so, where have you been out in the last week?

gareth, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to the Curzon cinema on Monday to a talk by some film directors and producers. On Sunday I went to Brentford to play football.

jel --, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to the local pub last night because one of my friends broke up with his girlfriend of two years. So I had a pint or something and he seemed in good form, considering. We tried to get a healthy mix of mockery and sympathy going, most of it centred around the fact that he brought her out with us TWICE during the whole two years. It's like we've all lost a little part of ourselves. ha.

We also watched the European Cup which was mildly entertaining and then on the way home we found a massive Christian Solidarity Poster and thought about funny things we could do to it before leaving it on the Fine Gael TDs doorstep. We don't usually go in for petty thuggery, honestly.

Ronan, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

To the Mitre and Three Goats Heads pubs here in oxford on Tuesday and then last nite my girlfriend and I went to the cinema to see Bend it Like Beckham, after which we went to another pub (the Crown) which we discovered, had just been repainted so it had that distinctive, disagreeable paint smell.

MarkH, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Last night: pub for jazz band and discussion of life choices, Buffy, The West Wing and Peter Cook
Tuesday: Safeway
Monday: sofa

Conclusion: I = rock n roll

Archel, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

He was pretty damn good though accompanied by a pedal loop machine thing which fucked up a few songs IMHO. But I heart him. In fact I am just writing a review of the gig now.

Archel, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

a wine bar (YES A WINE BAR) on new oxford street w couple of friends last thu, then movie in Leicestercestershire square w ex-g-friend on fri (About a Boy -- do not bother), Bournemouth for the madness of a family gathering on sat, went to B&Q on sunday in lieu of CANCELLED drinks with date-girl (does this count as "out"??)

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Tuesday night we went out to dinner with a friend to celebrate his birthday (35!) to a new Morroccan restaurant on Washington St called The Red Fez. It was very, very good.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

No Such Place is one of the only non techno/house CDs that has got in my bag/discman for about 6 months.

Ronan, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, Wrong-Eyed Jesus is even bettah!

Archel, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

So I hear, I'll get it in London, it's about 300 euro over here. Well, 27 or something last time I saw it.

Ronan, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I have not left the house for days. Except that emergency chocolate run.

alix, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to a bachelor party last night.

Sean, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't that for the guy having the hippie wedding on the beach you were fearing?

Last night out...start of the month, I think. Does hanging around in line for A Certain Movie tonight count? If not, then next time will be Wednesday.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, Saturday went out to the WONDERFUL haha brand spanking new WINCHESTER CLUB to see TOP BANDS and TOP DEEJAYS. And had, of course, TOP FUN. That's about it unless you count football on Tuesday with pathetic pop star count. V. poor.

Ally C, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

This place called the Atrium which is billed as the Ibiza of Worcester Massachusetts last saturday night without the gf's. Good eye candy, 5 bars in one area. One hip-hop, one rock, one outdoors with techno, one martini bar with sinatra and such and one with top 40. Spent a majority of the night outisde in the techno area watching girls dance and bobbing my head. By the end of the night I was on a platform dancing my ass off.

Chris, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

also got pissed at the DJ who was some old ass joker, with really annoying crowd play. I asked him to play me the Avalanches and he bit my head off "We don't play that SHIT here!" So needless to say I won't be going back to this place, except maybe to hit the hip hop bar, because the rock bar was Creed, Kid Rock, Shit Bizkit and all other townie crap.

Chris, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't that for the guy having the hippie wedding on the beach you were fearing?

