And how will you celebrate?

(Since the big party friends are throwing will be Tuesday night, for tonight I'm thinking a good dinner with some excellent sake so I can toast W. with a hearty 'farewell and fuck off.')

Ned Raggett, Monday, 19 January 2009 08:02 (seventeen years ago)

good riddance

I'm in the building and I'm feeling myself (The Reverend), Monday, 19 January 2009 08:03 (seventeen years ago)

I'm having some friends over so I can read the crimes of Dick Cheney aloud. After each crime is read we will raise our glasses and toast "Go fuck yourself!"

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 19 January 2009 08:13 (seventeen years ago)

apparently i will stay up rather late and then sleep in

mookieproof, Monday, 19 January 2009 08:22 (seventeen years ago)

This all goes on at like 3 am here. Tempted to get up specially but probably won't.

I'm going to spend all day hanging out at my ranch instead of working

ay big hoos, there is this tradition on the jew holiday of passover wherein the 10 plagues of passover are read allowed and after each one everyone at the table says "dayenu", a hebrew word that roughly translates to "enough to us" and then everyone dips their pinkie in red wine and dabs it on their plate to symbolize the blood of the dead

i think you should involve red wine in your ceremony

Wow, I'd never heard of that Passover ritual. I love Jordan's suggestion.

i'm going to invade a small, defenseless nation and do all the plundering and earth-scorching i can until 11:59pm, when i will pull out.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 19 January 2009 16:31 (seventeen years ago)

I read that the wine ritual was originally spitting, but that got too gross.

I moved to Seattle just days after GWB first got inaugurated. So, I'll just be looking around seeing a Seattle with a Democrat president for the first time ever. It will be weird.

Ashee Bolanalli (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 19 January 2009 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

granted, WTO happened on Clinton's term, to name one example of how little this matters, so I don't expect the city to just crack out of a pupa of self-imposted depression or anything, but I think the city as a whole will have less of a common cause or thing to rant about. Maybe good or bad.

Ashee Bolanalli (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 19 January 2009 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

i cant believe how long george bush has been in my life - its sort of ridiculous - im ready for a change - sry bro smell u l8r

ice cr?m, Monday, 19 January 2009 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

srsly i have never really seriously been conscious of another president i don't know if my mind can handle this

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 19 January 2009 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

I am trying to think of the inevitable things the press will tell us about over the next 100 days.

* weekly update on how the economy has not improved (enough) in the past week under Obama's stewardship
* at least two or three massive magazine or major newspaper puff pieces profiling military members who are now able to be openly gay (though everyone they worked with knew already)
* continuing endless stream of weird, unconsciously bigoted shit from the NYT

So much to look forward to!

it's big whoopdee-doo news up here that Obama's first foreign visit will be with Canada (not a Muslim state) (yet).

apparently he's going to fix all our problems too.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 19 January 2009 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

actually, the news outlets here for the last few days has been pondering whether or not he will be "bad for Canada".

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 19 January 2009 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

In what sense?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 19 January 2009 17:48 (seventeen years ago)

if Harper manages to get himself a majority government, Canada might actually consider their leader more embarrassing than Obama.

:-O

Ashee Bolanalli (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 19 January 2009 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

and you know what that means to a lot of "U.S. Sucks, neener neener" Canadians. (none of which are here, but they do exist. oh do they exist.)

good riddens you fucking sociopath, though I will miss your way with words

Edward III, Monday, 19 January 2009 17:56 (seventeen years ago)

In what sense?

the whole free trade issue - some are worried he may try to renegotiate it (which might not be all bad imho) or just walk away from it in favour of a more protectionist approach. there's arctic sovereignty - no one is quite sure how Obama feels on this one but having Clinton take on the issue does not bode well for us. and then there the oil sands - the concern is that since it's "dirty energy" it may find itself with some harsh critics in his administration (who will be ignored, i think).

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 19 January 2009 18:09 (seventeen years ago)

if Harper manages to get himself a majority government, Canada might actually consider their leader more embarrassing than Obama.

i'm already embarrassed by Harper.

I think you're mixing up two different traditions. One is where you read the plagues and spill a drop of red wine for each one for the Egyptians who died. Dayenu is a separate thing where you talk about all the great stuff God did and say if he had only done x "it would be enough."
