The Isley Brothers - This Old Heart of Mine (Is weak for you)

(thought it was time for a new music thread, hope that's ok! :)

jel --, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Some dull as oatcakes tech house thing my colleague James is playing on the office stereo. It's so boring I can't even be bothered to find out what it is. It's been on for six minutes and done absolutley nothing. Oh, no. A snare just came in. Thrills.

Anna, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The whir of the air conditioning. The sound of the matches I am using to keep my eyes open snapping.

Emma, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Eminem on the radio as I make a coffee and walnut cake.

Before that - Talk Talk - 'stump'

sean, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This Morning without Richard and Judy. I can't see it though. Nickie is watching it properly.

N., Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The wind through the trees and the tiny tippy tap of me and my minions keyboards. We are both very busy. (Well obviously she is busier than me cos I'm here, but I just did a bank reconciliation in record time and am putting off sending the income tax year end thingy).

Pete, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete is listening to IDM!

jel --, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

M/A/R/R/S - Pump Up The Volume, which I just got off Filepile.

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

V/A - More Bass Culture.

Volume 2 of the Ian McCann selected dub compilations. This one's mainly King Tubby and is the best album I've bought this year. It's fantastic.

Dr. C, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

At the moment nothing but the incessant buzz of the office and silly people on the phone. The last thing I listened to before coming to work today was Hana by Asa-Chang & Junray which I picked up from the Post Office yesterday (it was sent to me rather than the Highgate Near the Station branch going horizontal in the products they sell).

Jonnie, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

magma, double live album.

Clear Skin by Insides.

RickyT, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A work colleague designing a new computer system for the University, for telephone calls to alumni asking for donations. I'm heckling, suggesting that the system should record a call as a 'telebeggar' 'soliciting' a 'sucker', but he keeps using different names.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The comp CD from the last issue of Robots and Electronic Brains.

jel --, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't listen to music at work, its not that kind of office, but in my head:

A song by Herman Düne, remembered from last Friday, called something like Going To The Everglades, with a gloriously simple descending lead guitar line. The song name-checks the scratchy 1957 Silvertone guitars the brothers play. They also covered Kylie's Can't Get You Out Of My Head, a cut-down version that ended up sounding like a Jewish folksong.

David, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He's put it on again! Why? It's just a bloody drum loop.

(Sorry about going into rant mode)

Anna, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nothing new. radio. WANT NEW STUFF NOW

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He's put it on again! Why? It's just a bloody drum loop.

Do you ever think that a dance music magazine is not the best place for you, Anna? ;)

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, ObAnswer: "Sex" by Scritti Politti. Bit of an over-egged pudding but the bassline's terrific.

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Theatre Of Eternal Music

sundar subramanian, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Again, no music in office. But co-worker Mike bought a tiny radio from next, so before it started raining in the park (NB as soon as we are soaked back in the office the sun shines like a fcuker) we listened to the MOST ROMANTIC SONG EVAH: Perfect Gentlemen by Wyclef.

Sarah, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah and Mike sitting in a tree, Pole D-A-N-C-I-N-G!

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thank you Dr Fox!

Sarah, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanking Dr FOX! What next, giving SATAN a HUG!?

RickyT, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Let's see, the sound of the cars on the distant(ish) highway, some birds...it's 6 AM and everything is very peaceful. :-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Arik Einstein: Yerushalaïm Shel Zahav

stevo, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just listened to Amanda Roocroft belting her way through Richard Strauss' Im Abendrot (Vier letzte Lieder - 4th song). I'm using this as inspiration for the vocal arrangement on The Foxgloves' "G.U.", which I'm about to muck up for the umpteenth time. I mention this purely for the benefit of Mr Moore.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Carpenters' "Won't Last a Day Without You".

Honda, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just been listening to some très bizarre MIDI versions of "It's Only A Paper Moon", while trying to find the James Darren version on the interweb.

Jeff W, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I hear Satan is very cuddly.

Sarah, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Certainly the devil in our cellar is.

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The phrase "cuddly Satan" shouldn't make me think of Ned, should it?

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mercedes Peon - Isue. A Galician singer who's filling in the gaps between Ofra Haza, Kate Bush and Dolores O'Cranberry. The jury is still out but I'm sticking with it for the time being.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm listening to some new LTJ Bukem thing I've to review for some website, and some compilation of Dutch Dance music which seems quite good.

Ronan, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Until I left for work: a mix involving the Langley Schools Music Project doing Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft and samples from Dune. The boyfriend's way of fucking my head up I think.

Now: a case of sick building syndrome waiting to happen.

Archel, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Never Be The Same Again by Melanie Chisholm IN MY HEAD. Otherwise v.noisy air conditioning and some twats talking bollocks.

