Okay, the other thread is a little confusing now. So, use this one to dicuss a weekday meet up in a trad-ish London boozer.

1) Is Anthony cool about a weekday Fancy A Pint type thing?

2) Which day? Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday?

3) Which pub? Central = glasshouse stores, y'all know it.

Discuss! :)

jel --, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tuesday is the only day I can do - and since I can't do Sunday it would easily be the best.

Glasshouse Stores next Tuesday therefore should be the choice - making this the shortest thread evah!!!

Pete, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what pete said!

katie, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sounds good to me.

RickyT, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tuesday Glasshouse Stores... 6.30?

Sarah, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh Pink Moose, bellow your assent (or not)!!

katie, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd be interested, but as a newbie you'll have to give me a clue as to where this glasshouse stores place might be.

Martin Skidmore, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This may be hard. Despite the fact that I have been there several times, I always find myself walking past it and having to double-back when I'm looking for it. It's a mysterious place.

N., Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It is on Brewer St, parallelish to Shaftesbury Avenue and has a big sign outside saying GLASSHOUSE STORES for the benefit of people who know where it is but keep walking past it.

Emma, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, when I was hanging out outside waiting for other people to turn up I kept loosing track of where exactly I was waiting outside.

Graham, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've lost it a few times too. It's a shape shifting pub.

Anna at home, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Obviously this would not be a problem if you went to Waxy O'Connors.

Give Anthony a REAL multi-cultural experience. Remember, it has a TREE.

Ronan, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bet it hasn't got Bar Billiards tho

RickyT, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Not that anyone evah lets me have a game there when we go anyway)

Sarah, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Yes and that is a thwceam and thwceam moment, ahem)

Sarah, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan - Waxy's is a terrible pub. Just because you got drunk there on St Patricks Day

Anna, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

terrible? it's wretched.

Alan T, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Directions to the Leftorium (Glasshouse Stores on same road, possibly next door in fact)

RickyT, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Grrr

RickyT, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Double grrr

RickyT, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

wretched? it's execrable.

N., Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It wasn't Patricks day!

It was eh......February. I concede it's horrible but I wanted to mention it again because I'm easily amused. BUT WE'D BEEN WANDERING AROUND LOOKING FOR BERWICK STREET ALL FUCKING DAY!

Ronan, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And anyway don't you sometimes just think that Waxy's is one of the most popular venues in the heart of London. With it's many different bars including the spectacular "Tree Room" Waxys appeals to those who want to relax over a newspaper with their favourite drink as well as to party animals looking for fun and excitement at the weekend. Food is a specialty and is available all day.

Ronan, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This might come in useful next time you're in London then.

RickyT, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know. We found it eventually. There was a fundamental problem with our searching for the first 3 hours or so which is quite embarassing.

Ronan, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Irony of Irony - Berwick Street = Rupert Street (post Ramonds Revue Bar) which Waxy O'Connor's is on. Poor Ronan.

Pete, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is this going to turn into a 'classic' Irish joke?

The map was upside down?

The street seemed much bigger in real life than they did on the map?

The map was of Manchester?

You were in Manchester?

N., Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So Glasshouse Stores in the middle of London's Trendy Japanese Main Drag on Tuesday, then? Cool. That means dinner at cheap Japanese caff nearby, yum. Thread for Sunday comin' up...

suzy, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It means I will be late due to playing PUMP AND JAM around the corner!! Hoooray!!!

Sarah, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh it might actually be called PUMP IT UP, I can't remember. But... it's a GROOVE!

Sarah, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

NB - this is not me.

Sarah, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DAMN.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no, it's ME

Alan T, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I'm Tiger Woods!

Sarah, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

HAAHAHAHAHAHAH!

i saw that game at the bowling alley and my life would be complete if i could see someone play it!

Ron, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's THE BEST EVAH. I hadn't played DDR for ages - then I played this at the Trocadero, THEN found that my regular arcade has now got rid of DDR and replaced it with this - wahey!

