The Big Night Out was often not funny but that didn't seem to matter

"Things to do"

Jarlrmai, Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:21 (sixteen years ago)

yeah big night out has aged really badly and feels very scripted when you watch it now. then again, mighty boosh overkill is also making it look kind of old fashioned already, and the last series seemed to be the same recycling of old jokes and the impression that a lot of white powder might have been involved in the creative process.

the next grozart, Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:22 (sixteen years ago)

I don't agree at all that Big Night Out has aged badly

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:27 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah I still find it funny FWIW, and still better than Vic & Bob's latter stuff too.

Neil S, Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:29 (sixteen years ago)

it's all about The Smell Of...

Timezilla vs Mechadistance (blueski), Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:30 (sixteen years ago)

^^^ Yes.

Tony Woodcockfarmer (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:31 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah I still find it funny FWIW

No, as I said, it often isn't funny but it makes up for it with the WTF factor - a bit like Monty Python

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:34 (sixteen years ago)

altho you'd think they would've stopped bothering with this sketch after being told they couldn't do it in 'blackface' anymore xp

Timezilla vs Mechadistance (blueski), Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:34 (sixteen years ago)

Yes, it's just not realistic any more!

Neil S, Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:35 (sixteen years ago)

Voted Boosh. This ain't 1990.

DavidM, Thursday, 18 December 2008 15:38 (sixteen years ago)

it's not 2004 either.

special guest stars mark bronson, Thursday, 18 December 2008 15:44 (sixteen years ago)

maybe it's MORE like 1990 because of the RECESSION.

FACED.

special guest stars mark bronson, Thursday, 18 December 2008 15:44 (sixteen years ago)

Let's hope it's as big a hit as Catterick.

Seannadams Molloy (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Thursday, 18 December 2008 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

the "if you can call it a ticket, it was more like a bit of paper saying 'admit one' on it" gag is yoga flame. fuck the haters.

special guest stars mark bronson, Thursday, 18 December 2008 15:48 (sixteen years ago)

just trying something

Big Night Out = Leisure
Smell Of = Modern Life Is Rubbish
Shooting Stars = Park Life
Families At War = The Great Escape
Randall & Hopkirk Deceased = Blur
Bang! Bang! It's R&M = 13
Catterick = Think Tank

yeah that'll do

Timezilla vs Mechadistance (blueski), Thursday, 18 December 2008 16:22 (sixteen years ago)

I like Boosh, but come on, Vic and Bob ftw. Smell Of by itself beats pretty much every comedy series ever, and SHooting STars was comedy gold for at least 2, maybe 3 series. I even liked series 5 a little bit with Will Self and Johnny Vegas.

NotEnough, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 09:07 (sixteen years ago)

I don't remember "Families at war" oh hang on it's coming back to me now. Yep.

"BBIR&M" presumably back to the "big night out" format, but apart from that I can't distinguish it in my memory, maybe we were out when it was on.

Dark Place

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 11:30 (sixteen years ago)

'dark place' would have made a decent sketch, or perhaps a single ep a la 'coogan's run'. as a series it had its longeurs, to put it mildly.'