Well they're not hippies and it's the after-wedding party that's on the beach, but yes. I was hoping to network myself into a ride down there, since everyone I know is going to the wedding and will already be down in the Santa Cruz area already. I wasn't able to meet anyone; even some guy who said he hadn't spoken to the groom-to-be in over a year was going, which makes me wonder why I wasn't. Since almost all my friends in San Francisco will be there, it will look very very bad if I don't show up, but short of taking a train down there (I'm assuming I can take a train), and then hoping someone can pick me up from there (it's not in Santa Cruz, only a small town near there, and a cab would cost a fortune), I'm not sure how I'm going to make it. A girl I'm acquainted with is supposedly in the same boat, so maybe we can rent a car together (I can't on my own since I don't have a driver's license)... if not my name will be mud. But it's not my fault! *cries*

Sean, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Last night to bar-slash-dingy-screening-room for a DJ night. Gal Pal Donna and I got buybacks from the bartender, danced a little, commented on the crowd, but alas the place went dead early. So I was on the train by 2am. Just a little mid-week fun.

Pyth, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I went out with a friend. Got drunk on one rhum. And the end result could be seen on TV.

cuba libre (nathalie), Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

prom last saturday. other than that it's been "oh shit ap exam friday study study study."

Maria, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

As some of you may have noticed, I was at the meet last night, and indeed the one on Sunday.

The day before that (Saturday, for the calendar-impaired) I was out with some of my oldest friends 'because' (excuse as much as reason) a friend was visiting from the wild frozen wastes up North (technically: Sheffield). We went to a pub called The Blue Posts off Oxford Street and I wound up a Spurs fan - I did some of that last night, with someone I firmly believe to have been the Pinefox. The Pinefox, in contrast to the other Spurs fan, did not seem ready to explode and stab someone at any second, though obv you never know, he seemed so quiet, etc., etc., so I didn't bother continuing the wind- up.

Tonight I had a date. A very nice woman who works with Sir Richard Rogers, one of my favourite architects of all time (I only found this out at the end of tonight's meeting - it wasn't why I went out with her). We had made contact through a cyberdating site, and this was our first real meeting. We separated at 8pm, but she does have a 7am flight to Venice tomorrow, so that may not be terribly significant.

Martin Skidmore, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Three different concerts (Q and Not U; Les Savy Fav; John Vanderslice) in five days, all at the Black Cat. Clearly I live in the wrong section of DC.

j.lu, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

last night i went to arc and saw some free noise. bruce russell did a knob-twiddly solo set. then russell, kim pieters and peter stapleton did a set. i thought all of it was boring, except perhaps for stapleton's drumming.

di, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been to the same bar 4 times in 3 days - does this make me alcoholic and sad? It's to the point where Tracer went to order my drink for the evening, which was an unusual choice for me, and the bartender was like, for who, there's only the two of you right? So he's like, for Ally, hello, and he's like, uh, no, that's not what she drinks.

Ally, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

when i was 21, it was a very good year...

ally, do live upstairs, and have curls in your hair?

Geoff, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to the Red Sox v. Athletics game last night and today I feel like something that fell out of a tall cows ass.

Chris, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

went to the 24 hour book sale. bought some stuff.

unknown, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Last night - Upstairs At The Garage. Kaito were playing and my girlfriend's band were DJing (heh heh and I DJed too - I played Visage and Hollywood and Kylie and and and...)

jamesmichaelward, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I live upstairs from someone, if that helps.

Ally, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, when i'm 35 will you be a girl of independent means? I'll bring the limo.

Geoff, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Turk's "House in the Trees" (swank place overlooking Cannon Beach and the Pacific Ocean), with 11 friends:

http://www.clatsop.com/turkslodging/house.html

Guess it's as close as I'll ever get to being on The Real World (except it was fun)...

Joe, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

last night i went to arc and saw the futurians and the snares play. they were both wikked, although i'm sure the futurians would have been more energised-sounding if their drummer had been there. then i went to the 24hr booksale and got some records for a pittance.

di, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a 22 year old of independent means, bring the bloody limo now

Ally, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

no can do, ally. It's gonna take me 8 years to be able to afford to hire the limo - that's why I was giving you so much time to get ready.

Geoff, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Last night at the Doowop. They played a lot of Hip Hop and R&B. I couldn't hear myself talk (good thing) nor my friend (bad thing). I drank water. (A bad thing). I don't have a hangover. (A good thing.) I never notice women coming in alone in bars. Why is that?

cuba libre (nathalie), Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

very sadly, i have to admit that i went to the monarch last night (oi, rickyt! shush!), i have a terrible hangover

gareth, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

So do I, I can't drink anymore. Bah TONIGHT IS FOR MUSIC. Last night was merely the pub.

