i hired the video of 'dude where's my car' and the video cover people were so impressed by what variety had to say about the movie that they put it in a big yellow bubble on the back with an exclamation mark:

"fitfully amusing!"

praising with faint damnation?

i liked the movie by the way

Its the kind of backhanded compliment that the audience of the film would like. I would say that (much like Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure which is obviously apes) Dude, WHere's My Car is aimed a reletively intelligent teens, young adults. It actually has quite a lot of quite dexterous verbal humour - not to mention the attraction of laughing at dumb people (and a notable lack of excessive gross out humour). For such people an honest review from a source they may trust - rather than the usual "I laffed and laffed and so did Dr Vick" you can get any hack to write would in itself be amusing to the target audience.

I thought it was fun too. And am looking forward to the sequel: "Serious Dude, Where's My Car".

I'm waiting for the crossover movie with Steve Guttenberg "Dude, where's my cocoon"

Matt Fallaize, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And the one set in Liverpool/Poland, "Dudek Where's My Car".

(I love the movie too - ashley whatshisface is a genius)

Jonnie, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry but is this the same "Dude Wheres My Car" that stars that shithead from that 70's show? If so, this world must be coming to an end because this is probably one of the biggest pieces of shit to hit the screen in a long time.

Chris, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not seen it, to be honest. I just like inserting the word cocoon into other film titles. For some reason this always amuses me.

Matt Fallaize, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Dude, Where's My Sonic Screwdriver?"

Dan Perry, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, where's my Legends of the Fall?

Matt Fallaize, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Dude, Where's My Piece of Shit Movie"

Chris, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i saw it because mary lynn rajskub is in it. she is neat

Ron, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

TvGoHome had 'Dude, I just barfed my mom's wedding ring up your ass'

Nathan Barley, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

dude where's my error on video box that wasn't really an error but i really hoped it was?

ashton kutcher is the 70s show guy, and he is charming (in dwmc anyway, haven't seen him anywhere else, didn't watch 70s show)

minna, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ALso there is the clever side of "Fitfully Funny" - as it appeals to the phrase "in fits of laughter" - which suggests that iot is funnier than the reviewer is letting on.

Pete, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, but fitfully AMUSING? what's that, a half-smile every twenty minutes?

Matt Fallaize, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The two guys that are in it are very cute; I forgot I need to rent this.

Sean, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and "fitfully amusing" was from the Empire review wasn't it - i nearly used that as a quote myself (i get to sell these goddam videos) but decided against it... hehehe "SERIOUSLY DUDE - WHERE'S MY CAR??" hehehe...

katie, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Fistfully amusing.

nathalie, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, wheres your head at? The movie would been better if they cut that awful end

Chupa-Cabras, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

God god that end was deliciously crass and mysogenist.

Sterling Clover, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Seriously Dude, Where's My Car, is of course the best name for a sequel ever thought of by a man or a woman.

N., Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nathan Barley, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)
