Focus Group Help And Question

I can find 26 out of 30 MP3s on the Focus Group shortlist (to be published in full and sent out soon!) The ones I can't find are:

- 'N Sync - Girlfriend (the Neptunes mix if it's a different one)

- The Hives - Hate To Say I Told You So

- Tiga And Zyntherius - Sunglasses At Night

- X-Press 2 - Lazy

Has anyone got any of these and can put them in a non-FTP restricted place where I can get them? (The N'Sync is least-needed as I can't really see a reason for it being there but several people mentioned it.) I need them by Thursday really!

The other question is - how many London people would be interested in doing a live focus group later in the month? We've had live focus groups before but generally they've just been me and my usual drinking mates. However this time the demand seems to be there to do one for internet people too - it would involve coming round to our house, probably on a Sunday afternoon towards the end of May. Any takers?

I play my joker on this new answer.

Tom, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Or someone else's house.

What the live FG involves, for ppl who don't know - we sit around, a song is played, we joke and chat and write down comments on the song. Each person reads their comments out to the larffter or derision of others. Booze flows liberally throughout.

Tom, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

tom, i'll hit AG today and see what i can come up with. worse comes to worst, i'll mail em to you. is there a thread where we request a focus groop ballot, or no?

jess, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DONT MAIL THEM TO ME! - I can't get home e-mail and work wont let me have MP3s.

Ballots will be mailed out and the shortlist published when I get a connection back.

Tom, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Did my 102BT entry banish me from further inclusion in FT journalism?

(Wait until you see my reply)

Graham, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No all the usual suspects are going to get ballot invitations, but that'll be a bit later.

Tom, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll have to think about the live focus group thing. Count me as a maybe.

jel --, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If you need the Grrlfriend version that's on the record, I can upload it on my ftp server. Just email me. I can probably get ahold of the rest and upload'em there as well. Email me if you haven't found'em and my solut... Oh blablaba you know what I mean.

nathalie, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have the hives song, do you want me to filepile it for you? or if you come and watch the footy in the pub with me tomorrow (hint ;)) i can bring it innit.

CarsmileSteve, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Footy is dependent on Isabel. Filepile hooray!

I can't do FTP or Email sorry Nath. Has to be web-based.

How different is the Futurism T&Z from the single mix?

Tom, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't help with MP3s Tom, but if you really want middle-aged strangers in your house, I'll be up for it if otherwise free. It's not far from what I did last Sunday with Andrew L and his flatmate anyway. Satie, Daphne & Celeste, a comp from ATP, the Charts on the radio and Mingus were among those played. If I say I liked Daphne & Celeste best, does that disqualify me?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha. That garners you an automatic invite.

Ally C, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom, any reason to have a drink AND chat about music is aces with me. I'll definitely come along.....

Nichole Graham, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have Lazy on MP3 (Duh.) that's if noone else offered. What do I need to do?

Ronan, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe see if Mr. Popshots could host the mp3s since he used to have space for the listening chamber.

bnw, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, the current line-up of tracks I need is:

Shakira - Wherever, Whenever (I may have this at home but I'm not sure)

Enrique Inglesias - Hero (I have a 'dancey' mix of this)

Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Through This (I have a mix but not the radio edit)

J Lo/Ja Rule - Aint It Funny (I have a song called Aint It Funny but it's not the right one)

The Hives - Hate To Say I Told You So (still no sign)

N'Sync - Girlfriend (still no sign)

X-Press 2 - Lazy (still no sign)

If anyone has these and the ability to post them to FilePile then email me at the address below (with MYLASTNAME switched for my last name (Ewing)) and I'll send you the login and password! Thanks!

Tom, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have Lazy but have no idea how to use filepile, to the extent that this reply might be totally redundant in which case just ignore.

Ronan, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

www.filepile.org - you log in as me and then upload the MP3 to the 'MP3 pile' - all fairly intuitive.

Tom, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Grrrr I have found Shakira but it is an acoustic pan-pipe mix.

Tom, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No problem, if you send me the password I'll do it tonight.

Ronan, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will send you it Ronan unfortunately tonight is probably too late for my urgent needs. Still it means next time you hear some bangin' choon you can upload it. Isabel has decided she loves the track though so I can always buy it for her as a present and nick it myself for the FG.

Tom, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will upload a bangin' choon later....

Ronan, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thrilling update - Shakira Hives and Bedingfield located, I'm giving up on Inglesias and probably N'Sync too.

Tom, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh and I still need the White Stripes' "Fell In Love With A Girl" too cos I apparently deleted mine.

Tom, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Right - I think I now have everything. I've found N'Sync's "Girlfriend" but looking at the initial suggestions thread there's really no reason for it to be on there so I'm going to ditch it. I've also only got an eight-minute version of "Lazy" so anyone who can provide the radio edit will be a good person indeed.

Tom, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Did you get the single?

Does it have the Norman Cook ultra cheesey old skool remix?

Ronan, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not yet. I still might though. I found an MP3 of some kind of full- length thing.

Tom, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It'll get 4.7 anyway Ronan and be placed 14th.

Tom, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to mark it without being influenced by my own personal epiphany anyway, so I don't mind what it gets.

Ronan, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing on MP3, but I'd like to joinin the focus group.

Anna, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aside from my quest to get the Lazy radio edit, I've taken note of all the people who want to join in and will be e-mailing them when we sort out a date and place - thanks! People who can't make it will get a ballot of course. Martin's votes count double because he likes Daphne and Celeste.

Tom, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

put me down for the live focus group...

toby, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

me too if it's not too late and i didn't already say me too before

up your butt with a COCONUT!!, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Me too pl.

Andrew L, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gah, IE's sucky caching and btinternet's sucky dns server ate my post.

I've uploaded what I assume is the radio edit on filepile (

Gah! mutter mutter bloody mutter mutter hate the internet mutter. That was supposed to read a bit more like this (this will now also screw up and I will go and murder small animals instead of reposting it):

69919 but it's kind of low-quality (sounds ok to me but it is only 96kbps) and it's probably too late now. Sorry.

If it's not too late but you want it put somewhere else instead then say so on here rather than emailing me but I probably won't see this page until 3pm on Friday (whereas I won't see my email for at least several hours after that).

Rebecca, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

WARNING: my attendance at the last live focus group led to me kissing the lead singer of the Dismemberment Plan on stage in front of a crowd of 500 people.

RickyT, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And surprisingly enough your gurlfriend at the time DIDN'T dump you on the spot...

Sarah, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I now have everything except the J-Lo/Ja Rule thing and it's too late for that though I'll get one before the second live group. Now we just need a big enough place for it...

Tom, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know how big you need, Tom. My living room is 25'x12', and the kitchen off it is about 15x10. I'm about four minutes walk from East Ham tube. If there are going to be 50 people it's no good (I can only seat 10, I think), but if nobody can offer anything bigger then I'm game. How many are you expecting? I'm expecting to move soon (selling this house, buying a big flat), but I'll be here at least well into June.

Martin Skidmore, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's a very kind offer Martin - but I think we should be OK for a venue. As for a date - next Sunday or the one after, I think.
