di, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

beyond classic

anthony, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I really like them Ferrero "milk and hazelnut" things, Buenos? MMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Nick Southall, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

AND I just met Bill Drummond. AND I got myself a job in advertising. AND I got given a free ice cream this afternoon. A good day all in all.

Nick Southall, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Blimey. You insufferable cunt. In fact. Heh. Good for you.

mark s, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nutella = chocolate-hazelnut flavored crisco = dud unless it's eaten straight out of the container with a knife. you and yr 'lightly toasted brioche' nick, i swear.

geeta, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

geeta you lah-di-dah snob: what is wrong with those pointy bits on the ends of your hands eh?

mark s, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

we are not all pointy-handed brits mark

geeta, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

actually i was wrong: the best method for nutella consumption is the intravenous route

la-di da-di we likes to party

geeta, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Meeting Bill Drummond / Getting a job in advertising / Free ice cream

What, is nobody going to go for the big "two out of three ain't bad" gag?

clotion, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

NUTELLA!

Daver, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It is not merely chocolate spread, it's hazlenut chocolate spread and the vanilla flavour is essential to a good nutella.
so, yes, I like the cheaper non-Nutella brand ones but they must include a vanilla component.
I don't like on things though, I only eat it from the jar with a fork.

haloist, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

KaZaa is easier to use than Nutella ...

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

llamasfur is perverted

haloist, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Uhhhhh. Nutella. I sometimes feel rude buying it. Not that I have ever done anything rude with it as I am sure I would get far too carried away with the nutella and forget the naughty bits wrapped up in nummy chocolate spread heaven mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - lightly toasted brioche though NO! On white bread!!! SHIT! I do not haf any Nutella! MUST BUY SOME NOW NOW NOW oh dere am stuck in office OKAY THEN later later later!

Sarah, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nutella is fantastic, I have fond childhood memories of eating it out of the jar furtively.

Ronan, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My childhood nutella memory is of going round to my friend Natalie Mayhew's house before our ballet class and having nutella on hot white toast mmmmm. I hope she googles herself and invites me round for more nutella. We also used to go to Wicksteed Park in her mum's Morris Minor but there is no nutella in that memory so it's not as good.

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Putting teaspoons covered in it into the fridge to make chocolates.

Anna, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I have found my perfect activity for this evening thanks to Anna! That sounds great. You could roll them in chocolate strands (stracciathingies) or hundreds and thousands and make truffles! Wow!

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You can use foil too and then unwrap them

Anna, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I cannot believe you haven't been offered a slot on Blue Peter. Or have you?

What a lovely gift for Mother's Day. Or Valentine's Day etc.etc. Mind you I am so greedy I would probably not have the patience to wait for it to harden (hur hur).

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is why I am not at work, I'm not ill I'm in secret training to be this generation's Valerie Singleton. In October my collaboration single with sophie Eliis Bextor will be released. But, shh, for the moment.

(Note: nutella fridge made chocolates melt very easily at room temperature.)

Anna, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Do I neeg a grown up to help me with the cutting out?

Ronan, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would consider it my personal mission to eat the Nutella chocs before they have a chance to melt.

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ditto chocolates made out of Ice Magic which - in a Gonch Gardiner- esque scam I tried to sell at school - shocked to find pappy brown stuff in bottom of my bag a breaktime.

And melted chocolates.

Pete, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My childhood nutella memory is of going round to my friend Natalie Mayhew's house before our ballet class and having nutella on hot white toast mmmmm.
Eep my friend and I used to do this as well. Later on we moved on to pancakes.

nathalie, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What a shame we never bumped into each other at Natalie's house, ha ha.

Emma, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pappy Brown Stuff = grate name for iconic popcult figure of some kind

mark s, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom Jones.

Ronan, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Stirring raisins into the remains of a jar of Nutella makes a delicious and healthy (fruit, see!) snack. When trying to resist Nutella I just have to think about Life Is Sweet - usually works.

Archel, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRKKKKKKKKFFFF!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

mike hanle y, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

this is ridiculous how could it be dud

ambrose, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nutella is the devil's shite. That so many people prefer this ABOMINATION and spurn the yeasty wonder that is Marmite is further proof to me that the world has gone bonkers.

Lady Space Pilot, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anything that can be described as a "yeasty wonder" is automatically a dud.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What, even beer?

Matt Fallaize, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would NEVER describe beer as a "yeasty wonder". "Hoppy happiness", maybe. "Yeasty" = "Nasty" and has vague coochie correlation.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nutella is fantastic MIXED WITH MARMITE!1 (this is TRUE!!!)

mark s, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Your PANTS appear to be ON FIRE!

RickyT, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You are all freaks. Chocolate is to be consumed as dark Ghirardelli chocolate bars, having been frozen for maximum enjoyment.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

don't listen to them - they just like marmite because it's more "indie"

geeta, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My Nuts Tella to lick them.

Guru, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nutella, not bad nut not as good as Snickers spread. Num num. Especially mixed with cheap vanilla ice cream (extra vegetable fat, dbl num num).

Billy Dods, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My God, we're all going to die.

Nick Southall, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What's with this spooky Nathalie/Nutella connexion?

Ditto chocolates made out of Ice Magic which - in a Gonch Gardiner- esque scam I tried to sell at school - shocked to find pappy brown stuff in bottom of my bag a breaktime. >

This sentence makes no sense to me at all.

I hate Nutella. It's one of those things that only works when one is 'on the continent'.

N., Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That sentence was in patois, and makes perfect sence if sung to Up Town Top Rankin'. "No Chocs No Style"

Pete, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ice Magic - ice cream topping that "magically" became hard when poured over ice cream.David Blaine eat your heart out.

Gonch - Scamster at Grange Hill with orange hair. Went on to become student union bod at UEA (fact).

