Should I mail this job application to Chicago from the UK or Austin?

I have a job application which must arrive in Chicago by Friday. Assuming I can find a post office at Gatwick then I can mail it Airsure from Gatwick in the U.K. tomorrow morning (Monday). I would say that if I do this it has a 50/50 chance of making it to Chicago by Friday. Or I can mail it from Austin on Tuesday. I have no idea how long USPS takes to move stuff around the continental U.S. If it's better to use UPS or FedEx or whatever, then I have no idea how I get my package in their system.

So what is my best option? Details very welcome if you vote Austin. You have ninety minutes to comply.

Mail from US.

Send via FedEx overnight once you get to the US. Kinkos/FedEx shops are relatively easy to find in any semi-urban area. It'll cost you about $12-$14 for overnight, but you can guarantee it'll get there next day. There might be a 2-day option that is cheaper too, but I've never had to do that.

Mail it from Austin and pay just a bit more to send it priority or FedEx it.

priority is probably not necessary, but pretty cheap so why not?

England. When we hire (for faculty positions), we're not very strict on when apps arrive. And mail from the UK seems important, despite our jaded cosmopolitan ways.

Hmm. Thanks for the details, jon, that's exactly what I need if I'm to mail it in the U.S. But Euler makes an interesting point. I guess if the deadline is Friday they wouldn't look at anything until Monday anyway.
