So here it is
Art from Noon to Three on Sunday
Then the Owl and the Pussy Cat for a quick pre zimmy drink
There will be a picnic if the weather is good though.
Then Wednesday there will be a proper english pub meet somewhere near paddington
So quick questions
1)Will someone take me back to my hotel after the pub meet or send me off in a cab ?
2) where is this pub meet going to happen ? ( I want something with the CAMRA seal of approval)

Are there any nice pubs in Paddington?

RickyT, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not the Glasshouse Stores then?! That's only a few tube stops from Paddington and we can easily escort you to tube/right platform etc or send you off in a lovely black cab if needed? I dunno if it's CAMRA though. Head of Steam is though! Bar billiards!! Yaaay!

NOT THE HEAD OF STEAM.

Maybe Crocker's Folly? It's huge but not in a bad way; it's not far from Paddington; it does a few decent beers. Not the greatest pub in the world but not a bad one, and one which I just don't get to enough. It also had bar billiards once, but I don't know whether it has any more.

Sarah's right, The Glasshouse stores is really not that far from Paddington. It isn't CAMRA approved, but there are very few places in central London that are and are also good for big piles of ILxers.

Sounds interesting, Mr H.

RickyT, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bit of info about it here. Sport on telly not ideal but seven real ales and port and cheese++.

I am told that the story about Mr. Crocker is a myth. It's a good one, though.

The Dickens Inn isn't oo bad. Actually, it's not very good at all. It has two things going for it though:

- they showed Celtic V Livingstone when all around were showing Man Ure v Leicester

- they do the biggest plates of decent food I've ever seen in my life, and I've been to the States, let me tell you.

Even so, the pub is bobbins.

Nathan I bet you didn't go to Mama's Daughters Diner. Huge plates of food like chicken fried steak and gravy, mashed taters, fried okra, turnip greens, red beans and unlimited cornbread. *slurp*

Have we decided on anything. I have decided that i am too be much\ looser and will accept the tap in a cobblestone ally

Crockers folly is indeed a good pub, very large bars and some comfy big sofas too. Never realised the whole story was a myth though

I'm going to buy books and I'll scan the good beer guide for a CAMRA approved pub. There's a pub on Fournier St which serves Adnams SSB which might fit the bill. I'll try and find something closer to paddington. Other than a couple of pubs on westbourne park rd, one servers oysters and guiness (mmmm), I don't really know the area.

I vote for Crocker's folly. It serves nice beer, pub connosieurs Tim and Cabbage like it and it's a short walk from Paddington.

RickyT, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I second Crockers Folly - who will have PORT AND CHEESE with me eh?!?!?!

Sarah, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Oh no now I will get no work done at all due to thought of port and cheese and subsequent happy drooling...)

Sarah, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh heh

they call me THE GOUT, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, where is the Crockers Folly???

jel --, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's on Aberdeen Place, off the Edgware Road... directions from Warwick Avenue here (but either Edgware Rd tube is more or less as close, and St John's Wood and Marylebone are all within easy walking distance, unless you're as lazy as me).