Ronan, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Thursday night - went to Indian restaurant with boyfriend. Yummy food.

Wednesday night - after helping set up a Grand Final for a law mooting competition, went to the after-final drinks at a place called Phoenix (nice seventies motif), which doubled as my birthday drinks as my two charming friends/colleagues Catherine and Anna bought me about six rounds of cocksucking cowboys and quickfucks. Stumbled home at 4pm, was back at uni for a meeting by nine.

Tim, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

you moot? I used to moot, back in my high school scotch-drinking days. Full on. What's mooting like these days?

I may not dress like Jacki O, but I do fuck men, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I admit it can take me a while to get ready sometimes, but I don't need 13 years, damnit.

Ally, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

last night i went to a cocktail party.

di, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Geoff: 2 days of utter stressfulness every time you compete, although if you team up with someone you like/can work with it's usually a lot of fun. My partner-in-crime made it into the quarter- finals, but as she's one of the Education Officers in the Monash student union and is running an enormous program teaching English to Temp. Visa Holders (she's a v. busy girl) we had to pull out. The grand final was in the Supreme Court though with v. scary judges, so I'm kinda glad we didn't try to go all the way through.

But: you did mooting in high school? How did you manage that? Or was it different to the strict skillz0r basis (eg. law) of the mooting I know/love?

Tim, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

For once, I think I'm finally NOT going to go out... even if it's a Saturday night... On second thought.... hmmmm.

Brian MacDonald, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Last night out was Saturday, senoir prom with free beer followed by student bar, with more beer dancing and pure rage that they wouldnt play Spirit Of The West or The Pogues. Went to afterhours party, was drinking chocolate liquor, pretending to watch tv for the sake of her roomates.
Damm I hate the suburbs, if I cant stumble home then its not worth it sometimes.

Mr Noodles, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

learnt Backgammon down at the Simple life bar, ruled at pool, stupidly drank beer, had half a joint, chucked a massive whitey and spent an hour throwing up! Other than the last bit it was a great night, met some lovely people from Reading (I know, I didn't think it possible either!)

chris, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just out at a bar where some girl touched my butt. It was very flustering. If that's not a word, it should be.

bnw, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally - it's only till I'm 35, not you - eight years isn't too long to hold out for is it? I mean, you'll have champagne, and I can wear bobo sunglasses and throw monopoly money at passers by from the sun roof - 8 years of patience and abstinecne is all I ask.

Tim - mooting was a yearly thing in high school, run by bond uni - a team of three (queens, junior and ass clerk) would argue against each other in front of three judges. there were rounds of it, and eventually the finals at obnd uni each year. We never made the finals, but I have ridiculous memories of a law camp run for young students and staying in the hotel at bond, escaping the unsupervised conference and heading to the beach, then returning to the hotel with 4 bottels of scotch and passion pop and somehow finding myself later that night in the bond lakes looking for the body of a hotel mate who'd disappeared, except she wasn't dead, but in the bathroom trying to drown herself later on as Bette Middler sung the Rose.

I may not dress like Jacki O, but I do fuck men, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I was having a good night just now, playing Backgammon for a while and then playing pool like a demon (I'm usually rubbish but I was doing really well) Until I lost after about 6 games and one of the few beery typical brits abroad on the island said "thank fuck that fucking bum boy's lost" how charming. Other than that it was great, he was just sore cos I nearly seven balled him anyway, showing him up in front of his Thai girlfriend.

chris, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha bum boy.

Last night I went round to a friend's for dinner and then came back and played Timeplitters with my flatmate till half three in the morning which was v.stupid.

N., Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Timeplitters a sex game, Nick?

Emma, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

YOU MUST NEVER SPEAK OF THAT.

N., Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

HA HA HA HA.