Graham, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Do you ever think that a dance music magazine is not the best place for you, Anna? ;)

Rave on, feel the vibe man.

Anna, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

scritti politti's cupid & psyche 85 (also last night*.) (*yeah yeah...and i want no cracks, TOM EWING.)

jess, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm using this as inspiration for the vocal arrangement on The Foxgloves' "G.U.", which I'm about to muck up for the umpteenth time.

You are *such* a tease, FGGround0. You know how much I want to hear this. Never has a cake taken such an extended baking.

David, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The phrase "cuddly Satan" shouldn't make me think of Ned, should it?

Yes, yes it should. *smiles a little too broadly, gently caresses pointed nail*

As it is, now I'm listening to the Monks. Very Satanic.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Phil Stumpf - "Du Kannst Nicht Tanzen"

As in "Du.... kannst nicht tanzen. Du... kannst nicht tanzen" etc.

Tim, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Chemical Brothers and some Lee Perry. "Clip clop cloppiddy cloppidy cloppidy cloppidy hiii!". This Redman CD wont work on my stereo or PC, so I tried it on a friends stereo and it worked. I've only listened to it once. Fuckin' CD's.

michael bourke, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

debaser, off a copy of death to the pixies i just robbed off my sister...i had vaguely heard a reference to this before, but i just copped on now that the song is clearly based on that louis bunel film un chien andalou (sp?),which scarred me for life during a visit to the museum of moving image in london when i was around 13...ever since i saw it i have a fear of anyone going near,or talking about going near,my (or anyone else's)eyes...fuck,every time i hear debaser now i won't be able to stop thinking about it...dunno how i didn't notice before....

robin, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hello Tim Finney, no doubt you are referring to some of this modern dance music but WOT A GREBT TITLE: whats it like?

Sarah, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing at present, but today I have listened to Caetano Veloso, Aden, Aztec Camera, and out of childlike enthusiasm for this fun game I have just bunged on some Cat’s Miaow! which is, natch, bangin’.

Mark C, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Darren Hanlon's 'Yes, There Is A Slight Chance He Might Actually Fail'. It will change soon.

Loose Rap by Aaliyah. But I heard the SWEETEST song recently: Angie Stone's Why I didn't miss you. I heard it in a pub. Then, becaus eI didn't know WHO sang it, asked on ILM. My friend, after reading the thread, phoned me to tell me. Yesterday I heard it at the Ten Days Off but in a FANTASTIC REMIX VERSION! Today, without realizing my friend phoned me up to let me hear that remix. hah! Gah, I want that remix on VINYL or a SHINY DISC. Or MP3. heh

nathalie, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

On the Nickel - Tom Waits. I'd forgotten how gorgeous this record is.

Matt, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My favorite Mohammad Abdou tape. Possibly a bootleg. Unfortunately I don't know the title, or where or when it was recorded.

The Rapture-House of the Jealous Lovers, I haven't made up my mind yet, at the moment I only love the drums. So I'll probably put on something else in the 5 minutes I have before I go to work.

Ronan, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ANGIE STONE - WISH I DIDNT MISS YA
I think last night I got a bit sick of it (literally). Had a massive headache. But i am AWRIGHT NOW so it's playing again. HURRAH!

nathalie, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm currently listening to Bananarama, but just a minute ago, I was listening to Bad Dream Fancy Dress (hurrah for ramshackle pop)

jamesmichaelward, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey Martin S, was that Ahmed Jamal alb 'Live at the Pershing Club'? If so, there's hope for you yet!

Dan Perry, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Soytenly do, Ronan. Two versions, actually!

To Dan: yes, my friend. Something about that song and that performance just takes it to a new level all around.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hatiras-Spaced Invader, boy oh boy is it good and can we make a name for this sort of techy disco grind.

random mp3s. currently Bucephalus Bouncing Ball by Aphex Twin.

and in the time it took me to cut and paster that it changed to Boards of Canada, er, Wildlife Analysis. (btw, star, i didn't enjoy the new BOC album, mostly, but the Bola cd that came out at the same time ('fyuti') was everything i wanted the new BOC album to be)

argh, changed again. afx237 v7 by aphex twin. the random feature isn't very good on music match, i get the same tracks over and over again.

I just finished listening to Madonna's _True Blue_ album. "White Heat" is a forgotten CLASSIC (second-best song on the album after "Live To Tell").

Dan Perry, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dolly Parton-Halos and Horns. I think it's the best album I've heard all year. Haven't gotten to the "Stairway to Heaven" cover yet. I'm so bummed I missed her at the House of Blues last week.
