Nicole, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Try looking inside the sandwich toaster EEW.

Graham, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, my brain is being haunted by v. silly commercials. It serves me right for watching the Daily Show.

Nicole, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Momus to thread!!!

Tom, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What is this commercial for?

Tom, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pizza Hut, of course.

And feature a smarmy little girl begging for more cheese on her pizza.

Nicole, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hello my name is Cheese Cheese-y

jel --, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Blimey, there's cheese ON the pizza, cheese IN the pizza crust, where else is there for cheese? I'm not surprised we're all becoming obese.

Emma, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so, at UK pizza huts do they have those black&white/sepia-tinted photos of olde worlde i-talian grandmas making their dough and picking their tomatos? what about video games that are 4-7 years out of date? do they have the "book it!" reading program, which was almost designed for fat, smart children like myself? god, i love pizza hut.

jess, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"We are all made of cheese..."

Dan Perry, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ask for the new cheese-stuffed pepperoni topping.

Ms. S., Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i miss the Priazzo

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not surprised we're all becoming obese.

Visit America sometime and your surprise will lessen.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

...it runs away from broken lives

Tim, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jess, that sounds like no Pizza Hut I've ever been to over here. Mind you last time I was in one I was about 16 and with my school friends attempting to dazzle them with my amazing speed eating (i.e. eating quickly, I wasn't guzzling drugs) as I polished off my last slice as they were half way through the second one. Ph34r my eating speed etc.

Pizza Hut Rewards Reading Achievement

When a child meets a monthly reading goal, the teacher gives him or her a Pizza Award Certificate. The child brings the certificate to a participating Pizza Hut® restaurant, where he or she is given a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza®.
The restaurant manager congratulates the child for meeting his or her reading goal and, on the first visit, presents the child with a colorful BOOK IT! button and a sticker for the button to recognize reading achievement. On each subsequent visit, the child is rewarded with more praise, another Personal Pan Pizza® and a button sticker.. If a child meets the reading goals in all six months, he or she qualifies for the Reader's Honor Roll, a classroom record of achievement signed by the principal and teacher. The child also receives a BOOK IT! All-Star Reader Medallion with neck ribbon at Pizza Hut.
All program materials and rewards are free of charge to teachers and schools enrolled in the program. No purchase is required at the restaurant, and the pizza may be taken to go.

yeah, it's kind of noxious in an "american kids are fat enough" sort of way, but "at least they're reading at all now..."
(pizza hut is intensely nostalgic for me because sat. lunches there are among the only good memories i have of my dad.)

jess, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

where have all the italics gone?

jess, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, that's creepy!

Sarah, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Although I am quite small myself and I think I could easily con them into giving me a free pizza if I put my hair in bunches. I got an underage bus ticket once when I had hair in bunches/white tights/kilt on and I hadn't even arsked.

Sarah, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wonder how big THE fattest child could be...

Sarah, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If I got a pizza every time I read a book I would read a lot more. But I am a grown up and do not have to read and have money to buy my own pizzas whenever I like mwahahahahaha. Oh god the salad bar in Pizza Hut = terrifying bodily fluid samples + botulism ahoy.

Emma, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

but, but...chow mein noodles and bac-o bits!!

jess, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think we ever had noodles, just sweetcorn & beetroot & rubbish croutons. And all with extra kiddie snot & bacteria. Num.

Emma, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jess are you the ONE person on those questionnaires you send to your fwends who on the Bacon Bits or Croutons questions sez Bacong Bitz?

Sarah, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i only like the ones that look/taste like little crumbly bits of bacon not the hard boogers-on-your-headboard sort.

jess, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They should give kids a free book when they eat in Pizza Hut, not a free pizza when they read a book! Now I SEE what is wrong with America!

Archel, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Rejected Momus Pizza Hut commercial available here.

Momus, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

BEST LINK EVER, Momus!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese all over the worrrrrld

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And all over this room: http://www.cosimocavallaro.com/pics/full/cheese_room1.j pg

Honda, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Or, "The Motel Room/Porn Studio After a Peter North Cameo."

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I relinquish the title of Very Bad Man to Ned. Not even Kathy McGinty on repeat can win it back.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Uuuuhgh *shudder*

Norman Phay, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you bring it, i'll cut it.

Geoff, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ironically the commercial music sounds nothing like Basement Jaxx either; the commercial itself has a very tacky quality that (unintentionally, I think) brings to mind commercials of the 80s.

Nicole, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I relinquish the title of Very Bad Man to Ned.

You seem to almost want to hand it over with great force and haste.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

steve martin: did you ever wonder where all the farts go??

Ron, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I spent a very long time trying to figure out why this song sounded so familiar to me and I never got it. I eventually saw an ad right after the Pizza Hut one using BTO's "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" and decided this was similar enough to satisfy me. But what is the origin of this Pizza Hut song?

Vinnie, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that's quite funny. Momus tries to copy Basement Jaxx and the result is Bachman Turner Overdrive...

michael, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know what my write-in focus group entry's gonna be!

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That is the funniest most ridiculous thing I've heard in years. It's not even "good" enough for any ad, it really isn't, apologies.

Ronan, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How does that Momus link work? (there appears to be nothing obvious to click)I wanna hear!

jel --, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's gorn. Ronan, you should have been nice.

Graham, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Momus appears to have removed the link. Aww. I'll mail it to ya, Jel, if ya like! (also, you nevah sent me details re: ilx compilation album artwork, is it still on or what?)

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Sunday, 19 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah Mitch...send it to me please...I'll e-mail you my top secret e- mail address! Thanks!

...the ILX comp is still on. I was just sorta waiting to get tracks together before I sent out the email about artwork etc. But, please do contribute something! :) (that goes for Ethan and Kim too!) Also, sorry to anyone who is waiting for the address to send music to...I'll email them this evening...I'll post an update thread at the weekend.

jel --, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nice schmice, Momus is a professional musician, I'm sure he can handle criticism from the likes of me. I won't hold it against him permanently if that's any consolation.

Ronan, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)
