Libraries of Europe have got together to create a portal for searching & accessing millions + millions of works of various types within youknow teh cultural heritage. It was actually launched on November 20, but MAD INTEREST made it go RIGHT DOWN again -- apparently, they aim to be up "in the course of January".

Making thread because

i) it is great thing! Also this is a place to report on excellent FINDS etc;
ii) somehow I find it "lol internets" heartening that so major projects are still misdimensioned so gravely;
iii) I actually managed to get in a couple of time on original launch date: they had this fancy type of WWW2.0(?) carousel thing at the bottom showing most searched-for/looked-up things -- they were (a) the MONA LISA, (b) MEIN KAMPF and (c) the famous (NSFW!) painting THE ORIGIN OF THE WORLD by Gustave Courbet (1819-1877). LOL internets again!
