It's just a couple of reporters talking. But I think it'd make a good sample.

Wait, when did this become a crime? All those whiners going on about how you were going to be criminalised for picking your nose in BlairBrown's Britain, were they right all along?
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 17:19 (seventeen years ago)
it's pretty fucking reckless. It's the middle of a shopping precinct or something? He'd totally take out a toddler or whatever if he bumped in to them.

When I was young, I thought all the SKATEBOARDING IS NOT A CRIME kids were way-cool and totally right, straight up until one of them started telling me it was unfair that he couldn't skateboard in the mall.
― nabisco, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 18:26 (seventeen years ago)
The problem for local authorities is that if they don't take this fellow to court what's to stop everybody skating around and then someone gets hurt and everyone is all WHY DIDN'T THE COUNCIL STOP THIS MENACE!

I'm more creeped out by the controllable, "follow the menace" cctv cams they have everywhere in the UK now (and probably here, too, tbh)

CCTV in Australia catching up UK from what I understand. It's an interesting subject which is not given proper debate. In my village there is overwhelming support for CCTV in the village centre and park to stop perceived anti-social behaviour oftern from the same people who complain about the nanny state and 'Big Brother' speed cameras.
― Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 09:27 (seventeen years ago)

Pick on soft targets to meet targets and ignore the real criminals. Can't be that long until we hear "I am sure the House of Commons will join me in extending a warm welcome to our new Prime Minister Mr Mugabe..." since the way things are going we might as well be in Zimbabwe.

I heard there was a murder going on in the shopping centre at that moment, and the police all saw it, and then arrested the old skater because it meant filling in a shorter form back at the station.

That's how it'll be. Not one big clampdown. Just little bits eroded, one at a time, until we wake up one morning to find bars on our windows.
All for money and all to satisfy the Meejah.

The way it seems to me:
Old man gets arrested for mad skating. People outcry because it is an old man and not a youth. Including the old man himself. Had it been a youth, the people complaining would be "that is how it should be"
― Mark G, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:44 (seventeen years ago)

― Mark G, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:45 (seventeen years ago)
The bylaw is in place because the council are afraid of getting sued by ambulance chasing "victims" and their "solicitors."
The Labour Government is acting like a hard-right Tory Government because they're afraid of the tabloids.
The BBC is destroying itself because it's afraid that the tabloids will slag it off and the Government will cut off its money supply.
Thus is a society progressively crippled by fear.
― Bernard Braden Misreads Stephen Leacock (Marcello Carlin), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:45 (seventeen years ago)
The pavements are so shockingly bumpy in Zimbabwe, the skaters there have a saying, "the way things are going we might as well be in Ormskirk"

The bylaw is in place to stop people being injured by skaters/skateboarders/cyclists. Seems completely sensible to me.
― Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:51 (seventeen years ago)
injured or "annoyed", it says.
― joe, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:53 (seventeen years ago)

I suppose they'll soon start sentencing miscreants to limb amputation to stop them offending again. All for their own protection, of course.

ambulance chasing "victims"
I don't understand this. Why are the ambulances there at all if the victims are well enough to give chase? Or are the ambulances doing the chasing?
― Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 12:06 (seventeen years ago)
the "victims" are on rollerblades, trying to escape "ambulances" which will take them to Gordon Brown's death camps.
― joe, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 12:08 (seventeen years ago)
