It tastes pretty similar...http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3079/3186044240_45f48f46a5_m.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3516/3186047894_d4e88a8886_m.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3449/3185206983_34603f420c_m.jpg
Are the designs identical?

those aren't biscuits, they're cookies
― and what, Monday, 12 January 2009 19:19 (seventeen years ago)
Are these like Piques Frine?
― Calling All Creeps! (contenderizer), Monday, 12 January 2009 19:21 (seventeen years ago)
I have no idea if it is shoddy or not, but it is obv a knockoff, or it would sport the brand name. Companies with proven brands prefer not to sell the same stuff anonymously for less money, since the same stuff costs the same to make no matter what and they would make, like, less money, y'know?
― Aimless, Monday, 12 January 2009 19:33 (seventeen years ago)
I don't know the weird business logic that would make them agree to resell to the US through a no-namer, but the package curiously says "product of canada"... maybe these are peak frean factory seconds?
― Philip Nunez, Monday, 12 January 2009 19:57 (seventeen years ago)
Check the package for a toll-free number. Operators are standing by.

Maybe Kraft no longer cares to cater to dwindling Peen freak market segment, so licenses certain design elements to budget cookie manufacturer, but withholds the name to avoid sullying future brand potential.

Your Kraftspiracy theory intrigues me... BTW these are packaged under the Target store brand of foods "market pantry"while TIm-Tams are sold under the Peppridge farm label, but apparently also exclusively at Target.
But Canucks, can you confirm that the cookie designs are the same?
― Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 13 January 2009 00:43 (seventeen years ago)
i thought they had peak frean in america too, otherwise how would i know it exists? also wtf does that name mean
― Schwwww (harbl), Tuesday, 13 January 2009 01:21 (seventeen years ago)
Peak Freans are sold in the US and Canada under the same name. These look like a knock off as the biscuit takes up a greater surface area than the jam compared to the real thing.
― snoball, Tuesday, 13 January 2009 11:39 (seventeen years ago)
that has somehow become my default spelling of creme (minus the accent obv)
don't try to pin the fake cookie trade on canada; it is a world-wide conspiracy

A chewish conspiracy.

i have not eaten one of those in years - but it looks very similar of not the same.

Can hot liquid be siphoned through these, TIM TAM STYLE?
The reasons the Canadian Connection is suspicious:1. The original Peek Freans stateside packages all seemed to be imported from Canada (perhaps repackaged for US market, but always a "product of Canada")2. These imports appear to have ceased about a year or so ago, leaving no more official Peek Freans for the US:blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2006/05/peek_freans_are.html3. There already exists some disgusting US knockoffs (Safeway Select, Trader Joes)
― Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 13 January 2009 21:50 (seventeen years ago)
There are plenty of disgusting fake P/F knock-offs in the UK as well. Hello, R0v3r Biscuit Assortment! Sort-of all the biscuits you like, except they don't quite taste right.

Canadian government plans bailout for cookie industry.

UPDATE: I called target and they were pretty cagey about disclosing where/who they sourced the cookies from.isn't there some freedom-of-information-act thing I can use to force them to tell me? this cookie stonewall cannot stand!
― Philip Nunez, Friday, 16 January 2009 19:34 (seventeen years ago)
dude, do you want us to just send you some Peak Freans? :)
― skeletal lexing (Finefinemusic), Friday, 16 January 2009 19:37 (seventeen years ago)
Yes, please!
Well, not if these cookies are the same. Have I mentioned that they are absurdly cheap and each box is of obesity-friendly American quantity? (Seems to have 3x the amount of cookies as the old imported peek freans at slightly less cost, w/o even factoring in inflation)