My last proper night out (not counting bowling & pizza on Saturday which doesn't count as we were back at Steve's by 9:30) I came back from with a badge saying 'I Love Golden Showers'. I am never going to a gay club again, I was wondering why the men in McDonalds were sniggering at me then got home & realised the badge had sneaked out from under my belt.

Emma, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

har. ooo, bowling. i haven't been bowling for ages. i wanna go bowling. now that i made a rub mess of karaoke, my new obsession will be to go bowling ASAP. is there still one at finsbury park. there's still one in queensway, but that's a bit pants.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

It was indeed Rowans at Finsbury Park. I really didn't want to go but foolishly mentioned it as an option & got dragged there. Then to my infinite surprise I didn't lose the first game! But totally lost it in the second and was crap oh well.

Emma, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally I'm surprised that the bartender Juston or Jackson or whatever his name was would betray your confidence like that. You almost had me believing you drank exotic vodka tonic cocktails on a regular basis.

I played records at a surprisingly enormous party Saturday and it didn't really get "tore up" until three drag queen friends of Stephane arrived - Peppermint, G.G., and Ginger - and started pushing people out of the way telling them "you're standing in the catwalk, honey". I put on "Preacher Man" by Green Velvet and things got real nasty real quick. Peppermint came over and very charmingly demanded I play some hip hop. I was like "I've got some Eve" and she's like "yeah but you played that one already I think" and then "Li'l Kim?" "No" "Well if you don't play any hip hop I'm going to leave" and I'm like I don't want you to leave!!!! So they went back to Nicole's room for awhile and I found it: the holy grail of drag queens everywhere - Buffalo Stance - I ran back to show them and Peppermint squeals to G.G. "that's your song!! you've got to do something to that, you've got to dance." They did, and we did, for many hours. I didn't even fight with Emma B!!

classic request, this during the quiet early evening part where no one's really dancing yet: "do you have any like, 70s disco?" WHILE ESG IS PLAYING. I mean, I knew what she meant, but REALLY.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

best request I got all night: "MORE"

when I woke up Marty and Laura (in from Columbus Ohio and in whose honor the party had been thrown) had already been out and gotten QUICHE from BALTHAZAR for everyone.... there was a man asleep on the couch that no one knew the name of and when Nicole finally woke up she realized this and was like "glad you had a comfy night DAVID" and we all relaxed a bit... he turned out to be very nice and far more alert than he had any right to be, and he clued me in to the phenomenon of GAY CIRCUIT PARTIES... they sound awful. He said he had spent the last two months in Miami basically avoiding that scene and spending as much time on the beach as possible. Wow, rough life.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

One more thing to add, my favorite thing from that nite. Almost everyone's gone home, we're sort of lolling around, Marty's in control of the turntables, and these people arrive, three dudes and like 4 girls who couldn't have been out of their teens, all sort of slicked up cheap-style. We're a little annoyed. The girls go back towards the bedrooms and Nicole goes after them like they're wayward cats. She later learns one of the guys owns a restaurant and that she kindasorta is supposed to know him so she doesn't kick them out. This only increases our annoyance. Marty puts on "Wood Beez" and one of the dudes, wearing polar fleece and a white baseball cap (= fraternity brother) starts dancing around like mad, turns to me mid whirl and goes "Scritti Politti is the SHIT!" and in my eyes all was forgiven.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i really need a good nite out really soon. make it so, ile.

mitch lastnamewithheld, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally I'm surprised that the bartender Juston or Jackson or whatever his name was would betray your confidence like that. You almost had me believing you drank exotic vodka tonic cocktails on a regular basis

Dude, I do, just not at that bar. That's more of a "beer and chicken fingers bar" if you get what I mean. And his name is Jeremiah, I've decided. It's not really but it's as good as any other "J" name now innit?

