Imagine your wife ...

Sorry don't just imagine your wife. Imagine that she can't understand some of the things you try to say to her. Certain trains of thought. What do you do? Do you try to educate her, do you appreciate other things about her, or are you polite to her?

I'd say question whether the things that are coming out of my mouth are actually misunderstood or just the usual monkey -gibberish.

Hopefully I'd have worked that out before I married her. :)

But having had said problem with non-wives, the only option seems to be: (1) keep trying until it's obvious you're never going to get anywhere, (2) give up. Anyone who's bothering to be anything close to your wife would theoretically be polite enough to at least humor you and try to follow along -- and even if she can't, it only becomes a problem if you run into some other person who understands and is very interested in whatever it is you have to say. Hopefully this other person is hideously unattractive or terribly irritating or has some other insufferable quality that makes you conclude you already have a better deal. If not: God help you.

I should amend that to read "non-wife," singular.

Mentor/mentee relationships always seem to me doomed to failure. Of course I try to explain, but I trust she sez many things which whoosh over my head as well, eh?

I think I would commit crimes with her, then you would have a secret bond of understanding anyway.

Can a relationship between two people without terrible secrets still succeed? Could I be a marriage guidance counsellor?
