And it's her birthday on Friday!

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not that I'll get an invite now!

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's because she doesn't go out with indie mentalists ha ha.

N., Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Would a taped copy of Girls Say count?

RickyT, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is Emma coming to the Anthony meet tomorrow? I have no idea what Emma likes, but I can bring her a randomly-generated compilation tape (I haven't mentioned my database in ages!), if so.

I can't imagine my life without these. I've had them from at least ten different people, maybe 20 - loads from some of these.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

RickyT: surely.

Martin: don't know. I will ask her tonight.

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Question is: would emma and compilation tape actually explode in a release of energy equal to their combined mass?

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's a big heap of energy. I've suddenly gone off the idea.

RickyT, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

RickyT has some kind of death wish!!

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

OI! Are you saying I'm fat Alang?

Emma, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think so, yes. Hit him.

Ally C, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No. that was RickyT. (I'm not making many friends today, am I readers? groo)

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Humph. Please do not waste your time imposing your insane musical perversions on me, instead please do charitable sponsored events to pay for my botox injections.

Emma, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But we can give you compilations of rare tracks burned onto cleverly designed CDRs so you can sell them to tourists in Camden to pay for those injections, do you SEE?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Um, I meant human + mixtape = lotsa energy, not Emma + mixtape in particular. I think I'd better run off and hide now.

RickyT, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Too late the damage is done. Anyway I don't have a cassette player so no tapes please.

Emma, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"mixtape" is a generic term, like "kleenex" or "thermos". I think a karaoke/college a capella mixtape would be PERFECT for you, Emma.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah well er um (thinks of a way out of this) I don't have a CD / minidisc / record player either. But I have a neck and ears and wrists and fingers so some diamonds would be nice.

I always thought mixtapes were like the next step up from giving someone macaroni jewellery i.e. only a good present to people who think that time & effort show love more than WADS OF CASH i.e. not me.

Emma, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn, that's my macaroni jewellery idea guessed too!

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How sad, Emma. Clearly the only appropriate gift at this point is for Tom, Sarah, Katie and RickyT to follow you around all day on your birthday singing you 4-part a capella arrangements of all your favorite songs. It will be LOVELY!

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I use my "Rule Britannia" voice??

Emma my actual present for you is very expensive (by the poor standards of mate's gifts, yours excepted of course).

Tom, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hurray! A reason not to throw myself under a tube on my birthday at last. Also my boss just took me for a birthday lunch (he is out later in the week) to Mash and I saw Jenny Eclair (admittedly a somewhat rub sleb but better than nothing. And I saw Isla Fisher in TopShop last week!)

Emma, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh, Mash does nice food. What did you have?

Anna, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well we shared a caesar salad for starter (great wodges of parmesan ahoy) with some of their very nice bread & olives then I had a delicious risotto with prawns & peas and a glass of white wine. This left no room for pudding sadly. My boss had a HUGE pizza with duck on it which is not something I entirely approve of. I always feel very self-conscious when my boss takes me out for lunch. I wanted to have chilli spaghetti with squid & chorizo but feared I would not be able to eat it neatly and professionally.

Emma, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bah, I've never had a compilation tape made for me, either.

Mitch Lastnamewitheld, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Join the club.

Graham, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

By 'bah' do you mean 'thank fuck' by any chance Mitch?

Emma, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Isla Fisher! Yay!

jel --, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What's wrong with you people?

Ally C, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What?! Isla Fisher is a babe!

jel --, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(i went to mash for lunch the other week and thought it pretty rub; in that awkward midground between cheap food which you don't mind being so-so and expensive ace food)

toby, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

duck pizza is important

mark s, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

still making tapes for anyone who wants one!*

(until i run out of tapes. if worse comes to worst, i shall tape over my old cassingles. sorry, "radio song" and "mysterious ways.")

jess, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well Tom made me a compilation for my birthday (plus a PROPER present) and I was overwhelmed with excitement (+ booze + stuff). I have now listened to it a couple of times and overall Tom I give your comp a 9/10.

My compilation tape cherry has gone. What a momentous day Friday was.

Emma, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It was a CD which explains why it was better - less indie.

Tom, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Better than what? And you lot said 'tape' was a generic term! Stop confusing me.

At least it wasn't hidden in the kitchen cupboard.
