Surmounter I think you are my polar opposite in terms of beverage preferences.

ok but i LOVE eggnog

Whisky Mac obviously. Equal parts cheap whisky and ginger wine. Automatic mood improver and warmth giver. The sugar will give you energy and the alcohol alcohol.

Manhattan is nice. It looks a bit Christmas-y.

how do you make your eggnog, people?

Maria, Sunday, 30 November 2008 19:23 (seventeen years ago)

we had champagne w/ creme de cassis the other night - it was very festive, i thought!

tehresa you were having a kir royale! Great drink. Classic champagne cocktails (champagne, sugar cube, bitters, lemon twist) are always festive at the holidays.

Good eggnog recipe:

Maria, Sunday, 30 November 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

champagne cocktails have always been my favorite festive thing, actually, but i never know hot to make them/where i can order them

This is a cocktail that I had at a fancy pants snotty cocktail place and it is delicious and feels appropriately decadent for holiday time:

2 oz Jameson's or Powers or similar
1 oz cream
1 oz sugar syrup (it's got to be Turbinado or Demerara or one of them kinds of sugar)
~ 1/2 oz (or to taste) of some really super duper smokey single malt (me and the fancy pants snotty cocktail place favor Ardbeg 10)
8-15 drops of orange flower water OR you can use like 1-3 drops of orange extract

Stir or shake and serve over ice.

Party tonight will have a vat of mulled wine (kept warm in the slow cooker), a vat of hot chocolate with available mix-ins of rum, kahlua, peppermint schnapps, irish cream, and/or brandy, and soy eggnog for the non-dairy non-alcohol contingent (though welcome to the mix-ins as well).
