racist (J0rdan S.), Friday, 28 November 2008 08:06 (seventeen years ago)

Gloomy grey guy doesn not know how to properly do this knot - too tight, hence too long. I usually sport a black cheche

baaderonixx, Friday, 28 November 2008 08:55 (seventeen years ago)

wind and wtfering (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 28 November 2008 10:02 (seventeen years ago)

They are extremely boring to make.I'm currently making a Noro striped scarf. (Faux rib, black and other is variegated.) The pic doesn't do it justice though. I'm not that keen on the yarn even though everyone (incl non-knitters RAVE about the colours.

Hey guys what's going on in this thread?

Part 25 in our long running documentary about how the humble scarf is as confusing to the American as shooting several of your classmates dead is to the Brit

Glans Christian Christian christian Christian Andersen (MPx4A), Friday, 28 November 2008 14:14 (seventeen years ago)

For some reason scarves get a bad rap in America. I'm not sure why. I remember a commercial a few years back had Tony Hawk, the symbol of radical masculinity in the new millennium, skateboarding into a cafe to tell everyone about Dell computers. At the end he told some pasty, wan artsy looking guy wearing a scarf sitting at a MacBook-look laptop (the competition) and said "yo man, ditch the scarf."

burt_stanton, Friday, 28 November 2008 21:15 (seventeen years ago)

Which is reasonable, as why on earth wear a scarf indoors? Tony Hawks should skate into more buildings and tell people to remove hats, waders, bodywarmers etc

Matt, Saturday, 29 November 2008 00:14 (seventeen years ago)

as a scarf-wearer who's practical as well as fashionable, I disapprove of the predominant loose scarf look of the past few years. It's supposed to keep your neck warm, and it's not going to do that when your neck's completely exposed! Grey guy there knows what he's doing, more or less.

Merdeyeux, Saturday, 29 November 2008 00:21 (seventeen years ago)

Isn't that black one a keffiyeh? Douchebag alert.

My brother gives me a scarf every year for Christmas, so I now have a drawer full of nice, warm scarves that are completely fucking useless where I live.

as why on earth wear a scarf indoors?

When it's f*cking cold indoors, for example at my work (small shop with no heating, door always opening/closing. It gets pretty nasty over the winter).

P.S. scarves are great, of the few pieces of clothing I'm happy to have a wee collection of.

krakow, Saturday, 29 November 2008 08:22 (seventeen years ago)

*one of the few pieces...

krakow, Saturday, 29 November 2008 08:23 (seventeen years ago)

scarves make great accessories! all my cheap jewelry falls apart, but i can always count on a scarf to liven up my outfits.

Did anyone else notice that the person who started this thread is the same one who started the "why are sweaters so fagotty" thread? (or whatever it's called.)

"Why do homosexuals keep talking about my sweater?"

fiscal liberal (kenan), Saturday, 29 November 2008 08:39 (seventeen years ago)

Anyway the answer to the poll is whatever scarf you like, and yeah it's stupid to wear a scarf if your neck is not cold, but we've talked about this before, and some people live in places where necks get cold, so you really ought to wear a scarf if you're in one of those places, because your mother would want you to.

I have a favorite scarf. I will model it for you.

I'm thinking of going back to the "villager or yore" look and just wearing a giant square of fabric around my shoulders: shawl, market bag, baby sling, blanket if you have to sleep somewhere unexpected, will protect hair-do in a light shower, etc. It seems v sensible.

Er make that "villager of yore".

One Community Service Mummy, hold the Straightedge Merman (Laurel), Monday, 1 December 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

I have purchased hella scarves since the last thread about them. My girlfriend bought be a dark green plaid cashmere thing for my birthday.

It seems like everybody I see has their scarf tied like Kenan upthead. I can't figure out how to do that and just drape it over the back of my neck. What's the secret?

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 1 December 2008 15:25 (seventeen years ago)

Kenan appears to have doubled the scarf over and put one end through the gap

Glans Christian Christian christian Christian Andersen (MPx4A), Monday, 1 December 2008 15:30 (seventeen years ago)

my favourite scarf is a Slavia Prague scarf I swapped with a Czech infant in a gesture of brotherhood

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 1 December 2008 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

full disclosure: my current scarf is a nice grey/red plaid cashmere job. warm and comfortable, even if it has that dead poets society look.
