Wembley Stadium

Right now David Bowie, Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson, members of Queen, and members of Def Leppard are belting out a version of "All the Young Dudes" to what looks like 3 billion people in Wembley stadium on VH1 Classic. What's the deal with this place? One trillion people, two trillion arms, all clapping in unison. Have any of you Brits ever seen a show there? Do they still have shows there? What modern band would even be qualified to play there?

Freddie Mercury sure must've looked small from the last row of Wembley stadium.

I saw Bon Jovi there (the second to last ever show held at Wembley). I am unashamed to say it was great, and the best show I've ever been to.

Never been to a gig there, though I have been to a football match there - that's what it's best known for.

Hmmm, Wembley Stadium. Marvellous. Isn't it? Hmmm. White Horse final. Stanley Matthews. Jumpers for Goalposts cos the Jocks pulled 'em down.

What's that? Autoglass Trophy Final. Stockport versus Port Vale. Memories flooding back. T'riffic. Stam Boardman in jingo-istc pre match routine. Ooh-Ah Van der Laan.

er....over to Motty.

I have been to Wembley Stadium about five times, all when I was eight or nine years old and all for Schoolboy International football matches! As well as the proper matches (played by boys in their mid- teens I suppose) they also matches for us ickle kids where they put ickle goals at the each side of the pitch (like for the ones used for five-a-side) and played these games cross-ways, there was a demonstration of Super Skills (this was a scheme to train kids to play better football - I assume - by heading the ball fifty times in succession and other e.g.s of "ball control"), there was also the Royal Marine band and at half time there was Community Singing with Ed "Stewpot" Stewart (Pack up Yr Troubles! Hi Ho Silver Lining! etc etc). I only remember one match when England THRASHED Holland 7-1.

I only remember one match when England THRASHED Holland 7-1.

That wouldn't be Feb/Mar '82, would it? I was supposed to go to that but was off school with tonsilitis when the tickets were given out.

My only visit: England 6-0 Luxembourg, Euro qualifiers, Sept '99.

My only visit was a playoff final about five or six years ago. Bristol Rovers lost 2-1 to Huddersfield. If only Marcus Stewart's last minute shot had gone in off the post instead of coming back out. Then we might have won and gone up and not have to sell him and consolidated in the First Division and...oh, sorry, I didn't know you had to get off this early...
