We often pour scorn on a number of things on ILX, but we usually overstate things. However, with all the honesty and integrity in the world, fuck Wispa and fuck anyone who likes Wispas

The bog standard Wispa is great despite having become the David Hasselhoff of chocolate bars or whatever.

Wispa Gold was an abomination though.

Chopper Aristotle (Matt DC), Friday, 28 November 2008 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

I like Wispas. Facebook fan pages about chocolate bars can fuck right off though. Can't people like things without forming groups in which to agree with each other.

Facebook fucking baffles me sometimes, e.g. Displaying 1 - 10 out of over 500 group results for: tomatoes

slag move (onimo), Friday, 28 November 2008 15:17 (seventeen years ago)

Wispas were strikingly average. I can't believe anyone actually cared enough to be persuaded they wanted them back. Cadburys are no doubt congratulating themselves on a grass-roots ad campaign (what's the posh term for this?) that worked well, though.

The whole thing seems very smug. Fuck off with your Wispas, Cadburys.
And don't bring back Wham bars or that horrible space-dust that crackles in your mouth either. They were shit too.

hobart paving, Friday, 28 November 2008 15:19 (seventeen years ago)

Wham Bars and Space Dust never went away.

The Wispa campaign is up there with "SAVE CAMDEN MARKET!!!" and "LOL BORIS!! YUO LEGERND!!"

James Mitchell, Friday, 28 November 2008 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

Especially since the Wispa has been back for ages. It's a bit like campaigning for Nelson Mandela's release well into the 90s.

The higher you build your barriers
The taller I become
The farther you take my rights away
The faster I will run
You can deny me
You can decide to turn your face away
No matter, cos there's....

Something inside so strong
I know that I can make it
Tho' you're doing me wrong, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh something inside so strong

The more you refuse to hear my voice
The louder I will sing
You hide behind walls of Jericho
Your lies will come tumbling
Deny my place in time
You squander wealth that's mine
My light will shine so brightly
It will blind you
Cos there's......

Something inside so strong
I know that I can make it
Tho' you're doing me wrong, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh something inside so strong

Brothers and sisters
When they insist we're just not good enough
When we know better
Just look 'em in the eyes and say
I'm gonna do it anyway
I'm gonna do it anyway

Something inside so strong
And I know that I can make it
Tho' you're doing me wrong, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh something inside so strong

Brothers and sisters
When they insist we're just good not enough
When we know better
Just look 'em in the eyes and say
I'm gonna do it anyway
I'm gonna do it anyway
I'm gonna do it anyway
I'm gonna do it anyway

Because there's something inside so strong
And I know that I can make it
Tho' you're doing me, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh something inside so strong

Because there's something inside so strong
And I know that I can make it
Tho' you're doing me, so wrong

Oh no, something inside so strong

All this talk of Wispas... I would actually really like one now. DOM = CADBURY'S SHILL.

caek, Friday, 28 November 2008 16:30 (seventeen years ago)

Dom, yesterday:

caek, Friday, 28 November 2008 16:31 (seventeen years ago)

I've had carraghmacs in Dublin, definitely. You don't see them around much in London or Dublin these days. The old Carraghmac expressway no longer blows its whistle in my neck of the woods. Pour one out. Pour one out having got a grown up to aid you with the melting.

Ronan, Friday, 28 November 2008 16:31 (seventeen years ago)

will they get griffinmel back to do the adverts though?

darraghmac, Friday, 28 November 2008 16:35 (seventeen years ago)

I just went out and bought a Wispa. This must have been what betraying the Stasi felt like.

Chopper Aristotle (Matt DC), Friday, 28 November 2008 16:40 (seventeen years ago)

can we have a thread here about wine gums too? some people like wine gums

o_O (ken c), Friday, 28 November 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

and i want to fuck them

o_O (ken c), Friday, 28 November 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

wine gums are perfectly ok taken in isolation, but in a world where fruit pastilles exist, the yeah fuck wine gums.

darraghmac, Friday, 28 November 2008 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

Wine gums OTM! Also: Krunchy & Lionbar. Britishes make the best candy bars.

The Most Photographed Barn on the Internet (Pillbox), Friday, 28 November 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

If by "fruit pastilles," you mean the Rountree's in the yellow sleeve (tough, chewy & no sugar coating), you are very much correct.

The Most Photographed Barn on the Internet (Pillbox), Friday, 28 November 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

will they get griffinmel back to do the adverts though?

I'd love it if it was the new Angry Griff...

AG: "Fucking Wispas!!! I fucking hate them!!! Aaarrrrgrghrgrhrgh!!!"
MS: "I haven't done anything decent since 'Colin's Sandwich', and even that was a bit suspect."
AG: "I don't care!!! I don't care!!! Shut up or I'll shove this chocolate bar up your arse!!! As if I don't have enough to do!!! Climb a mountain!!! Restore an old building!!! Drive my Vauxhall into some builders!!!"

snoball, Friday, 28 November 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

Wispa was always rubbish.

I don't mind banal facebook groups or becoming a fan of things. It's inconsequential. I rather enjoy being a fan of pens, and letting the world know.

Autobot Lover (jel --), Friday, 28 November 2008 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

wispas are ok i guess

go read a blog you illiterate son of a bitch (internet person), Friday, 28 November 2008 22:29 (seventeen years ago)

I bought one the other week, I don't know why I bought it. It was mildly uinpleasant, the chocolate was rather waxy in texture.

They're a total rip-off, just like aero. They froth the chocolate up with air, then set it, and people wind up buying less chocolate for the same amount of money. Good scam!

Pashmina, Friday, 28 November 2008 22:36 (seventeen years ago)

I have to weigh in on the Fruit Pastilles / Fruit Gums / Wine Gums argument - all pale to insignificance in the presence of Pascal's Bon-Bons.

snoball, Friday, 28 November 2008 22:55 (seventeen years ago)

Wispa's were always distinctly average, merely a compressed aero. Now whilst I respect Pash's view, perhaps the air-bubbles make a more complete chocolate experience, providing as they do a textural contrast? Therefore making the consumer pay the same for less money = making the consumer pay the same for an overall more interesting bar experience= oh christ I'm talking about chocolate on the internet Clubs aren't what they used to be etc etc there is no question but any answer other than crunchie is wrong though admittedly I haven't actually bought a fucking chocolate bar in about eight years my only actual chocolate exposure comes after hallowe'en when the leftovers from the bucket of tiny tiny chocolate bars are munched over a matter of days with no small measure of regret.

Fuse, incidentally, was always an abomination. As was Time Out. I remain predisposed to liking Topics but I dunno, I can't imagine actually buying a chocolate bar. Some chocolate, yes. A chocolate bar, no.

Matt, Friday, 28 November 2008 23:52 (seventeen years ago)

Picnics

people, people... WINE PASTILLES.

slap bass: the ungentle art (stevie), Sunday, 30 November 2008 13:51 (seventeen years ago)

I don't mind a chocolate bar. Why would'nt I? I like Topics but the Topic is quite a short bar and quite pricey comparitively. Picnics I can go with. Not too sweet or gooey and a six-pack is only 99p.
Wispas... not fussed. Of all the bars to bring back though. Bring back the Texan bar if anything. Or at least Cabanas.
