Did they exist?

I was reading about the discovery of a cyclops skull in Bulgaria...

er, phooey, I have no real question.

It's so hard to find a picture of a cyclops on the internet.

Cyclopsi are absolutely and totally real. For over seven centuries now they have lived in scattered communes throughout the Belgian Congo. First photographed by Scottish explorer Remo Guest in 1854, their isolationist and nomadic nature has made them difficult to track down. Two tribes in the Quayumo basin have been electronically tagged, and are under occasionally supervision by the British Natural History Museum. Contact with the tribes, however is rare as cyclopsi believe that seeing a white man is a precursor to personal explosion. For more information on cyclopsi and the NHM's "Tag-the-Native" campaign, visit their website.

Well done as those 'personal explosions' are best avoided.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Sunday, 12 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is that a reference to anything? Or is it a home-grown ILX-ism?

Prude, Sunday, 12 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It all started with the Mark S masterpiece Oh No! FITE! Oh no!

Thanks for the picture kim, a cyclops robot is clearly the coolest thing in the universe.

There were three Cyclopes, the offspring of Uranus and Gaia. They made the thunder bolts for Zeus, and they had some really cool brothers the hundred-handers. Cronus took a beating. But then Apollo went and killed them (in venagance for the death of his son), and Zeus punished him by making serve a mortal for a year, instead of throwing him into Tartarus.

yes, of course they existed, otherwise no one would have been around to help Vulcan make Aeneas's weapons (it's hard to find someone to make a shield with a thousand years of history on it).

That, and there had to be some explanation for why that same shield shattered to pieces. Scary to think there was a race of men that dwarfed mountains.....

I think Kim answered this question pretty thoroughly.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 12 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope this isn't a subliminal thing that says far too much about me...

Kim, Sunday, 12 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, do you have one big eye or not?

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 12 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes Ned. And it sees ALL.
