Sears is a geezer store. I am a geezer. Draw your own conclusions.

i tend to think of macy's as midrange and these as, I dunno, someplace below that.

akm, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 01:03 (seventeen years ago)

i think of bradlees & the burlington coat factory as someplace below midrange, these are midrange in my hometown (although their isn't really any "upper range").

JC Penney's St. John's Bay line makes great heavyweight flannels and chamois and they're usually Buy-One-Get-One-Free!

RIP Detroit

RIP Woodward & Lothrop (aka Woodies)

The Woodies culture continues. About once a year, former employees gather to celebrate their experiences with Woodies. Woodies impacted its employees, not only professionally, but socially. While the former employees work in many other places and in many other careers, the influence of the Woodies employment experience provides a bond that transcends time.[citation needed]

I think it's JC Penny's where I get some quicksilver type shirts around xmas time. (or is it macys). I like billabong sometimes and volcom and hurley. They sell that stuff there.

I miss Jacobson's. The lunch restaurant for Ladies Who Shop and Lunch, the chandeliers, the obsequious staff, the stuff you couldn't get anywhere else in West Michigan. Jacobson's was our Bloomingdale's, and we loved it.

Fred Dalton Township (Laurel), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:28 (seventeen years ago)

Wiki!

Jacobson Stores Inc. (known as Jacobson's) was an upscale regional department store. Based in Jackson, Michigan, the chain thrived primarily in Michigan and Florida, but also had stores in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Kansas. Jacobson's focused on apparel, fine jewelry and home furnishings. Furniture sales were phased out in the late 80s through mid-90s. Jacobson's entered bankruptcy in early 2002 after 134 years of service.

For all 4 kids in my family, our first pairs of hard-soled shoes came from the children's dep of Jake's; apparently it was the only place my mom could find Buster Brown saddle shoes.

i voted for sears, ignoring the "for stylish wearables" instruction, because i loved their snack counter when i was little. nothing better than a cherry icee with some fresh popcorn in a paper sack.

lauren, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

Sears owns K-Mart, which means they own my favorite retail chain.

Abbott of the Trapezoid Monks (Abbott), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

I like Sears for being stuck in 1980. But the answer is JCPenney.

haha Abbott otm
