Things my dad has said in the past 12 hours:
- Asked if Johnny Mathis was black. Then asked "how" black he was, then made comment about Mathis' mother going up to visit the "big house".- Brought up the probability of Obama being assassinated for the one millionth time, with supporting evidence that Reagan and Ford were shot at, Kennedy died, McKinley died, on and on.- Segued from Obama assassination to Charles Manson. He said he hopes Charles Manson never dies. Upon further questioning, dad says that Manson is possessed with an evil satanic spirit, and that if he dies that spirit will leave the body and enter into another body (like the movie Fallen, I guess), and the killing spree will begin again. Ignores all talk of personality disorders, etc. Quotes from Bible.- Forces us all to watch the 60th anniversary of Israel celebration and to be quiet during the singing of their national anthem.

Oh yeah, and last night when I was walking my girlfriend out to her car, the window was busted out. All of her camera equipment (she's a photojournalist, so it's...a lot) was gone. Also my iPod, her boots, my boots, and my sleeping bag.

I got out of Seattle despite adverse weather conditions, have been in Minneapolis since Monday, seen my family and a few friends, plus extended relatives it's been ages since I saw last, and am back at my hotel. I am very happy and hope you all are too (and extend my best wishes to 2 5), and now that it's 11:59 can say for the last time, Merry Christmas.

spent both christmas eve and christmas day in the company of both families, half-watching 'christmas in connecticut' and the alastair sim 'scrooge.' had a lot of wine which allowed me to better tolerate my father-in-law talking nonstop throughout both movies.
most important was that i got to spend all of both days in the company of my beautiful wife modernism, who got me this:

hilarious postscript to this story: I ordered a nice wok from The Wok Shop for my girlfriend, hoping it would get here by Christmas. It still hadn't arrived, so earlier today I finally got a hold of them, and it turns out that Fed Ex left it on my porch in Ithaca (while I was in St. Louis) on December 24th. When we got back, it was gone, so someone must have stolen it. That means that on Christmas Eve, we were robbed in two cities on the same day! Beat that!
