Well, I booked my ticket today, I'm off to Bangkok (via Istanbul as I'm going on Turkish Airlines eep!) a week tomorrow at lunchtime, so I want to see you all before I go, shall we have a drink on either Thursday or Saturday?

Plus I need to hear "These are the days" by Lift to Experience and write 102 words about it before I go, is it worth buying?

I shall check back here tomorrow as my on-line time is limited now, but I reckon Thursday would be good, mind you I'll be out for most of the weekend too.

I am excited and nervous about the whole thing.

chris, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thursday's fine for me Chris - I've got Friday off, so might I recommend the SPANISH BAR!

Tom, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

a fine choice Tom. although I have the slight fear.

chris, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

not Constantinople?

The Original Queen G, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

thursday = a v gd plan.

toby, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Lift To Experiences album is great, I think. If you like MBV it's probably worth buying, if you can afford it. Otherwise download "These Are The Days".

It's a shame I may not see you while I'm over, depending on when you get back.

Ronan, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I love MBV so I may well buy it tomorrow. I come back on the 8th of July Ronan, hopefully you'll still be here? That may of course change but that's the date at the moment.

chris, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah yes, I should be. Though I'm having minor accomodation crises, I plan on staying for most of the summer and working for the man somewhere or other.

Ronan, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This is the most important thread on the whole board right now.

Tom, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

so, glasshouse stores?

toby, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't think I can make it, I need to go home and tidy up, then someone is going to come and EXAMINE my room and hopefully rent the bugger. Also I have no money. Have fun though!

Sarah, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ahh, it's my editor's leaving do this evening, but it's happening quite nearby so I'll pop in for a drink.

Anna, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I still very very much fancy a pint.

Tom, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm off to an awards bash tonight, but I'll try to make it along at the end of the evening.

Pete, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

christ is anyone planning to turn up? i'm on for it, anyway...

toby, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

eek, sorry, I won't be able to make it!

But, have a great time in Thailand in Chris!

j>e>l, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i will be there for a V&T or two

Alan T, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Try and keep me away.

Tom, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have a feeling that the soft murmuring of my guts right now will increase throughout the day to a loud shrieking.

Emma, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mine are like a tribe of howler monkeys. How did you go without for a month Emma?

Tom, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am just a stronger person than you are Tom. Deal with it.

Emma, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mine are like a whole possee of fishwives on a particularly bad day for gutting. But alas! I will not be able to make it.

RickyT, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

alas and alack for i cannot make it either!! but have a TOP TASTIC RIP ROARING SUPER DOOPER BRILL TIME!! and find an interweb cafe and check in and make us jealous by recounting your adventures! and see you in July!

katie, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hi kids, don't worry if you can't make it, I'll be checking back here whenever I get to a computer and finally putting brassica bleats to some use, i.e. writing up my travel diaries.

whoever is coming tonight see you later, all you others, when I get back.

I must say I'm getting bloody nervous about it all, I'm sure I've missed stuff, but.... the tickets arrived this morning and my passport is valid so, I should be ok with everything else.

chris, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Have a good time in Thailand Chris!

I too am hungover, it's a nightmare. Fucking wheat beer.......gaaaaah it was so cheap.

Ronan, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I need direction (s).

Jonnie, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

from Picadilly circus, go up the little street near burger king, this crosses brewer street, turn left at brewer street and carry on walking til you see the pub, et voila, we'll probly be downstairs again, and if we go on to the spanish bar you'll be glad you're on lates

chris, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i think that's turn right on to brewer street

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yes, Alan is right, and I am a fool. Why do I always get right and left mixed up, especially when Madchen yells instructions to me when driving around in GTA3?

chris, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

films for my pleasure on the flight: Ocean's Eleven, K-Pax and something called Newton's boys (anyone?) Thank goodness for that, I was half expecting modest tales of Turkish goatherders!

food looks ok too, thankgoodness, mind you, so long as they can furnish me with a steady strem of Bloody Marys I'll be fine.

chris, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Enjoy the sex tourism, Chris. ;-)

Nicole, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Beware in flight Bloody Marys as Pete ordered one on our flight to Sri Lanka and was given a plastic cup FULL of vodka and another one - the same size - full of tomato juice. Even he admitted this was an error on a long haul flight. I pretended to be a supermodel (albeit a short one) and drank water and juice only.

Emma, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

chris i am booked for tonite so good luck and blah blah

xx

mark s, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Two glases (plastics) and nothing to decant them into either!!! Almost did me in.

What time are people rocking up - cos I might be able to do a drink at 5:30. (Dinner is 7:15)

Pete, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Safe trip, chris.

The Newton Boys = flop Matthew McConaughey/Ethan Hawke/Skeet Ulrich period gangster (à la Bonnie & Clyde) movie. Richard Linklater's one foray into the Hollywood mainstream.

Jeff W, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Newton Boys is a dodgy westren with Matthew Mccoghney.

anthony, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm aiming for 6 Pete. I always get lost on my way to the Glasshouse but this time I am confident of my pub-finding abilities.

Tom, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'll try and come. I didn't realise who cbrassica was until now. I am thick. I need booze. No chance you did me that md, is there?

alix, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am aiming for 6 too. (Lixi I texted ya did it work)

Sarah, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

B-b-but Tom you are always half an hour late and I'd have to leave by 7. Well maybe, i've got a CD to return to cbrassica.

Pete, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not this time, I have a great excuse for leaving work early.

Tom, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I got your text but it made little sense. I texted back then switched my phone off. It's my practical nature.

alix, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Enjoy the sex tourism, Chris. ;-)

We expect a full report.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 2 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

SOa ny excitement after I left. I noticed no Spanish Bar antics this time (that is where I ended up - oh joy).

Pete, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You should have all come to King of the Boots, it wasn't that full at all. Although now I feel evily, vilely sick and generally wrong.

Anna, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh dear, the booze does dreadful things to me. I am going to knock it on the head for a week!!! Yes! I got really REALLY grumpy as we were leaving (I am very very sorry) and can only estimate that getting back on the Bitter drinking wagon turns me into even more of a curmudgeon than usual. Ahem, not that I am going to the pub for lunch or anything. Good to see everyone who turned up but I am SO GLAD I did not late nite drink.

Sarah, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

good luck chris and have a nice time

mark s, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

YES, all the best chris (sorry i didn't make it last night BTW). will you be checking in from time to time, or will that be too uncool for sex tourists?

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A strange thing was noticed in the pub last night. Chris' Thai phrase book falls open on the love and sex page. Hmmm.

"I'm sorry, that is not the custom in my country."

'I do not feel comfortable doing that, but I am happy to watch."

Anna, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

surely the key q is: what did tom buy in tower records? i managed to restrict myself to that nme punk special.

am very glad there was no late night boozing as i feel fine today (although i did nearly vom in the gym today, oops) but another pint would prob have tipped me into the abyss, i suspect.

toby, Friday, 3 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hello, sorry I didn't reply to all this sooner. thanmks to all who came it was a good night, and I'll see you all in July, well, some of you I'll see later but most of you, yes, July.

chris, Sunday, 5 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm here! it's hot, sweaty, smelly, dirty and noisy. So far I love it, but the jetlag\tiredness doesn't.

even the world's most annoying traveller cliche on the bus from the airport couldn't darken my mood.

chris, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wahey! Time to put the sex back in tourism.

Ronan, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So this cliche, then.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