Jonnie, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I know what Ice Magic and Gonch are. It was the syntax of the sentence that baffles me.

N., Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It occurred due to my computers gnarly habit of missing words out when I get a work e-mail message and missing out five to ten characters - and of course my lack of poof reading.

Pete, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh.

Jonnie, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

we used to be able to buy little nutella foil packets (like what jam/jelly comes in) in primary and high school for 20 cents. i dont think ive ever had it on bread either.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

EVERYTHING chocolate should go in the FREEZER. seriously. frozen mars bars and frozen cadbury creme eggs are like heaven

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

i can get nutella in the little foil packet style thing with a plastic spoon at my local shop. it could own my soul.

jeffrey (johnson), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

Classic. Mounds of the stuff on freshly baked baguette, that's what you want.

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 22:36 (nineteen years ago)

I prefer Smucker's Apricot Fruit Spread. It is sooo good.

youn (youn), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 01:31 (nineteen years ago)

Kraft here have just made CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER. I got some to make a Nutella comparison.

They're quite different and both num. Nutella is softer, slightly "runnier" if anything, easy to spread, and a lot sweeter. The choc peanut butter is stiff thick spread, and it actually has a strong, almost salty peanut taste. Its a bit like eating Pocky maybe. I love it, its disgusting.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 01:42 (nineteen years ago)

>almost all american chocolate is muck<

when we say chocolate, we really mean chocolate flavored sugar. we're sugar addicts who want to sound a bit more sexy, I guess.

nicky lo-fi (nicky lo-fi), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 04:58 (nineteen years ago)

How can one compare Marmite to Nutella? One is savoury, one is sweet.
It's like comparing green beans to ice cream.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I was wondering that actually. Until someone said put the 2 together. Then I was just ill.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 05:28 (nineteen years ago)

EVERYTHING chocolate should go in the FREEZER. seriously.

You're obv mental. Putting chocolate in the freezer makes the sugar rise to the surface. So this has been told by a praline maker in our street. You just don't do it. Then again mars bars, nutella and cadbury creme eggs are just the lowest of the lowest in chocolate so I guess you could put'em in the fridge. ;-) I just think it's silly to put Nutella in the fridge cause it makes it too hard to spread on toast.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 06:14 (nineteen years ago)

OTM.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 06:18 (nineteen years ago)

Store chocolate in a cool, dry place. Anything below 10 degrees celsius is too cold though.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 06:19 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

in some weird fit of thesis-induced scattered-mind decision making this weekend, i bought nutella, or, okay, president's choice nutella, which is really the same thing, probably 'better' even. and i bought belgian-style white bread. and bananas. some other stuff, i don't know. i'm pretty sure this is the first time in my life that i've bought my own jar of chocolate-hazelnut spread anyway. it was good for the first few bites but had to spread thinly - so sweet, cloying, weird.
such a minor nod to nutrition too. but however minor, it means i can also minorly commend myself for not buying the straight-up don't-fuck-around-about-it dark chocolate spread right next to it on the shelf. what is that even for? what do you spread that on? wld you just end up eating it with a spoon anyway?

my stomach kind of hates me. i am launching an investigation into these seemingly minor levels of self-destruction. also eating salad for lunch.

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

used to love it. now it's way too sweet for me

Hurting 2, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, cloying is a great word for it

Hurting 2, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

i work at a cr3p3 restaurant and probably eat too much nutella. nutella + strawberries + bananas + coconut + almonds + vanilla ice cream + whip cream + grand marnier -- on a crepe, washed down with a cafe mocha -- makes for a nice snack, and sends you hurtling into sweaty sugary panic in no time.

negotiable, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 18:00 (seventeen years ago)

was it the 3kg (6.6lb) jar rrrobyn?

Right. I'll get my coat now.

That's my dinner sorted.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

Nutella = classic for the reason of the free glass which I am sure I have mentioned elsewhere is a design classic. We now have about 6 of them and they outlast all other glasses.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 19:54 (seventeen years ago)

straight-up don't-fuck-around-about-it dark chocolate spread right next to it on the shelf. what is that even for?

this reminds me of Spain. when i was there my friends aunt would give us chocolate sandwiches!
Two big chunks of bread with some butter and a bar of chocolate inside. they were good at the time but i have never made for myself

carne asada, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 19:57 (seventeen years ago)

basically all my breakfasts in switzerland were a chunk of bread with nutella. lunch was a chunk of bread with some kind of salami or prosciutto and/or mozzarella.

Jordan, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 20:10 (seventeen years ago)

Nutella on pancakes with sliced bananas. OR in rice pudding. It's the best.

Nathalie (stevienixed), Saturday, 11 February 2012 10:16 (thirteen years ago)

Love the flavour, hate the idea. Why? Cos I grew up with younger siblings who would raid the Nutella jar with their 'orrible filthy little hands, leaving it looking like the least appealing substance in the universe.

Laughing Gravy (dog latin), Saturday, 11 February 2012 10:34 (thirteen years ago)

ah, the benefits of being an only child - no-one to gunge up the Nutella with crap. Just very neatly take out what you need in one clean motion, no need to MASH IT UP LIKE A CEMENT MIXER.

'Nutella jar house blaze' kills Twickenham family's dog

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 13:46 (ten years ago)

The man behind Nutella was the richest person in Italy, with an estimated fortune of $27bn, until he died last week.

Rainbow DAESH (ShariVari), Tuesday, 24 February 2015 14:02 (ten years ago)

he died on the 14th, twickenham dog conflagration was on the 15th. clearly he's haunting jars of nutella as a vengeful pyromaniac spectre.

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 14:05 (ten years ago)

The Nutella guy also invented Tic-Tacs, Ferrero Rocher and Kinder Surprise. That's one hell of a fucking CV.
