i had telewest until i had to cancel the service and they were fine. are you serious that they don't do e5? they did n4 and thats round the corner

gareth, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There is a big Telewest map of the country and E5 is covered in dragons and otherkin.

Mark I saw an advert last week for PIP EX Solo broadband ADSL Internet service

Pipex are a well established ISP company.

only £23.99 per month inc vat.

plus they are offering free set up conection. But recommend you buy a super fast modem and Micro-filter

The only other equipment you need is a Micro-filter and a sparkling new DSL modem both of which are available from PIPEX at very competitive prices.

For just £99.95 + VAT and P&P, surfing the Internet becomes a whole new experience. In fact, this external ADSL modem allows speeds up to 200 times faster than traditional modems (depending on the DSL service chosen).

Compared to BT

BTOpenworld

[This compares to BTOpenworld for 29.99 per month Special introductory offer: Simply order Home 500 Plug & Go before 31st May 2002 and you'll get £65.00 off your set up costs. This means that you only have to pay for your Broadband equipment pack (modem and two filters) at £85.00. ]

Another option:

Cheapest in the UK at the mo without changing to a non BT phone connection? Freedom to Surf £22.50 per month.

I Don't know the reputation of this company.

DJ Martian, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

[correction that Pipex price is £23.44 per month]

DJ Martian, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

lets feel sacred

mike hanle y, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nathalie, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that is one long list there, Mark !

That Pipex deal, PIPEX Xtreme Solo stills look good cost wise per month £23.44 per month and they are a well established and reliable company.

DJ Martian, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A co-worker had immense and terrible problems with Pipex ADSL. Another co-worker swears by Nildram.

RickyT, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(yeah i only want BAD experiences => otherwise to be honest there's not that much to choose, except telewest don't do my area)

mark s, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The people who used to live in our house used Homechoice. But when I found this out I was also told they were rubbish.

Tom, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"i only want BAD experiences" = i only want YOUR bad experiences

mark s, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

zen adsl is good, have to buy your own equipment, they give static IP adresses, so you can map your domain onto your computer if you so desire. its £25 a month, they sell equipment although dabs and others sell it cheaper. It was only tricky to set up because I missread an l for a 1 on my login name. No minion even had to come round.

Ed, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry that wasn't a bad experience, I picked them because they told me they'd won an award for best broadband or summink.

Ed, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
anyone on freedom2surf?

charltonlido (gareth), Saturday, 5 February 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

anyone especially happy w/ an ISP?

obviously people want cheap and unlimited* and highspeed

anyone got a good combo?

RJG, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

neither do I

RJG, Thursday, 26 July 2007 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

so BUMP please

r|t|c, Friday, 27 July 2007 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

probly got it down to

bt ("safe option" hah)

bulldog (16meg and supposedly still unlimited, v probly too good to be true but who knows)

freedom2surf (same offer but cheaper than zen, but i'm reading about p2p throttling tho??)

zen (everyone says zen tho innit)

r|t|c, Friday, 27 July 2007 11:45 (eighteen years ago)

anyone on bethere interweb? looks tasty

r|t|c, Friday, 27 July 2007 11:57 (eighteen years ago)

i use f2s, yes they throttle p2p but only public trackers it seems, oink etc work ok.
yeh i second the bethere enquiry, anyone tried that yet?

zappi, Friday, 27 July 2007 12:03 (eighteen years ago)

Bulldog is shite shite shite don't go with them. I was with them for about four months during which time they were totally unable to give me a connection and when I cancelled it they debited £250 from my account as a fee. Wankers.

Freedom2Surf = great at first but the service got worse and worse over my time with them and yes the P2P throttling thing is hugely annoying and basically made Soulseek and Bittorrent unusable.

Zen - everyone says they're good.

I'm using Be these days and they are generally speaking wonderful. Fastest connection I've had and next to no downtime. No bandwidth cap as well and their customer service was fine on the one occasion I had to use it (ie when setting it up).

Matt DC, Saturday, 28 July 2007 11:05 (eighteen years ago)

Oh Bethere are fine with P2P as well. Here's hoping they don't get acquired by Tiscali or Virgin and made shite as well.

Matt DC, Saturday, 28 July 2007 11:07 (eighteen years ago)

is virgin cable broadband shite? i need to leave BT, my connection has been ridiculously throttled since BT vision started.

jed_, Saturday, 28 July 2007 11:11 (eighteen years ago)

what's the contract term w/ bethere? can't seem to see it. it's month by month w/ zen but they want £50 "activation" and bethere offer a wireless router w/ etc

RJG, Saturday, 28 July 2007 11:37 (eighteen years ago)

ah three months w/ the unlimited one

RJG, Saturday, 28 July 2007 11:41 (eighteen years ago)

i've been with BT since time immemorial (er, 2002 or so) and the connection has been perfect (he says, touching wood).

they're categorically not the cheapest. and the customer service is not great. oh, and the new (unnecessary) "home hub" they sent me (a rebuilt alcatel speedtouch, from what i can work out) has a dodgy ethernet port.

BUT i have never lost so much as a second's connectivity since i signed up, and that's what matters to me the most.

grimly fiendish, Saturday, 28 July 2007 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

Okay, now who's best? Virgin are telling me we're unserviceable, even though we live in the town centre :-(

dog latin, Thursday, 9 July 2009 09:03 (sixteen years ago)

two years pass...

in a mild case of serendipity, i've switched mobile providers on the same day that my broadband contract with O2 has run out.

am i right in thinking that Be is still the best?

havent ever used any other provider so i can't compare but no complaints with be wherever i've been

(besides the excruciating innocent smoothies style chummy patter of course)

"oopsy! looks like you havent paid your bill!"
