How Do You Sleep?

start on side, always mysteriously end up on back

lately about 4-5 hours

Can't sleep, cousin of death etc.

Can sleep, clown will eat me.

Typically on my right side, and very poorly.

This being wintertime and wotnot, not naked do I sleep.

Answer: I switch it up. On a bad night, I switch it up over and over and over and over and over.

This is when the significant other starts thinking about investing in a Sleep Number mattress.

when i nap in the afternoon or fall back asleep in the morning after waking up, i can sleep on my back. but at night it is IMPOSSIBLE, no matter how hard i try, to fall asleep on my back

literally every night for as far back as i can remember (that i was not induced into sleep by some other agent) i've slept on my stomach, on my right cheek. it's rather depressing

True fact: if I'm on the couch, I almost always wake up with my arms crossed across my chest, vampire-style. It's just a lack of space issue.

xpost I can't even lie comfortably on my stomach, much less fall asleep.

Which is mostly how I do it, except for the occasional foray onto the right side (facing the radiator) if it's really cold.

usually start falling asleep just before i have to get up, half sat up with film on laptop still playing and headphones half on my head.

On my left side, then on my back in the final stretch before the alarm clock rings. This never used to happen – I've a full instead of a twin bed – and it's killing me.

Right side, with a pillow between my knees to straighten my back. I generally spin like Linda Blair throughout the night, I'm told.

Was told not to lie on my front for a week or two after some surgery last year and got mad grumpy as I was still tired and achey from the op but couldn't really sleep on my back, especially not propped up on extra pillows as I was supposed to be.

last night i tried (in vain) to convert myself to back-sleeping. for what had have been two hours, i forced myself to lie on my back, despite everything in my body telling me that this was wrong. of course this didnt work and i fell asleep on my stomach at about 4am :(

Weird, I thought I answered this but it would be same as cutty's.

On my back, pillow under knees, hands crossed on my chest. I don't move at all, as far as I can tell, as I have wrapped small blankets around my feet for extra warmth and woken up in the morning with them still in place.

Also I prefer that my hands and arms be doing the same thing on both sides: either at my sides or crossed on my sternum or etc, but the same. Symmetry is important.

That's kinda like a vampire.

It's funny you say that, jel, 'cause on those occasions when I fall alseep like that, I tend to think of it as a medieval funerary effigy.

I always wake up on my back, but lord knows what position I'm in while I float in Sausagemania, the land between awake and asleep.

I go to sleep on side. This annoys cat #1, who prefers to sleep with me in the crevice between my legs.

On left side crushed on right by wife and on left by dog. Usually start out on my back.

i've been trying to sleep on my back recently but always wake up face down. Also, for some reason, I always sleep on the side of the bed nearest the door (even if it's a single bed).

Left side, both arms above my head. Always. And I"m not sorry about it, no regrets!

i start on left side and change to right before i fall asleep. if i wake up in the middle of the night i switch sides again. my shoulder starts to hurt. i wish i could sleep on my back.

im exactly the same way, except i dont really mind sleeping on my stomach

whenever im dead ass tired i fall asleep on my back - often accidentally - but i usually can never do it when im trying

i dream crazy dreams - usually nightmares- when i sleep on my back. im a stomach/right cheek sleeper all the way.

I somehow doubt that most people naturally sleep on their back. The times I've had to do it due to some injury or something, it's been very difficult. Of course pain pills can help, but you know what I mean.

i checked "left side," but really it alternates between that and stomach with left cheek on pillow. for reasons i don't know, sleeping on my right or stomach/turned to my right is much more likely to provoke anxiety, insomnia and nightmares.

(i can sleep on my back, but it's not very comfortable. does tend to produce vivid dreams.)

50/50 stomach/back initially, but I toss and turn a lot and pretty much always end up on my back.
