meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:35 (seventeen years ago)

the one that had the best buffet?

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:41 (seventeen years ago)

it's alright 'cause the historical pattern has shown
how the economical cycle tends to revolve
in a round of decades three stages stand out in a loop
a slump and war then peel back to square one and back for more

bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:41 (seventeen years ago)

Preferred the early stuff. 1797 it is.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:42 (seventeen years ago)

this poll is bananas

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:43 (seventeen years ago)

Everyone should have learnt their lesson in 1637 though.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:47 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, consider the source

xp

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:49 (seventeen years ago)

meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:50 (seventeen years ago)

bananas are made for biting after all

lex pretend, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:54 (seventeen years ago)

1837 is missing from this list. Will you Martin Van Buren apologists never surrender?

velko, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 12:00 (seventeen years ago)

buy me some tulips please

Nathalie (stevienixed), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 12:38 (seventeen years ago)

All these panics need better names. Which ones are Tulips, South Sea and Louisiana? Souk Al-Manakh sounds intriguing

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 12:45 (seventeen years ago)

Tulips is 1637.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

Tulip crash and the South Sea Bubble too classic to leave out, plus whatever shit went down with the Darien (sp?) expedition. I guess the 1929 crash had the best costume design and music.

King Boiled Potato (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 14:53 (seventeen years ago)

im going 1973/74.

i guess i need to lay down the law a bit more with polls. my concept for this was really 'which is most like our present crisis?' and im saying 1973/74.

meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 14:54 (seventeen years ago)

If that's the concept, I'm saying '2008–09 Global financial crisis'

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 14:58 (seventeen years ago)

oh snap

meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 15:00 (seventeen years ago)

Tulips clearly the best; went for dotcom bubble as it was its closest metaphor.

Britpoppage (The stickman from the hilarious xkcd comics), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 15:03 (seventeen years ago)

LOLBJ (Eisbaer), Thursday, 26 February 2009 12:44 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

The Mississippi Bubble had a mastermind named John Law. The Crash of 1929 had Ivar Kruegar, the Match King. The burning question is whether to go for the best real name or the best nickname.

Of the many panics of the 19th century, the Panic of 1873 has the best name for the crash itself, imo. Nice oblong number, 1873.

So many choices!
