Finally a chance to choose from one of these titanic athletes, I have tried to give as broad a choice as possible but obv I'll have forgotten some favourites from this comforting joyous sport. I am sure I've forgotten some glaringly obvious ones too.

Please also just discuss golf in general and great moments, post pics or youtubes at will.

Obv I have spread the options evenly across nationalities/countries etc as much as I could, with no unfair biase towards any one area.

I wonder who Local Garda is voting for, and whether he has 3 "r"s in his name, and is not German

america is the only _______ that _______ (country matters), Sunday, 1 February 2009 22:13 (sixteen years ago)

ha you forgot mickelson. as much love as i've got for dudes like parnevik and freddy couples, tiger is the one who (obviously) got me into/playing golf (for which i'm eternally grateful) and might be my favorite athlete ever. so boring choice, but it's eldrick

I can't decide actually. I think it has to be Seve if I'm being serious. I saw him play in Druids Glen before, towards the end of his career, and he was having a fucking nightmare, way over par. He put the ball in a toughish bunker at one of the par 3s, then proceeded to hole the bunker shot for a birdie to absolutely raucous cheers. Real Tin Cup moment.

x-post yeah prob should have Mickelson.

also, i voted for Fred Couples. Love his tempo and his attitude. I used to be called Boom Boom when i played on the High School golf team back in the early 90s. I also get to play on his home course on Beacon Hill in Seattle where there's a nice framed picture of him just inside the clubhouse.

also i wish it wasnt the ass dead of winter so i could play

johnny crunch, Thursday, 5 February 2009 00:38 (sixteen years ago)

My brother in law and nephew are friends with Boo Weekley...he swears he's only in the game for a few years, long enough to accumulate enough money to never have to work again, then he's heading out to the woods for a lifetime of hunting and fishing. But now that he's had a taste of intl. team competition (and crazy $$$), I wouldn't be surprised if he changes his tune.

WmC, Thursday, 5 February 2009 00:45 (sixteen years ago)

Voted Corey Pavin for that amazing fucking 4-wood to finish at Shinnecock.

WmC, Thursday, 5 February 2009 00:48 (sixteen years ago)

boo weekley is a disgusting savage!! (jokes, I'm still just sour about the ryder cup and all the crowing) he seems like an OK dude

cozwn, Thursday, 5 February 2009 00:54 (sixteen years ago)

Correct me if I’m wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers, they’re gonna lock me up and throw away the key.

i am a big fan of rickie. i hope he wins a major.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 28 August 2016 13:25 (eight years ago)

I'm also a big fan. I have his hat. His majors performances are always wildly inconsistent from day to day, but I'm sure he's got it in him.

It certainly is punk of the Church of England to think that way (tangenttangent), Sunday, 28 August 2016 13:30 (eight years ago)

he was really consistent a few years back - he used to be a really good place bet. he's also good on links so possibly a british open one day.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 28 August 2016 13:35 (eight years ago)

Lee Trevino should have made the list. It is reaching back quite a long time to a golfer who could be a bit of an asshole sometimes, but also could be quite endearing. He's about the least likely guy ever to become a PGA pro and a six-time majors winner.

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Sunday, 28 August 2016 18:30 (eight years ago)
