OBAMA THUGOCRACY WATCH!!11!

Dude still has two months before taking office, Concerned Citizens were already freaking out about the "OBAMA THUGOCRACY".

Hell, a month before his election, and dickholes were already writing shit in the National Review actually called The Coming Obama Thugocracy with paragraphs like

...Obama supporters who found the campuses congenial and Obama himself, who has chosen to live all his adult life in university communities, seem to find it entirely natural to suppress speech that they don't like and seem utterly oblivious to claims that this violates the letter and spirit of the First Amendment. In this campaign, we have seen the coming of the Obama thugocracy, suppressing free speech, and we may see its flourishing in the four or eight years ahead.

What I'm wondering if we'll see a series of permutations on the cryto-racist bullshit, or if it will pretty much just be one note for the entire term in office. Are they going to try to wrap this into some sorta weird "States Rights"-like obfuscation, or will they even put that much effort into it? Or will they just carp on about brigades of some odd hybrid Nazi Tupac college students?

Either way, going to be a long eight years...

Also, how much of this is kinda clueless racism, and how much is just full-on projection?

Brotherhood of Stealing Shit to Sell to Trader Caravans (kingfish), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

I'm kinda with Whiney here -- I think race operates in this accusation far less than the long-running conservative paranoia/love of feeling persecuted and oppressed by liberals. They've been complaining about liberal "thugs" since the 90s at least . . .

nabisco, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

i really love the right-wing argument that the dems are trying to clamp down on speech they don't like, which is just about the funniest bunch of bullshit that is continually run out as a talking point

omar little, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

well that t-shirt incident in the video actually was a violation of the 1st amendment (which has to do with people being free to express their political views without reprisal).

nelson algreen (get bent), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 18:32 (seventeen years ago)

generally speaking, i think that talking point is more of a strawman or a weird defense for--imo--horrible backass ideas and options that aren't actually being shut down, but rather spoken out against by the left in strong terms. it's kind of coming up a little bit with prop 8 in cali now, here and there, "oh the left wants everyone to express whatever they want except when it etc etc". this argument usually is filled with false equivalences.

omar little, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

and the Fairness Doctrine...

yelling fire in a crowded theater is not protected speech.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

and that's about the nicest looking "arrest" I've ever seen.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

this thread is basically going to be flamebait for concern trolls and I really, really wish you hadn't started it, kingfish, but because I am a big gushy liberal who believes in free speech I will just have to let it stand

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

So it'll be locked in about 3 minutes then?

Kerm, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

yelling fire in a crowded theater is not protected speech.

unless there was some provocative behavior not shown in the video, dude was just arrested for wearing a shirt with the names of his candidates.

nelson algreen (get bent), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:21 (seventeen years ago)

it was a nice-looking arrest, but they could have just said "ok kid, move along."

nelson algreen (get bent), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:23 (seventeen years ago)

i highly doubt that was why he was arrested

Because it's a snow machine (deej), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:24 (seventeen years ago)

well, shame on the philadelphia police for not knowing the law or how to do their job. wait, surely they do know those things!! it must be evidence of a conspiracy

kerm do you have the video of the skater kids and that fat baltimore cop

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:24 (seventeen years ago)

dude it's on youtube

Kerm, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

It looks like the guy was treated unfairly, but I don't that a youtube video with no before/after context is really evidence of anything by itself. Philadephia police probably aren't in on some pro-Obama conspiracy either, and if anything, they probably though the dude was causing a public disturbance, which usually isn't defensible with free speech.

I was in the local democrat election party hq on election night and I think the dude probably would have got a lot of "hah, sorry man" comments and not much else.

That t-shirt/bad cop video looks like a scene from Cloverfield. With the guy being deliberately provocotive standing in for the creature.

DavidM, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

that fella blatantly did something to wind everybody up apart from just wearing the t-shirt. funny how the video doesn't show any of events before the actual arrest, isn't it?

Welcome to Obama’s nation...
The “transformational” figure who will “change the world” is now in charge, and he’s on a mission. Emboldened by an overwhelming electoral victory and a near-supermajority in Congress, President-elect

Obama and his allies are preparing to implement his liberal, “post-American” agenda. Simply put, what President-elect Obama and the Pelosi-Reid Congress have in store has the potential to rapidly move America to the socialist Left.

1 million citizens resisting...

Who can stop the Obama agenda? Only an unprecedented idea-based Resistance from freedom-loving citizens can prevent the full implementation of Obama’s march to the Left. That’s why Grassfire.org is seeking to identify and mobilize grassroots citizens who will Join The Resistance— an alliance of patriotic, resilient and determined conservatives who will not forsake their principles. Our goal? One million citizens joining together by Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009.

The Resistance States:
As an American citizen, while I will show respect to President-elect Obama, I oppose the far-Left and socialistic elements that comprise the centerpiece of his agenda. I recognize that it will take a patriotic and resilient Citizen Resistance to block implementation of this agenda and I join with others who oppose these threats to our liberties.

Specifically, I Resist:
Socialistic wealth redistribution including any and all tax increases and big-government welfare programs.
Silencing conservatives through the Fairness Doctrine and other efforts that restrict free speech.
Open border anarchy including amnesty for illegal aliens and promotion of multi-nation “unions”.
Government-run health care that weakens our system and imposes more tax burdens on citizens.
Weakening of our military through rapid pullback from Iraq, defunding our troops and overall disarmament.
Social liberalism including radical pro-abortion agenda, the end of marriage and the homosexual agenda.
Liberal court activism that undermines faith, family and liberties while expanding government control.
Post-American globalism that diminishes our global role and threatens our national sovereignty.
Environmental extremism, the CO2 tax, undermining coal and nuclear, and bans on
exploration.

Simply complete this form...
Please check all that apply (important):
Secure borders, stop illegal immigration
Expose liberal media bias
Stop NAFTA, North Am. Union
Defend rights of the unborn
