Please Note: The Two Towers is the title of the JRR Tolkien book originally published in 1954, the second book of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The title was thus established some 47 years prior to the attacks on the World Trade Center towers, and there is no evidence to suggest that Peter Jackson meant anything by continuing the same title other than faithfulness to the beloved Tolkien classics. Furthermore, the two distant, opposing towers in the Tolkien classic have very little if anything in common with the two matching towers of the World Trade Center. — PetitionOnline.com

To: Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema Those of us who have seen The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring know what an amazing director Peter Jackson is. When I learned that there apparently was to be a sequel, I was overjoyed. However, Peter Jackson has decided to tastelessly name the sequel "The Two Towers". The title is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center. In this post-September 11 world, it is unforgiveable that this should be allowed to happen. The idea is both offensive and morally repugnant. Hopefully, when Peter Jackson and, more importantly, New Line Cinema see the number of signatures on this petition, the title will be changed to something a little more sensitive.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Maybe it's the beer talking, but that's bullshit.

Joke. Treat it as the lameness it is. The title has never been changed and never will be. Tolkien himself thought it was a bit of a compromise choice and wasn't too fond it, but given how the book had to be split up into three parts to get published, he was stuck with it.

The greater problem is the name of the last book, which of course gives away the ending to a large extent. The original proposed title was The War of the Ring, which makes much more sense.

Right. People are stupid. In fact, people are worse than stupid. If they knew they were stupid, things would be fine, but no. They make petitions. Petitions like this. They get actually angry it. I'm,at a loss. I can only console myself with the fact that someone may get angry enough at the title "The Two Towers" that they might explode.

He should have called it "THE ONE WITH GOLLUM AND THE ENTS BUT NO WAMPIRES", and avoided this whole mess.

For those getting incensed: Read the signatures. Pure unadulterated comedy.

one year passes...
What do you mean, PJ had DECIDED to name the film The Two Towers?? If you haven't noticed, the second installment of LOTR was named The Two Towers since it was published IN THE 60s! The director did not "TASTELESSLY NAME" it The Two Towers, J.R.R. Tolkien did, and he died a LONG time ago.
And BTW, TTT isn't a sequel... LOTR is a trilogy, so TTT is the second installment...
