Moms are cool: T/F

I like my mom because we can talk about things like colors for hours that no one else would want to talk about. Or lightbulbs. Or Count Chocula.

OTOH sometimes moms are not cool.

i'm shy (Abbott), Friday, 30 January 2009 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

definitely cool, especially when around cool kids, cuz that's a fun combination.

i like her, but my mom isn't very cool

mookieproof, Friday, 30 January 2009 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

True for a pretty large subset of moms and a rather small subset of the meanings of "cool".

Aimless, Friday, 30 January 2009 19:07 (seventeen years ago)

i was always jealous of the kids who could like have their moms hang out with everyone without it being weird

Surmounter, Friday, 30 January 2009 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

my mom and i aren't on speaking terms right now. it's weird. but then the other night i had a dream that she died. and then i ended up watching Imitation of Life on TV, in which the mom dies and her daughter only realizes how much she loved her afterward. it hit home!

Just gave my mum a computer and helped her get on the Internets for her first time. So far so good: She can email and watch YouTube.

and what, Friday, 30 January 2009 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

very T. my moms just paid for a ticket for me, and sent me cookies the other day

k3vin k., Friday, 30 January 2009 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

in 1980 my mom agreed to pick up Frank Zappa tickets for me, from the local outlet at the Hughes & Hatcher department store...when she got there, the machine was down, so she drove down to the Masonic Temple and waited in line with all the freaks...the guy at the ticket window assumed she was there for Nutcracker tickets...she got 15th row seats for me...thanks, mom!

We need an "Is Yr Mom a Freak?" thread.

My mom was childhood friends with Paul Mavrides (underground comic artist/original Subgenius guy) as well as the guys from Devo. Which is completely the coolest thing ever. Ohio must have been weird in the 70s.

Adam Bruneau, Saturday, 31 January 2009 03:45 (seventeen years ago)

my mom is pretty cool. she fronts like she's a badass (mostly to her coworkers and my friends) but she's totally a mom.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 31 January 2009 03:50 (seventeen years ago)

i just realized in the last year or so that my mom is a human just like me with feelings and confusion and mad humor and shit and that was pretty eye opening.

my mom is not cool in that she has terrible taste in everything (except her cooking which is fab) and doesn't know how to use a computer but she is super-cool in that she lets my sibs and i do whatever the hell we want and we've never had a massive fight over anything.

Spirit has so much to do with how people age imo. Older people who look young are the best people to have around.

xp oh er nm

my little pony prophecy (will), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 03:47 (fifteen years ago)

My mom was 40 when I was born so the generation gap was more like a chasm for most of my life (me = punk rock anarchist, her = conservative republican & usher at Nixon's funeral) but as we've both gotten older she's found a groove for herself even though she's wistful that most of her friends are dead.

She's 85 now and still crazy active - skiing, traveling around (just got back from a couple weeks in the UK) and working on her '67 XKE. She doesn't own or want a cell phone or an answering machine, but an Aston Martin? Hell yeah...

(she doesn't like having her picture taken, so here's a picture of her garage)
