Which is more annoying: arguing about what people find funny or arguing about what people find sexy?

basically the 30 rock thread today vs. the fitness chicks thread yesterday

at least fitness chix argument got dudes to post hot girls whereas arguing about funny never leads to anything funny happening

generally, arguing about what is funny is more important, hence sexy is more pointless and thus annoying

although the latter argument tends to produce more examples of "sexy" than the former does of "funny" so i dunno

I only participated one of these so I'm voting for that one.

Actually, I could talk about what is sexy (i.e. not Potter's nipples) all the doo-dah day, while 90% of humour leaves me mystified, so, err, I guess humour is worse.

The fitness chix were kind of mesmerizing until I remember I was at work and there was basically softcore porn on my screen.

Technically the 30 Rock thread contains no arguing about what people find funny, or whether they find it funny. It contains arguing about how they describe, identify, and categorize the things they find funny/unfunny. Mostly it contains arguing about whether a joke was out of character or not, which is a question totally unrelated to its funniness.

Nope, I've just decided - arguing about ILX0rs is the most annoying thing ever.

wow, this thread took so few posts to take me from "huh i should take a look at these two threads maybe" to "i am never opening either of those threads ever".

I thought the 30 Rock "argument" was interesting. It led me to some insights about different kinds of comedy and refined my sense of what I liked.

I have only looked at one, and it consisted of the same shit every ILX thread consists of -- someone makes an innocuous but oddly untrue statement, everyone else points out that they disagree, long discussion ensues over basic points of fact and interpretation and devolves into heated exchange over inessential points like the relative jokes-per-minute rates of two different sitcoms. I think I learned something from that one, actually.

and now we have a collective ilx coffee crash.

n/a I've seen that on SNL threads and in limited quantities elsewhere but for the most part people here tend to be the types who rotate the argument to being not about "is this funny" but detailed and effectively time-killing critical analysis of how something works, what its essential qualities are, how it compares to similar things, etc.

I don't know if that's better or worse than if we all just sat around listing what we liked and pasting "u r all gae" at the end

Arguing about what people find sexy is so pointless it tends to consist of each party stating an opinion, followed by mutual disinterest in one another's opinion. This is futile, but not especially annoying.

Arguing about what people find funny is equally futile, but tends to involve a variety of tendentious opinions, theories and long-winded expostulations, carried on at length in a fog of mutual incomprehension and growing irritation. Very annoying.

They key to the fitness chicks thread is to just scroll until you see one you like, pause, go "m--yup", then keep scrolling.

I've never found a key to anything like, say, the Adam Carolla thread. Mostly shitfests, no matter which side I'm on. (Er, as a lurker, usually)