And I am soooo pissed off at you, you tell me this lame ass story about how no one is coming to the party because of this one dude and it's going to suck blah blah blah, and in reality it's enormous and full of transvestites? What the fuck? If I knew about that, I would've totally come, weird non-stop month long puking or not. Drag queens love me, and I love them. We would've had the best night ever. I had on the best outfit too, and then I had to go puke all over the place, I was really annoyed, but if I knew about this whole enormous-drag-queen-crazy-people-rave-extravaganza going on, I would've puked in the cab on my way down, jesus.

Pffff, that's me trusting your judgement ever again! When you say a place is gonna be really great, it sucks or is closed. When you say it's gonna be empty and crap, it's great. I AM DEFINITELY COMING TO THE NEXT PARTY YOU KNOW. Oh, does Stephanie still live downstairs with the crazy goth girl? I wonder if her internet boyfriend still lives with her there.

Ally, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes you should come to the next one. It's going to be good. *whistles idly* Stephanie totally came upstairs! Well before anything had begun. She was wearing a tiara. I warned everyone to keep an eye on her, but she went away and never came back. Maybe because I told her you were coming?

Tracer Hand, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

You totally made that up about Stephanie, didn't you?

Ally, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Which do you mean? No, it's all true. If I wanted to make something up about Stephanie I would come up with something more bonkers than that. This is the girl, after all, who throws bowls of food out 4th- floor windows, tells lies about you, and kisses strangers whilst sober. I hardly think a tiara tips the scales of believability. I was disappointed actually; I was looking forward to seeing what damage she could inflict on herself. Maybe she had a secret ceremony to attend downstairs or something. I firmly believe she's the "virgin" that gets "sacrificed" on a weekly basis down there in those goth digs under Nicole's place.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

sigh, i wish i was in new york, it sounds much cooler than here...

gareth, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

tracer that "virgin" is me, except i am a ""virgin""

mark s, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Excuse me while I perform the heimlich menuever on myself due to choking on my orange after laughing reading the words "Stephanie" and "virgin" in the same sentence. If you only knew the verbal torture I had to go through after the last guy that she slept with when I lived with her - full on description of his, um, manhood, which apparently resembled a "cat tail" and/or "something off a newborn".

AND THEY DID IT IN MY HOUSE WHILE I WAS IN AMHERST, ARRRRGH. If I knew they had done in my couch like that prior to doing it myself, I'd have gotten rid of the bloody thing. And don't get me started on that crazy ass waiter she was seeing who left long voicemails singing "Light My Fire" and telling her she belonged to him, and he was sick of her crazy games, "little girl" - after two freaking dates. And there's always the time she let my stalker in the house...I mean of course I ended up sleeping with him but then we ditched him the next morning.

Ally, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

tart!

Tracer H and, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

You never went to the book snob thread and answered my query about insufferable cunts, so between that and this, I shall never forgive you.

Ally, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I was thrown by the idea that unspecified men are sending you inscripted Kafka hardcovers in the mail. It seems creepy.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

*looks up from applying calligraphy to The Trial* I'm sorry, what?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Hem-hem the Yanks and the English are seperated by more than the ocean eh Armand?

goriller of 3b, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe it is creepy, but it's more than my own family besides my mom got me for my birthday.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

GRAHAM!

The best jokes are the ones you beat into a fine paste, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm, I had a bucket last night, basically a childs bucket that has a small bottle of Thai whisky in it, then a bottle of teh very strong red bull, topped up with coke. I really do feel quite rough this morning. Good fun though

chris, Thursday, 23 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i was supposed to go out but David is stuck in the office

anthony, Thursday, 23 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

WENT TO SOME LAME-O CLUB SUNDAY EVENING TO SEE AN EVEN LAMER COVER BAND AND PROCEEDED TO GET THROWN OUT FOR YELLING OUT MY REQUEST FOR "MORE THAN A FEELING" AFTER EVERY SONG THEY PLAYED. ON MY WAY OUT THE DOOR WHILE BEING ESCORTED BY THE BOUNCER I TOLD HIM NOT TO PUSH ME OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE TO "HULK UP". I FELT LIKE POO, THE NEXT MORNING.
