They seem to have got it made. Judging by Google Maps Klovharun is a tiny bit of rock miles from anywhere. The house still exists. This is sad: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-26529309
"In 1964, Jansson and Tuulikki Pietila built a simple house on Klovharu, without running water or electricity, which they could escape to in the summer months, and work without interruption.
It was there in 1970 that Jansson began writing her final Moomin book, Moominvalley in November, a melancholy story reflecting the author's grief after the death of her mother. It features a new character, Toft, which Jansson based on herself. When Toft arrives at the usually busy Moominhouse, there's no-one there."

Which reminds me - if you Google Hildur Guðnadóttir, a tonne of publicity photos were taken in a studio that she uses. At first I thought it was her house, but it's actually one of those quasi-home studios along the lines of Hotel2Tango etc. Nonetheless it looks like a life goal:https://headphonecommute.com/app/uploads/2021/06/by-viktor3-1048x699.jpghttps://www.dv.is/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/1edbdeaac93c6aaa91618709f04271d36fd0-1024x658-1024x658.jpg
In fact she literally seems to live inside the Ikea catalogue, which makes me wonder if she is computer-generated as well:https://www.friendsoffriends.com/home-stories/string-theory-hildur-gudnadottir-reimagines-instruments-and-lets-the-robots-play/

strays a bit from the usual mien of this thread but we have an ilxor who seems to have figured out how to live imo
i will say that i hit news exhaustion about halfway through trump's first term and ever since i've been consuming less and less news. now i'm basically not consuming any news at all beyond catching downstream waves from people's insta stories (that i quickly skip if they're trump/politics) and finding myself inevitably clicking on politics threads here now and again. i quit twitter/x years ago. i never check news sites. i filter out posts from the local paper or local news orgs i see on fb. maybe it's related to the smaller amount of news i see now, but i just can't read anything from any "news institution" and not choke on the self-regard and the obvious drama bait pov. nytimes copy is basically unreadable to me now. i saw some sponsored post facebook showed me from ap news the other day that was something like "it's possible to not have a purpose in your life and still be happy :)" and was like jesus christ i don't miss this kind of bullshit.so yeah, i have absolutely no regrets. i feel like as a college educated man i was fed this idea that to not look at news was some kind of grave sin. i see that idea repeated from friends now and internally i'm just like "what absolute horseshit". it's just a total lie. i'm so much happier focused on things that actually matter. my life in front of me and the people irl i encounter daily. the present moment and the time and space that i occupy. i've seen enough of the world to know that empires run on blood and tragedy occurs every day. repeating that knowledge just doesn't serve me at all anymore. obviously different people have different tolerance levels when it comes to the news but i want to give a big smile and sparkling expression to anyone who may be thinking "do i really need to look at the washington post any more?" no. no, you don't. and it's very likely you'll be happier for it. there is a lot out there that is actually a good thing and virtuous to be ignorant of, to avoid completely, imho. it might have been quite different before the internet but those old adages about "staying informed" just don't track any more afaict.― map, Wednesday, February 4, 2026 5:01 PM (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink
