I'm 30.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

I am cheerful and have a sense of humor. People usually like me just fine, but I can only take limited amounts of socializing before I run out of steam. This makes me a classic introvert-with-decent-social-skills.

Aimless, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 18:11 (seventeen years ago)

I am 30, white btw and big in Laos

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 18:12 (seventeen years ago)

I entertain people at parties & get invited to a lot of them but I think that's more "I am a jackass when I'm drunk" than "I'm popular."

i'm shy (Abbott), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 18:23 (seventeen years ago)

daer popular people, don't let it go to your MASSIVE HEADS

I have had no guests in my apartment in 7+ months.

I have asked no one to my apartment in 7+ months.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:07 (seventeen years ago)

you don't have to lift up your skirt to be popular, dr

Surmounter, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:08 (seventeen years ago)

I now wish to own a Ford Popular.

My mother once told me about the time when she was driving back from somewhere in a Ford Popular with some friends, and the car's headlights were so dim that they had to hold a flashlight out of the window.

snoball, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:11 (seventeen years ago)

And I had a similar experience in a Ford Fiesta Popular on the way back from Brighton, except no-one had a flashlight and we were nervously joking that we were all going to die while bombing down a packed dual carriageway in the pouring rain listening to "Ace of Spades" through one speaker.

snoball, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:12 (seventeen years ago)

dont mean to brag but i'm a bigshot hollywood producer basically my life is nothing but parties with swedish models and ppl wanting to be my friend

Lamp, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:14 (seventeen years ago)

But they don't really want to be your friend, surely you realise that? They just want your industry connections and coke stash.

i dont know if youve seen previews for the tnt show "trust me" starring will and grace and the guy from ed but its based on my life with lamp as a hot shot hollywood producer

I feel tolerably popular; not the most sought after but hardly the most shunned.

It is not enough to love mankind – you must be able to stand (Michael White), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:18 (seventeen years ago)

once i was so popular, i shot a guy for no reason, and no one cared, in fact, they made up reasons, for why the guy had to be shot

max, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:19 (seventeen years ago)

I'm throwing a party at the weekend so I will have a quantified answer to this question in a few days time. And even if I'm disappointed and no one turns up I will still click 'extremely popular' in a fit of feigned arrogance.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:24 (seventeen years ago)

by forgettable i mean like, i think people think i'm aight, but a lot of times it's like 'are you going to xxx?' and i'm like 'uh no bc this is the first i've heard of it!' or ppl will say 'oh we had a great time at xxx' and i'm like 'jeez guys thanks for inviting me!'

class act, thanks bro (tehresa), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:27 (seventeen years ago)

i like to bring weird groups of people totgether, not romantically, just socially, sometimes thats the most fun, combining friends from a lot of different places

yah i really like this both as a host and a guest. i love going to parties of friends-of-friends where you only know a few ppl its kind of liberating esp in comparison to parties where you already know everyone

Lamp, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

well you know it's an up and down thing tza :P

Surmounter, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

i like both kinds of parties, strangers and friends, for different reasons, but parties with a lot of people i dont know i need to be pretty drunk or ill go to anxiety zone

max, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:36 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, me too!

class act, thanks bro (tehresa), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:36 (seventeen years ago)

but i thought you were like mr. smooth PR person?

Surmounter, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:36 (seventeen years ago)

actually, if it's too many people i don't know i probably end up skipping it.

class act, thanks bro (tehresa), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:36 (seventeen years ago)

see i'm on the fence here, cuz i go to anxiety zone but it becomes a challenge and if i don't go to that party i get upset

Surmounter, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

its different when its work-related, i feel weirder going up and introducing myself to people i dont know socially than i do calling people for a specific job reason... even so the gladhanding sales bit of PR is the thing i hate most about my job and the #1 reason i want to get the f out of PR

max, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

i think w/ pr and stuff like that it's different because you are in a role with a purpose and people expect you to be communicative, not like, stuck being yourself!

Lots of praying with no breakfast! (HI DERE), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

i feel weirder going up and introducing myself to people i dont know socially than i do calling people for a specific job reason

i'm kind of the exact opposite. i don't hate the glad-handing stuff about pr - which is good becuz it's a big part of my job - but i always feel deeply anxious about client stuff or talking to analysts because it feels like something is at stake. whereas i kinda dont care what someone's new gf thinks of me

Lamp, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

i feel more anxious calling journalists than talking to clients

max, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

probably because i like the journalists more than the clients, for the most part

max, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

also im 9 months out of college at a bottom-rung position at a job i dont plan to stay in very long so not a lot is at stake for me

max, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

i like to bring weird groups of people totgether, not romantically, just socially, sometimes thats the most fun, combining friends from a lot of different places

absolutely. there is such thrill in the uncharted menagerie.

otoh, sometimes a gathering of about 4 firm friends is just as enjoyable. good to mix these sorts of meetings up.

Mequophidiophobia: fear of the beer snake (country matters), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

So frequently when I go to parties with different groups of people who're supposed to have their minds blown by each other, it's a dismal fail. I like the IDEA of my friends all liking each other but honestly, I would have to hand-pick individuals to be introduced because parties are just not the place. Also, a lot of my friends are haters, but that's to be expected.

i wouldnt invite a bunch of difft friend groups for a tea party or anything for the reasons laurel mentions but for a nighttime small-scale rager its the best when everyone gets wasted and becomes best friends

max, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

moral: meeting people is fun

Surmounter, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

i feel weirder going up and introducing myself to people i dont know socially than i do calling people for a specific job reason

u know what tho it really depends, i hate calling journalists abt some of our clients who i think are basically worthless and dont feel comfortable "selling," and i like meeting new people at parties when i feel like i bring something to the table... mostly i just hate putting myself out there when i feel like i dont have anything to back it up, whether its a good sellable story/product/client or a body of knowledge or sense of humor that contributes to shit

max, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

^^ this. i don't like large parties, i get anxious around large groups of ppl i don't know, i get anxious meeting new ppl... but i'm essentially pretty good at being friendly/getting conversation going when i'm dealing with customers, and it's why i've done 'well' at being a waitress/retailperson

So frequently when I go to parties with different groups of people who're supposed to have their minds blown by each other, it's a dismal fail.

as a host or w/e u have to be selective... i def have friends that are just naturally suspicious of anyone they don't already know but i think most of my friends vibe meeting new ppl so

Lamp, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 20:10 (seventeen years ago)

naturally suspicious of anyone they don't already know

How can there be male ladybugs? (Laurel), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 20:11 (seventeen years ago)

i may not be the most extroverted person but i think i must have "CONFIDE IN ME AND TELL ME ABOUT YOUR LIFE" tattooed on my forehead because this always happens to me at parties

obi don quixote (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

omg ditto

Surmounter, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

the key to introducing friends from different circles is to keep the gathering small and force interaction -- sit-down dinners are really good for this, since people can't huddle in their own groups of compatriots. but sometimes you just have a birthday and everyone shows up and the chemistry just works and that is the magical moment when you know for sure that you are totally popular

obi don quixote (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

i love introducing different groups of friends - true that people don't always hit it off but this rarely has a negative impact on me, and more often the results are A+ and everyone's social circle increases

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 20:42 (seventeen years ago)

i think my deal is that i enjoy talking to anyone, especially if they're particularly enthusiastic about their interests, or impulsive with their conversation, and that i'm extroverted enough to basically approach people without trepidation. generally i've been pretty popular among real-life circles for these reasons...i've certainly been very widely-known at school, university etc.

also, here's hoping that after my erykah conversion lex actually says hello to me next time ;-)
