Haven't heard Asia, Men At Work, J. Geils, or Foreigner albums; just know the singles. 1982 was the last gasp of a certain kind of late seventies/early eighties AOR mullet madness before MTV sent makeup and octagonal drums across the Atlantic.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 8 December 2008 20:17 (seventeen years ago)

For me it's the Hip-Hop finds drum machine thing that creates the 80s boom, which germinated in the 2nd half of 82 and fully bloomed in 83

Not to say I wasn't aware of Human League or whatever...it all just lines up in my memory.

Then again, we didn't have MTV in 1982.

i could justify cougar or j.geils, but i'ma go go-go's. even beyond the singles it's got "can't stop the world," "tonite," "this town," "lust to love," "automatic"... classic.

Geir will vote for his beloved Tug of War.

Things really were shit back then! It's quite interesting, I thought things were shit now, but obviously not.

But yeah, Cougs.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

(poll might pick up a couple last-minute votes if it got shuttled over to ilm...)

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 00:28 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for BATB too. "Tonite," "Lust To Love," and "Skidmarks On My Heart" are enough.

Men At Work!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 01:31 (seventeen years ago)

yeah - remove the kitchy-eighties-memory aspect of the videos 'n' all and you're left with some incredibly solid songwriting I think.

J0hn D., Wednesday, 17 December 2008 03:20 (seventeen years ago)

I like the singles on the next one: "It's A Mistake" and "Overload."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 03:38 (seventeen years ago)

twelve years pass...

What does the post-disco era look like?/
