― cutty, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 01:08 (seventeen years ago)
i was just thinking about whether there was a thread about this
first ep seemed ok
― s1ocki, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 01:09 (seventeen years ago)
didnt really like this guy in what i've seen him in before but i havent seen foot fist
it's maybe the most inappropriate comedy on tv right now. the cocaine scene last week was out there.
― cutty, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 01:09 (seventeen years ago)
dood he was the best part of pineapple express
yeah he was hilarious in pineapple express, in tropic thunder... his character sucked so it wasn't his fault. the scene in last week's episode when he finds out that he's a chaperone was hilar
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 February 2009 01:11 (seventeen years ago)
ehhhh torrents
― meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 01:15 (seventeen years ago)
ehhhh aight
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 February 2009 01:16 (seventeen years ago)
it's a pretty slow burn but i like it. the second episode was good despite will ferrell. if stiller shows up, i'm bailing.
― Win A Car From Suicidal Tendencies! (jeff), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 01:17 (seventeen years ago)
hahah, the improv scene b/w him and ferrell was kinda painful. dunno why they decided to air it
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 February 2009 01:18 (seventeen years ago)
i liked the 2nd ep more than the 1st. will ferrel was bordering on unfunny tho
― wilter, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 01:18 (seventeen years ago)
as always, curious what the britishes think about this too
― cutty, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 01:19 (seventeen years ago)
liked the bit where he attends the middle school dance on ecstasy
― abominable spirit (latebloomer), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 06:25 (seventeen years ago)

― just sayin, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 08:47 (seventeen years ago)
i thought so
― wilter, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 08:59 (seventeen years ago)
thought this was aight-to-good but have maybe od'd on this kind of thing a little. was surprised by amount of swearing/drugs etc.
― meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 23:07 (seventeen years ago)
they ought to get terence malick to do one.
liked him in Pineapple Express but I don't know about this...basically all through the first episode I kept thinking it was like the middle section of a Will Ferrell movie (the part where the comically unselfconscious and/or redneck athlete thinks his career is over before the big comeback at the end) before I even saw WF's name in the credits. dude seems capable of not jacking WF's schtick but obviously isn't concerned with trying not to.
― big ban theory (some dude), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 23:11 (seventeen years ago)
I like this more than The Fist Foot Way although i'm exactly not sure why. It's definitely not laugh out loud funny, but there's something there.
― Number None, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 23:25 (seventeen years ago)
oh yeah: when i rev'd fist foot way i didn't know about this project, and said something like 'feelin it; it's a bit like a pilot for a series tho'. but they could just as easily have made that situation the basis for a series, and made this one into a film.
― meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 23:30 (seventeen years ago)
not as good as i hoped.
― The Notorious B.Y.O.B. (M@tt He1ges0n), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 23:36 (seventeen years ago)
wow that was dreadful. where the lols at.
― cutty, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 02:32 (seventeen years ago)
Haven't watched the third episode yet, but so far it seems like the redneck version of Kath & Kim - more surreal discomfort than laugh-out-loud lolz.I keep waiting for Andy Daly to completely flip out...
Any scene where he's listening to his own audio book = instant LMAO
― Chris Barrus (Elvis Telecom), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 02:40 (seventeen years ago)
the guy is too hateful imo.
― Jesus Lulz (special guest stars mark bronson), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 15:39 (seventeen years ago)
It really is pretty horrible.

