Ive been watching Discovery Project Earth on discovery channel's new channel called planet green.
Anyways, this tv channels mentions all these CRAZY ideas of how to rid our dependence on oil and combat global warming.
For instance there is a commercial that mentions wrapping glaciers in tin foil so they wont melt so fast...

What do you think is the best "harebrained" idea to combat global warming and rid our dependence on oil? So far I like the one with the giant lens (solar panel?) in space that sends a microwave beam down to earth that supposedly can power a huge amount; and I like the idea of using pumps in the ocean to bring nutrient rich water from the bottom of the ocean to the top - creating plankton growth, and the plankton eats CO2 emissions and dies and sinks to the bottom of the ocean...

I think these ideas could work pretty well

There's the idea in Kim Stanley Robinson's most recent books where they dump vast amounts of salt into the Atlantic to keep the Gulf Stream going and avert a new ice age.
