Because this is America! And we can get nabbed for health violations in various locations across this great land and STILL stay in business! (Or am I stuck in the '80s?)

Tad, are we BOTH stuck in the 80's?

One time, I used a Popeye's bathroom to take care of some "business". Walking thru the door, I was smacked down by a thick mass of batter-dipped smoke. The entire place was yellowed and extra crispy. A dirty mop bucket loitered next to the bathroom door. I had to hold the door closed w/ my feet while hovering precariously above the commode. Once I got home, I took a long hot bath in some gazpacho and DDT.

Time for lunch!

I used to eat there in high school until my friend got ill from it. Yes, 2 tacos for a dollar, a jumbo jack for a dollar, or a chicken sandwich for a dollar. All of it is terribly suspect. The lady that worked in the drive through was also scary and looked like a clown because she had too much make up on. The stuff of nightmares.

fortunately i have not patronized the fast food majors for several years. however, at one time i held the grilled sourdough burger in high esteem (taste-wise) actually that is the strength of JITB: they take a no-holds-barred approach to grease, sugar, etc. which is why that crap tastes so dang good (assuming you have some appreciation for burger stuff) those tacos are frightening btw, they look to be deep fried after construction. otherwise how does the entire thing become saturated with that tasty grease? i used to live where there was a JITB at the end of the block, 24 hr drive thru, and young enough to not care about eating fast food daily. yikes.

four years pass...
the thread about the e. coli spinach made me miss JACK IN THE CRACK. i had to move east from san diego (HOME OF JITB FOODS INC.) and the last one we would pass through was in allen, texas so we felt obligated to stop and eat and what we knew would be the last chance to have our choice of all the signature jack in the box specialties: the classic JUMBO JACK ("YUMBO YACK"), BREAKFAST JACK, SOURDOUGH JACK, 2 TACOS, FAJITA PITA, JALAPENO POPPERS, EGG ROLLS, CHICKEN BREAST STRIPS (with Franks Red Hot SauceTM), 99-CENT CHICKEN SANDWICH (mayo, fried chicken patty, thin wilted leaf of iceberg lettuce).

the ultimate cheeseburger is pretty grotesque and i wouldn't even eat that, but i was inexplicably drawn to the tacos. cheap meal = to get the 2 deep-fried tacos that came in the little individual paper sleeves and were all crispy on the exposed shell part but soggy where the "meat" bulged out from the middle, with a JJ for a tidy $2.07.