― wilter, Thursday, 5 March 2009 03:10 (seventeen years ago)
i absolutely love this show. the 2nd ep kinda sucked but other than that it's been genius
― autogoblin (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Thursday, 5 March 2009 04:13 (seventeen years ago)
4th ep was solid imo. The band teacher was hilarious for once.
― wilter, Thursday, 12 March 2009 04:24 (seventeen years ago)

― wilter, Thursday, 12 March 2009 05:55 (seventeen years ago)
ok this episode was great. the principals name is the same as my last name. and everyone calls him by his last name. so that's a little weird for me.
the stevie janowski character has gotten more enjoyable. i couldn't take him at the beginning.
― cutty, Friday, 13 March 2009 23:09 (seventeen years ago)
this show is amazing. the will Ferrell Ric Flair impersonation episode kind of sucked and had me worried but the past two have picked right up where the first one left off.
― autogoblin (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Friday, 13 March 2009 23:19 (seventeen years ago)
I put a big Kenny powers quote in a thread on ilm about "Spoonman'" but no one got it
saw the 1st three - its super uneven sometimes in charming way - def potential to get awzom
thought ferrell was hairlarious btw
― ice cr?m, Friday, 13 March 2009 23:41 (seventeen years ago)
what was the farty synth song playing when he showed up at the dance
Ferrell was funny in this last one.
― wilter, Tuesday, 17 March 2009 05:15 (sixteen years ago)
the story about his son walking in on him and his wife having sex was suitably O_o and xD

One of my fave musical moments was riding ATVs in Mexico in slow motion to "Let's Go Everywhere" by Medeski Martin & Wood and there is no video of that online anywhere apparently :(
Never finished watching S4 of this for some reason.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 29 September 2015 16:39 (ten years ago)
mcbride just nails that guy so well. just total south georgia. it's not even a case of 'i know this guy', it's 'i know these guys'. maybe i'm forgetting something but i would have to think this is easily the most underrated hbo show, as hbo comedies go i'd only put larry sanders and maaaybe curb above it (and i LOVE veep and silicon valley).
― balls, Tuesday, 29 September 2015 20:46 (ten years ago)
I do think that S1 dwarfs the other seasons by a fair amount (tho S4 is probably second best iirc)

― balls, Tuesday, 29 September 2015 21:26 (ten years ago)
mcbride and goggins, true redneck gods
surprised at how obscure this turned out to be, when I heard it in the show I assumed it was some late 60s/early 70s country hit but it doesn't look like it's ever even been issued in the US

i've been rewatching this and am p assured in my conviction that seasons 1 and 4 are the absolute best, with 3 and 2 after that, but like even the 2nd one is pretty great, esp the michael pena scenes

― schwantz, Thursday, 10 March 2016 20:09 (ten years ago)
finally got around to this on Prime. first few episodes were grating but I'm glad I read the thread and stuck with it cos it's had me howling since. Kenny popping out the dude's eye. Kenny Powers 'freestyling' on his girlfriend's track. Steve making awkward jizz sound effects, "that's your dick, buttfucking her". Kenny coming onto the field riding a fuckin' donkey.
― Neanderthal, Thursday, 28 July 2016 03:37 (nine years ago)
steve has got to be the most hilariously pathetic character in the history of american television

― Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 July 2016 04:03 (nine years ago)
he played a similar character on the much less funny The Grinder, seems to be his niche.
when he was throwing out gangster lingo in Season 1 was also hilarious. I feel like everybody knows a dude like this that they've tried to put out of their memory.
― Neanderthal, Thursday, 28 July 2016 04:06 (nine years ago)
the scene with a hooker where steve asks about how kenny was in bed has got to be some kind of high/low point.
― wizzz! (amateurist), Thursday, 28 July 2016 04:21 (nine years ago)

― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 28 July 2016 18:21 (nine years ago)
Sudeikis' character was originally supposed to be played by Goggins iirc?
― Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 July 2016 18:24 (nine years ago)
that might not be right, I def read somewhere recently that he was not the first choice
For Mr. McBride’s slick, bowtie-clad nemesis, Lee Russell, the creators turned to Mr. Goggins, a star of “Justified,” “The Shield” and “The Hateful Eight,” who had once auditioned for an “Eastbound & Down” role that went to Jason Sudeikis of “Saturday Night Live.”(As Mr. Goggins recalled of that encounter: “I got to the meeting, and it was me and five ex-‘S.N.L.’ guys. What am I doing here, really?”)