Sarah, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought we agreed I could be Tiger Woods.

alix, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

waaaaaaaaaah. i wanna go to london now. but one plane ride per month is enough for me.

jess, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tuesday sounds good , where again ? Can someone give me a sTreet ADress ?

anthony, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

See my Double Grrr link above, Anthony.

RickyT, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

55 Brewer St, Soho. Near Piccadilly Circus.

N., Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Innit!

Sarah, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Shit upon Shit , Tuesday i am going to the Theater- just got a call. Can we change it to Wednesday ?

anthony, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ha ha! wednesday is better for me too!

gareth, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, who can make it on Wednesday?

Someone better new answer this arounf 9am tomorrow morning!

jel --, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's THE BEST EVAH. I hadn't played DDR for ages - then I played this at the Trocadero, THEN found that my regular arcade has now got rid of DDR and replaced it with this - wahey!

Sarah, tis probably cheaper at your local, than the firstborn the Trocadero would charge you;> Looks like the electronic version of "Twister".

A) How do you score? B)How flexible do I need to be to play it?

Nichole Graham, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

anyday is fine at the mo', it could change though.

Ed, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My vote is for Tuesday, as I may well have a date on Wednesday. Since none of you know me, I don't imagine my possible presence or not can carry huge weight...

Martin Skidmore, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

MArtin
It would make me sad to not have you there .

anthony, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tuesday or Wednesday whatever - yah mo be there. All being well.

Dr. C, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

NEW ANSWERS!!!!

Anthony can't make it on Tuesday!

jel --, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Since he is going to the theater. He is thinking of selling his ticket however if no one can come on WEDNESDAY.

anthony, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Weds and Tues equally good to me.

RickyT, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Where are you going to The T - since GHS is near most T's and you can easily do a 6 to 7:30 9:30-11 stint. I really can't make any other day, Weds I'm in Brighton and Thursday, er, Japan.

Pete, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is really really embarrasing so dont mock me - The Globe to see twelth night.

anthony, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah, tis probably cheaper at your local, than the firstborn the Trocadero would charge you;> Looks like the electronic version of "Twister".

Well it's not my *local*, it being on Wardour Street, but it's my first real arcade love. Oh the hours (and the ridiculous amount of pound coins) I must have spent there dancing like a fool to arrows... the Trocadero suXoR if you just wanna play DDR but is still GRATE FUN to get lost and disorientated in. DO NOT GO THERE ON ACID dere me.

A) How do you score? B)How flexible do I need to be to play it?

You score by stepping on the appropriate displayed arrow when it hits the top of the screen, you can get Perfect, Great, Boo or MISS (I think) - according to how good yr RHYTHM is cheers cheers. It is amazing fung, you just have to get over the machine facing immediately out into Wardour Street which is fine by me as I haf no shame. I always have to play the left hand side though.

Sarah, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(I can do Weds as well...)

Sarah, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Any nice pubs nearer the Globe? Inna South Bank stylee?

Sarah, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am glad it is not just me who gets lost in the Trocadero, I went to the cinema there ages ago and me + chums got horribly lost going up & down escalators in a nightmare scenario whereby we could SEE the cinema but not actually REACH it.

Since this whole meet up is really for Anthony's benefit it would make sense to do it on Wednesday innit?

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

heh heh heh Tate Gallery Cafe heh heh heh.

Seriously, there is a Young's pub just in front of Tate Modern when alighting from Millennium Bridge. That seems like closest pub of any description to Globe, but may well be shit. Je preferer vodka-bar Baltic.

suzy, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Founders Arms. Its pleasant enough - though possibly not great for huge groups. If the Ship was still a sailing....

Pete, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That'll be the Founders Arms with a lovely view of the Wobbly Bridge. It is an OK pub.

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

BAH.

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Grr it is alrrright but does not sell crisps = DUD!

