I expected Dom to have started this.

The next time I use an ATM I'll think of him.

On The Buses is one of my fave sitcoms ever.

and one of the few sitcoms that actually had a few good films made out of it. Holiday On The Buses was awesome.

One of the ITV digital channels was showing all the episodes of On The Buses this summer and I watched every damn one. Was surprised that Stan left after 1 episode in the last series and his brother in law left the one before. I had no idea there was episodes without them.
Esp as Arthur appeared in all the films which were made after the series ended! (and him and Olive had a kid too)
Arthur Mullard on the toilet that blew up is one of my earliest memories of tv as a young child.
I really want to watch Holiday On The Buses now. I hope ITV show it as a tribute.

Never found OTB funny, I'm afraid.

But a good and undervalued actor; see his performance in The Best Pair Of Legs In The Business if you can find it.

lol, good work.

OTB was far from one of the all time greats. but Varney's acting effort wasn't bad when you consider he would have played thirtysomething slack bachelor Stan while well past 50 himself. And his boss was played by a bloke 20 years younger.

Fred Nerk, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 09:08 (seventeen years ago)

Yep. If Reg hadn't been half as good as he was, OTB wouldn't have any kind of history at all.

Mark G, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 09:21 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone remember the last series of OTB after Varney quit and Blakey moved in as lodger?

Didn't think so (see also Doctor At Sea, 1974; six weeks of seasick joke)

What a broad smile! It is like a delta! (Marcello Carlin), Wednesday, 19 November 2008 09:42 (seventeen years ago)

No, I don't.

I did see one OTB recently, they installed a toilet. That's it.

They all laffed like drains, but then the times, the times...

One of his great-nieces is a close friend of mine. RIP, Uncle Reg.

Back then 35 year olds looked 50, so it's not an enormous stretch.

cock++; (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 19 November 2008 10:16 (seventeen years ago)

I've only heard of that last season of OTB with Blakey as lodger!!

It's probably the only show of that ilk that didn't do a "Down Under" sequel as well (see: "Are You Being Served?...Down Under!", "Love Thy Neighbour in Australia", etc.).

"Anyone remember the last series of OTB after Varney quit and Blakey moved in as lodger?"

Yep, think so. 'Turgid' doesn't begin to describe it.

The old Cecily Courtneidge eps have been on YUKTV recently and I was amazed by how crappy the camera work looked, even by BBC 1969 on an oily rag standards - three shades of grey, dark, fuzzy. Like that old footage of Bradman.

Fred Nerk, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 10:35 (seventeen years ago)

I mentioned earlier than stan left in the last series
