Check to see whether yr flight has seat power. Adapters are under $100.

Also, buy a spare lappy battery.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out of there's any sort of power available, but I can't seem to find that info on the Air New Zealand site. I'll figure it out I guess.

And also my laptop battery lasts like 45 minutes, I'll need like four of them.

Damn it all, maybe I'll just bring sleeping pills.

How about a book?

These guys have good info on seat power. Also, take tranqs, not sleeping pills.

If you can turn wireless off that should increase the battery life a bit. Gets me another half hour or so on my netbook thing (battery life with wireless on: about 1.5h), anyway.

We were shooting for Wellington, but it is lol Auckland instead! Just cuz of the colleges my friends wound up choosing (I'm the tag-along do-nothing). Still trying to find a place to live.

Where do you get tranqs??

turn off bluetooth and wireless and reduce screen brightness as low as you can stand it

Ideally I sleep as much as possible on this flight and play Mother 3 the rest of the way.

aww auckland is poo! i remember your friend posting about moving to nz like a year ago, didn't realise you were going too! you will love it, undoubtedly.

This. Also, some computers have an energy saver option that lessons performance but increases battery life.

As for the flight, I always download a ton of podcasts (mostly NPR) and put them on my shuffle. I just sit and listen. It's a good kind of passive entertainment.

ANZ is meant to have pretty decent in-flight entertainment. You get a pretty good selection of films and shows particularly where they have VOD on long haul now. Coming over here, on BA, watching Cool Hand Luke passed the time and sleeping the rest.

Combination of Laptop, IFE, iPod, reading matter and melatonin should see you through.

BTW you are SOL or power in economy on ANZ.

Ed, Monday, 26 January 2009 17:54 (seventeen years ago)

for power

Ed, Monday, 26 January 2009 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah we totally got the cheapest seats possible, that's what I feared. Thank you all.

Laptop battery, books and drugs it shall be.

I'm so excited for this! I've lived in this kinda crud town for five years too long and we leave in two weeks and this is going to be such a rejuvenating breath of good air.

My wife, but I don't think she has any to spare right now.

two years pass...

does anyone know if they sell spare batteries for macbooks at heathrow? as opposed to the bloody apple store, i mean, i won't have time to go there

i really hate apple stores, just incidentally

lex pretend, Sunday, 9 October 2011 18:02 (fourteen years ago)

don't know for certain, but would be very surprised if the answer was yes.

you sure you've got the macbooks you can easily change the battery on anyway? since 2008/9?ish it's been something that's not designed to be done by end users.

caek, Sunday, 9 October 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i've done it before, my macbook is THAT OLD

lex pretend, Sunday, 9 October 2011 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

i guess i shall have to do that thing where racing the laptop battery is a SPUR to writing quickly fml fml
