I can't think of any possible long-term way that internet comments boxes can be held to any higher legal standard than everyday speech is, apart from the horrible idea of considering it all a form of "publishing" and leaving a whole massive field of action up to prosecutors' discretion.

btw i think that comments sections on news articles is a pretty horrible idea, they're always sub-youtube comments in quality.

same thing with the Toronto Star. anything that has even the slightest link to politics is flooded with Conservative dito-heads blithering talking points about the Liberals. i suspect some actually work for the Cons. it's tiresome beyond words.

This seems to be the case with almost any of the newspaper sites that allow online comments. I guess it is their way of avenging themselves on the "liberal media".