Sarah, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So um, i kind of want to spend the whole night with you guys.
Their are two options and it needs to be decided by today
1) I sell my tickets to the globe ( which i am willing to do because it is 12th night and isnt it touristy adn disney and baudiallard (not in the good way either) to do this kind of thing
2) We do it on Wednesday

I Also have some concerns:
1)I do not want to be an ass about this, I have a fear that i am monoplozing your time
2)I am willing to go over most of London as nesscary but am afraid of getting lost afterwards and therefore would really like something fairly close to Paddington
3) I want to taste Perry and eat Steak and Kidney Pie
4) I would like an amusing name for the pub we go to
5) I want it to be fun and sort of low key.
6) That I will fuck up socially and not really understand the ettiquette of these places
7) I am afraid that I will not find you
8) Price
9) Loudness allowed

If this makes me an even bigger asshole then i have been then i am really sorry.

anthony, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know of anywhere (pubs) in London that sells perry.... Tim? And you are not monopolising our time, we are a bunch of wastrels who love to have an excuse to go to the pub.

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You gotta go to Americkley to taste Perry.

Sarah, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ach, Anthony, don't worry. The only issues might be three and four. 1) We all want to see you and as Emma says most of us will go to the pub at the drop of a hat. 8) The Glasshouse Stores is dead cheap being a Sam Smiths Pub and 2) is just round the corner from Piccadilly Circus which is only six stops on the Bakerloo line from Paddington. 5 + 9) This is a pub we're talking about here! 6) There isn't much, apart from the buying of rounds which tends to collapse a bit at our get togethers anyhow. 7) If you're really worried about finding us we could always get Lixi to bring the TigX0r hat again.

RickyT, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

BABYCHAM = PERRY.

Pete, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes but I haven't seen that in a pub for some time either. Plus Sam Smith won't sell it now will he?

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ed easily spottable - just look for tall white guy in architect's specs and long blond dreadlocks. Easy-peasy.

suzy, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Also Anthony, don't be too concerned about the time monopoly thing. Only problem with Paddington is closest gallery = Serpentine, but the current show is gorgeous. Buy yourself a Travelcard (you need passport photo from booth) so you don't get pranged on cost. And yes, will be happy to get you in the ICA.

suzy, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Do you need a photocard for a weekly travelcard? I didn't think you did)

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(You do)

RickyT, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah, you do need a photocard for a weekly travelcard, anything over a daily one must be accompanied by MUGSHOT.

Sarah, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Screw the brackets. That seems very unfair on tourists. Bloody London Transport.

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you guys make me feel really neat
so do i sell the tickets to the globe or is this wednesday?

anthony, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think you can get "Tourist Travelcard" without one - but might be wrong. Of course I would advocate a weekly bus pass - but hey, that's just me.

Pete, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

According to the woman who set up our tour, their is a weekend bus pass picture needed.

anthony, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe for a specially organised bus Anthony, but not for regular London Transport weekend travelcards.

Sarah, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Yeah yeah I spacked up before, okay)

Sarah, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mugshgot necessary for 7-day LT Travelcard (includes tubes). Mugshot unnecessary for 7-day Bus Pass. Get the Tube one, staying West you'll need it for getting to the centre as traffic from West to East * diabolical*.

suzy, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

not weekend, week long sorry phased

anthony, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I WUV BUSES!!!

Pete, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, Pete, we know.

RickyT, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

However they are not always ideal for the tourist who does not know where to get off. Or for speed e.g. it took me under an hour to get to Clapham last year but it took Pete over 2 on buses, ha ha.

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, someone's got to do research on London-based opera companies so that Joei can get the hook-up and we can move there...

Dan Perry, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oop time to meet the neighbours!!

mark s, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so it's definately wednesday now is it? s'my birfday on tuesday an' all...

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yep! I think it is Wednesday!

jel --, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Anthony's a swell chap, but if I ever met him I could definitely not resist the temptation to send him on a weed run to the jookiest dominican drug house I know and tell him, "yo ant, while you're there, drop some more of that cultural musing on ANYTHING that involves black people, you're very in touch with it!"........don't worry, I'd bail him out right before they spoon out his heart......like I said, he's a swell chap!
