― CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:05 (seventeen years ago)
i mean seriously what the fucking fuck
guess i should strike this from the old netflix queue then huh

MASSIVE SPOILER:...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................Evil Son Of Claudius becomes kind after zombie Hamlet bites Fortinbras's head off. This is what is called 'irony'.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:08 (seventeen years ago)
i am still kind of stunned by how horrible this was
― CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:09 (seventeen years ago)
i havent seen this but it looks pretty awful
― s1ocki, Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:09 (seventeen years ago)
i am angry
― CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:10 (seventeen years ago)
i guess the first one left too many loose ends huh
― negotiable, Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:11 (seventeen years ago)
i want to shoot steve coogan out of a cannon into a brick wall for doing this movie
― CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:12 (seventeen years ago)
the trajectory would be familiar to him at least
― negotiable, Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:13 (seventeen years ago)
is this good btw?
I have only just realised that this is actually genuine.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:16 (seventeen years ago)
I actually considered starting a thread about this. For something that seems like it could have a mildly amusing premise, i genuinely think this is the worst film i've seen this decade. Just woeful on so many levels.
― Number None, Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:44 (seventeen years ago)
haha local weekly here reviewed this as follows: "another great comedy in a year of great comedies."
it was pretty awful btw.
― (The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Sunday, 25 January 2009 05:10 (seventeen years ago)
i kinda liked this actually
― bats in a kayak! (latebloomer), Sunday, 25 January 2009 05:19 (seventeen years ago)
it's really sloppy tho
― bats in a kayak! (latebloomer), Sunday, 25 January 2009 05:21 (seventeen years ago)
yeah it's such a hot mess there were parts where i kind of couldn't actually believe i was seeing it in a real movie theater
― A B C, Sunday, 25 January 2009 06:14 (seventeen years ago)
but i kinda enjoyed it too. the lyrics to the musical numbers made me think of in junior high school when every class project was an opportunity to do a really cringey awkwardly worded weird al song parody
― A B C, Sunday, 25 January 2009 06:16 (seventeen years ago)
still so fucking angry about this piece of shit movie
― CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Sunday, 25 January 2009 07:14 (seventeen years ago)
bag of goddamn bullshit
― CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Sunday, 25 January 2009 07:36 (seventeen years ago)
it was alright. raped in the face!
― akm, Sunday, 25 January 2009 15:00 (seventeen years ago)
lol I haven't had a reaction like John's to a movie since the time I tricked myself into seeing Pearl Harbor. In the theater. Where I paid for it.
― ╓abies, Sunday, 25 January 2009 15:23 (seventeen years ago)
ditto, i think? pearl harbor still ranks as the worst movie i have seen in a theater
― i like to fart and i am crazy (gbx), Sunday, 25 January 2009 15:24 (seventeen years ago)
I think what happened was I knew zero about the movie, overheard someone saying very positive things about it, went out to see it, and after the fact realized "ohhhhh, that was sarcasm", or something like that.
― ╓abies, Sunday, 25 January 2009 15:29 (seventeen years ago)
i was kind of excited for this movie because the idea seemed amusing and i like steve coogan but yeah it was pretty bad. the actual performance sequence was OK but that was only like 15 minutes of the movie, the rest is shitty
― congratulations (n/a), Sunday, 25 January 2009 15:47 (seventeen years ago)
i don't understand the hate, i thought this was one of the funniest movies i've seen in a long time. i saw steve coogan in tropic thunder and didn't like him at all but here he is funny as shit. The ultimate fuck-up, having the worst week in his life, trying to go through the motions of being a Inspirational Teacher Movie teacher. It's so ridiculously OTT and Coogan particularly in his portrayal of flakey drama teacher/failed actor. Not to mention that he Hamlet 2 script undergoes most of its revisions after he has an acid trip. Favorite parts:
Catherine Keener (toasting): To Dana...my husband...what the fuck was I thinking? Hahahah..Just kidding..
(classroom full of kids acting up)Coogan: Hey, you fucking bastards!!(they all turn around stunned)Coogan: I hope I'm not freaking you out. Wait a minute, I HOPE I AM FREAKING YOU OUT!
Jesus FanGirls: We do the right deeds like go to church and such, and we stopped smoking weed, well at least not as much.Elizabeth Shue: solitary LOL in audience
Jesus (to Hamlet): You got my cel number, right? Boy, when my father finds out what I've been up to, he's gonna crucify me.
― Adam Bruneau, Sunday, 25 January 2009 18:14 (seventeen years ago)
This movie would have been infinitely more tolerable if Coogan had used his own accent. Why attempt a flat American voice that he can't sustain (especially when he yells) when something Peter O'Toole-y would be so much more funny and appropriate for a lunatic drama teacher?
n/a otm, though - the actual performance of Hamlet 2 was still awesome.
― da croupier, Sunday, 25 January 2009 18:29 (seventeen years ago)
i actually remember laughing a few times but it sure wasn't at any of those lines -- jokes about jesus using a cell phone might've done it for me when i was 12, maybe.
the concept of a sequel to hamlet is actually much funnier than what they did in the movie.
― (The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Sunday, 25 January 2009 18:53 (seventeen years ago)
^yeah that was pretty irksome.
not gonna lie though, i mostly enjoyed this despite it being uneven.
― latebloomer, Monday, 26 January 2009 00:03 (seventeen years ago)
Gotta admit he does a funny drunk roller-skate.
― Adam Bruneau, Monday, 26 January 2009 15:13 (seventeen years ago)

― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Monday, 26 January 2009 15:16 (seventeen years ago)
"It can't possibly be as bad as the 'sexy' witch movie or 'I Accidentally Domed Your Son'!"

John J.'s triple bill for the ages.

"Pearl Harbor" is a terrible movie but it is the height of cinematic artistry compared to "I Accidentally Domed Your Son".

Wow I had no idea it did so bad financially. I change my mind about finding it to be a funny movie.
― Adam Bruneau, Friday, 30 January 2009 23:24 (seventeen years ago)
There's a pr0n version of Hamlet and that has a sequel too, also called "Hamlet 2"
― snoball, Saturday, 31 January 2009 11:00 (seventeen years ago)
This was a such weird movie... Lots of good bits mixed lots of awful, embarrassing bits. It felt like the filmmakers weren't sure whether they wanted to do a parody of the typical "a bunch of underdogs overcome their differences and get their chance to shine" story or the real thing, so they just put decided to turn everything onto hyperspeed and see what comes out. The problem was just that everything was so weird and over-the-top that the parts of the movie that were meant to be more serious didn't mix at all with the rest of it. Catherine Keener did a fine job as Steve Coogan's wife, but her character simply belonged to a different film. Also, a lot of the time I wasn't quite sure whether the movie was playing along with movie cliches or making fun of them, like the scene where Coogan went to meet the Latino kid's parents, or when the school principal admitted his dad had molested him. But there were some funny moments too (loved the preteen theatre critic!), and the actual play was indeed quite cool.

― Tuomas, Sunday, 15 February 2009 22:41 (seventeen years ago)
The second time Coogan moons the screen is awful, embarrassing but you have to admit the first time is LOL funny.
There's a split second where they show the theater critic's review and it's full of typos. Funny easter egg!
