remy: my bf is a tintin fan, good at navigating amazon and speaks french, so give me some more info and i will get him to help you.

does it have to be a set or can it just be all the individual books?
what's your budget? and also check amazon.ca (it's in english but they'll have french books and the shipping will be heaps cheaper). find me on AIM, if you want more help.

Remy, I once bought the higgs a copy of a play she'd seen while living in Ireland.

Sadly, the printed version was in Gaelic.

That yellow one you linked to is a giant one-volume paperback, but sadly it gets bad customer reviews on fnac.com (big French chain selling books, music, consumer gadgets) saying the cartoons aren't in the original format. The reviews aren't very specific about the format problem but say it's on cheap paper, and it gets compared to two different telephone directories.

(have only rusty school French, but here goes: "I browsed this piece today in the shop and I'm really dismayed. This Tintin is a replica of the Yellow Pages from any point of view. The paper feels recycled, you can almost see through it, and the cover seems to be mistaken for the famous directory..." "...Tintin in phonebook format and bound all in one stretch? It's a bit like watching a cult TV series with the episodes jammed up against each other with no title sequences, on a tiny iPod")

Meanwhile, this boxed one fares a bit better, but a reviewer complains that the drawings have been shrunk so they're only just legible. I can't even tell if either are colour or not. Might still be ok, but it's expensive and possibly out of print, too!

Hope you find something. There's got to be some kind of great Francophone Tintin gift out there...

Remy, that boxed set is the Fr version of the UK and US ones -- we're just bringing ours out now. The books are bind-ups of 3 titles in 1, same as the hardcover bind-ups currently in circ. Pages are definitely shrunk but not illegible by any means. Still, if you want full-sized glory, you'll have to buy the paperback individuals, I think.
