RIP. But I've yet to read an obit that mentions his homosexuality. Even Kenneth Anger managed to send up a (hilarious) flare about in Hollywood Babylon II, one of the few light-hearted moments in that nasty text.

when I was younger I confused him for Walter Pidgeon. Had no idea he was queer; seems like most male MGM stars were.

Mr. Johnson had lived at Tappan Zee Manor, an assisted living facility, for the last seven years. Before that he lived at 405 East 54th Street in Manhattan.
