George Lucas' best film?

bryan, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes. Classic. Troubling news about those animated bunnies he's inserting for the special DVD though. Word has it he thinks the film as it stands is "kind of a bummer".

I'd say "YES!!1!" but I don't think I've ever seen any other George Lucas production. Still, THX-1138 is an absolutely ace fillum. Dystopian like Brade Lunnel but with the design sensibility of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Totally, totally classic.

THX-1138 is a gorgeous film. Why would Lucas ruin certain parts of the film by inserting fake looking digital animated bunnies? Of course, it's "his" movie, and he can rightfully do as he pleases, but WTF? Touch it up at most, but the "quality of the film" is one reason the movie so beautiful to me. I like its pre- digital "vision" of the future.

I think digital bunnies should be inserted into every movie!

Sterling they ARE. But they're usually hiding behind something.

two years pass...
I watched the DVD version and whatever fears one might have about Lucas tinkering with the original are unfounded; the whole thing looks amazing. The "bunnies" aren't that distracting, nor are the CGI cityscapes. The movie still looks like a parking garage.

wait, where did he put bunnies in the film? that is fucking random and hysterical.

haha despite my lame one-time-only use of the winky-face up there, i still have very high hopes for this great rumour

jones (actual), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

it'd be great, but he really just replaced the hairy midgets that attack THX near the end of the film with CGI monsters.

sexyDancer, Friday, 10 September 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

is the original available (maybe as an extra on the dvd)?

it was a good little film and i'm suspicious of all this tampering with things to make them modern. they'll be remaking tron next.

oh, wait...

The student film in on there, duct tape and all.

sexyDancer, Saturday, 11 September 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, i meant the feature developed from the student film (which is a short, i think, that i haven't seen)

Best seen on TV late at night without knowing much about it in advance.

Haha! OTM, the one time I did see it was under that circumstance and while I knew of it I knew little about it, so my mind was pleasingly squished.
