Bottle Rocket

If I'm not mistaken this is the only Wes Anderson film that hasn't gotten its own thread yet. So how about it?

Great Movie. Made right here in my home town. I,ve seen it twice, but I could probably watch it again.

"Oh you must be in the army" "Naw, I just got a short haircut."

It was on Film Four recently but I missed it. There, that's not very interesting, is it? I don't think it ever got a theatrical release in this country. Edna W. is a big fan. On Sunday she was expounding important theses on the baroque style of The Royal Tenenbaums and how it was Wes Anderson's Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant. I said hmm and then steered the conversation around to her being a paedophile agai

I'd have been dead impressed, probably, if I'd seen it before his others - I only saw it on Film Four. It doesn't stand up terribly well against Rushmore or Tenenbaums, I thought.

Very sweet-natured film, which I think is one of Wes Anderson's more distinctive traits. I love "Bottle Rocket."

Team Rocket vs Bottle Rocket!

Thanks to the rather fabulous nature of in-flight entertainment on Virgin Atlantic, I recently got to see Bottle Rocket on the way to DC and The Royal Tenenbaums on the way back. I preferred the former. But then, it was a smoother flight with better food.

Just rented it about two weeks ago after seeing the excellent Royal Tenenbaums. It's not quite as good as Rushmore or RT, but it has a lot of charm. It has the least plot of three movies also, good or bad.

seven years pass...

Was watching this again last night. Robert Musgrave was so great as Bob.

"Anthony, I have got to talk to you! Look, I am sorry about this, this seems like a nice soiree, but I have got a family situation. I don't care what you think. I dont care! Tengo una situación con mi familia!"

Abe Henry: I don't mean to offend you, Bob. But your brother's a cocksucker. Does that offend you?
Bob: No, that didn't offend me.
Abe Henry: Good.

Dignan: Bob Mapplethorpe, potential get-away driver: go!
Bob: Well, I think there's a real air of mystery about me.
Dignan: Don't complicate it. Your number one strength is you have a car you can provide. Sell yourself! Start over. Ready, go!
Bob: Okay, alright. I'm a risk taker! I'm growin' an entire crop of marijuana plants in my parents back yard! I think that shows...
Dignan: Wait, you're growing an entire crop of marijuana in your back yard?
Bob: Dignan, look. I'm just not very good at this selling-yourself stuff, okay? So, I'm just gonna tell you the truth. I really wanna be a part of this team. And I'm the only one with a car.
Dignan: That's good. That's good. 'Cause that hits me right here.

one year passes...

I don't get this film. I rented it and watched it and it was remarkably mediocre. It never caught fire at all.

It does have one genuinely really funny bit where the Kumar fellow seems not to know what he's doing or who other people are, late in their attempted heist.

I am quite intrigued by the exchange between N. and Edna W above. I'm not sure what the latter meant about TRT = Fold Your Hands, Child. Oh, except that they have 'baroque style'.

kind of amazing how Owen has made Dignan into a career. Except now he's playing Dignan Knows Best.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 27 February 2011 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

Bob: Wha - why is there tape on your nose?
Dignan: Exactly!
