Music Swap Shop

After a brief and none-too thorough testing, I'd like to bring your attention to a "swap shop" for music: Music Swap Shop

It's basically a bulletin board organised around musical artists where you can register wants and swaps, and browse other people's. Naturally more swaps are registered than wants -- "wants" being vague aspirations, and "swaps" being actual CDs (etc) that you have and want rid of.

NOTE: there is no suggested method to the actual swap, it's just a way to get people in touch with one another.

If enough people register, who knows it might actually work.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well done on getting it up, but it's a shame you can't browse through genres - it would only work if your wantlist was like two items

michael, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ok i found the artist list now which is nice. but for soul, jazz, easy-listening etc, genre categorisation is the only way to go

How about changing the snail-mail zone for UK to EU, Alang? Or at least give me a 4th option.

Jeff W, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, all suggestions welcome. I can add an extra mail zone no probs. Genre categories I don't know about.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hooray!

Browsing by user is best. The only album I can think of to swap is really shit and nobody will want it. I will go through my colossal indie section tonight and purge the fuckers.

Tom, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I shall have more quality CDs on offer later today!

jel --, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(i also swap for cold hard cash (I think £4 for each CD is fair), am I allowed to say this on the site Alan?)

jel --, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i guess so. put it in your profile text box thingy. (see i know all the lingo when it comes to interweb design).

BTW, i added "EU"

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

From feedback I've received, I have extended ways to browse the site. artists in an A-Z style, plus you can now use the "Find" on swaps/wants (including "list all" by leaving the box blank)

Over 200 wants/swaps

Alan T, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah, Alan...I'm having trouble logging in...think I might have forgotten my password! (I bought South of Heaven, so I need to take it off my list)

jel --, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, sorry about that jel, you and three other early subscribers (martinsk, popshots75 and carrie) had their password file go mental (err, ok, it was my fault entirely, too too stupid to relate). check yr e-mail.

Alan T, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can you add a comments section as to why you want to swap each one? At the moment it sort of implies "Not actually much cop, you don't really want this."

Graham, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't think a comment per swap would be wanted, but if you want to make some general remarks, there is the "profile" text that you can edit. I sort of expected people to write things like "actually a couple of quid will do me for each of these" or somesuch.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alan did you get my email re your swaps?

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no, check yr e-mail now.

Alan T, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

IT WORKS! Thanks Mr Dods! Your CDs are in the post as of this morning, and I just got yours.

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If the new swaps beature linked to the current computer or the current user? Will I get the same stuff again if I log in at home?

Graham, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's based on a cookie (i.e. local to the machine), rather than data on the server against the user. sorry. seemed like a good simple bonus feature.

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alan, did you see the bonus cd I included?

Billy Dods, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

there are 2cds in the SFA single box. what's the other one?

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought you were selling yourself short on the swap so I burnt the album too.

Billy Dods, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

cha! Being RIAA approved I will buy the damned thing if I really like it. oh yes.

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And I meant to add: THANKS! I'm just gobsmacked that it (the site, swapping, etc) worked. It was easy --- TOO EASY. :-)

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But no one wants my Neds Atomic Dustbin collection! wah! :(

jel --, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Huzzah! Got yr cd's this morning Alan. Will wait till it starts raining before I listen to Arab Strap.

Billy Dods, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Starry, if you send me the Le Tigre album I shall pop a crisp fiver (+ p&p, probably in stamp form like in Jennings) in the post. You have my address, no?

Mark C, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it's Sarah who wants Le Tigre (or maybe I'm missing something important).

Anyway, I've just entered my first 12 "Will Swaps" - I've included some stuff I'd be sorry to part with but rarely listen to, not just duds.

Jeff W, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

almost 300 reckids now (and there have been things deleted due to actual SWAPS happening, so WAHEY!)

Alan T, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So I've now found I have 2 copies of that Hefner LP (I found a promo sampler in a bag of unsellable stuff I got). Starry help me.
