drillbit is pretty wack

― meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:35 (seventeen years ago)

so s1ocki, that logic must make FSM the greatest film comedy since Annie Hall amirite

― Dr Morbius, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:36 (seventeen years ago)

probably, that one sounded pretty bad.

im trying to figure out if step bros really was all that or whether it was just nice to see dudes back on form after semi-pro and walk hard, so dire

― quadratrillionaire (sunny successor), Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:36 (seventeen years ago)

yes, bcz Stepbrothers "was GREAT"

say what you mean eh

― Dr Morbius, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:37 (seventeen years ago)

step brothers is genuinely awesome. the guy playing ferrell's actual brother destroys. also their parents.

― meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:37 (seventeen years ago)

it was great! does all my language have to be on some absolute historical, objective scale? cuz if so we're either going to need some new words or i'm going to have to get a lot more long-winded

― s1ocki, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

i mean i had a really fun time at step brothers—a "great" time, if you will—laughed all the way through, really enjoyed it. doesn't mean i'm saying it's as good as annie hall, which is in my top 25 or 10 GOATs, but why should i have to pretend i didn't enjoy it just because there are better movies out there?

― s1ocki, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:42 (seventeen years ago)

― s1ocki, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:49 (seventeen years ago)

Almost voted Zohan for the bit where John Turturro does the advert for the machentachen (definite SP) restaurant but FSM was probably the one I lol'd at most plus was somewhat emotionally involved in the storyline. Step-brothers was awesome the first time I saw it but didn't really much rewatchability.

geez all of these are terrible :-/

― ryan, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:03 (seventeen years ago)

I have seen the unrated Step Brothers, it mainly consists of slightly extended versions of existing bits and a cringe inducing scene where John C. Reilly and the brother's wife hold a conversation with the rest of the family while having sex. You can see why they cut it out.

― Number None, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

step brothers ruled really. i think i liked pineapple express a lot more than most but i have a big soft spot for rogen & franco. maybe it's just that i thought apatow & co had completely exhausted their schtick after forgetting sarah marshall

― A B C, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

yeah im gonna go with Pineapple Express because at least the casual misogyny is in the service of a pretty funny joke.

― ryan, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:05 (seventeen years ago)

where's the misogyny in pineapple express?

― A B C, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:29 (seventeen years ago)

i voted step brothers. yes it's a goofy film, but it's a darn sight better than pineapple express.

― the next grozart, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:33 (seventeen years ago)

FSM, but I need to see Step Bros.

Write-in for Role Models - Rudd, McLovin, generally Apatowy even ifhe wasn't involved.

― sad man in him room (milo z), Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

(role models) > FSM > step bros > pineapple express/drillbit taylor (havent seen either) >>>>> zohan

― k3vin k., Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:53 (seventeen years ago)

lol i thought this thread was about step brothers

i haven't seen stranger than fiction - basically im talking anchorman, old school, blades of glory (<- hilarious), zoolander, wedding crashers cameo, etc etc

― Funky House, M.D. (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:51 (seventeen years ago)

I think Step Bros is pretty on par with most of those (much funnier than Anchorman anyway) but I'm not going to argue with what other people find funny.

― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:52 (seventeen years ago)

don't get me wrong i like ferrell, but in a different type of role?? he maybe the best SNL straight-man since hartman, i just don't understand why everyone likes him playing a shouty man-child at all times

― i'm not going to pay a lot for this muffler (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

step brothers was jump the shark moment in this regard i think

Mostly the first 45 minutes though. It kind of ran out of steam.

come on the acting like a grown man stuff at the end was hilarious

― s1ocki, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:06 (seventeen years ago)

Ferrell was never funny. Not like McLovin'.

― Nurse Detrius (Eric H.), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:12 (seventeen years ago)

Step Brothers was kind of surprisingly hysterical. I do agree it gets flat somewhere in the middle but I think it rebounds sufficiently towards the end. Altogether more laughs than any other Ferrell vehicle that comes to mind and John C. Reilly was funnier than he's probably ever been.

Haters = RONG

"come on the acting like a grown man stuff at the end was hilarious"

I didn't say there were no funny bits at all.

― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:28 (seventeen years ago)

Outtakes for this movie were brilliant (as with most Ferrell movies).

― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:29 (seventeen years ago)

all of these movies except drillbit are on the comcast on demand thingy at the mo

― quadratrillionaire (sunny successor), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:30 (seventeen years ago)

i watched stepbrothers for the first time the other day and the sleepwalking xmas tree scene actually had me laughing and i never laugh out loud at movies

― quadratrillionaire (sunny successor), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:31 (seventeen years ago)

gotta rescreen step brothers but there was amazing stuff, especially from ferrell's brother and his family and his horrible friends. they nail the 'dbags quoting scarface' phenomenon, fer example.

ZOOLANDER LEGACY CLEARLY A SEPARATE STRAIN OF MOVIE COMEDY FROM APATOW CLAN. EVEN IF THE CABLE GUY IS A COMMON PROGENITOR THE RIVER HAS SPLIT

Was this line even in the actual movie? the montage of jenkins repeating it in the extra scenes is hilarious.

― mizzell, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 15:52 (seventeen years ago)

it was the funniest one

Yes, it was. I haven't seen Zohan, but the others I'd rank in the same order as the poll results.

Drillbit Taylor came from a story written by John Hughes under a pseudonym. It's not a bad story, actually, and Owen Wilson is sweet in it, but the laughs are pretty thin on the ground.

― Alba, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

both FSM and PE get better the more you watch them, however, I have seen FSM more because we have the DVD of that (3 times in xmas weekend while entertaining siblings/boyfriend!!) so I voted for FSM. It has a DRACULA MUSICAL in it. Also, my brother learned to play the Russell Brand song on guitar.. I forget exactly how it goes right now but it's the one where he basically wants to be in Sarah?

― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 16:05 (seventeen years ago)

yeah I definitely watched both movies thinking "I like this now, but I'm going to love it once I start watching 10 minutes of it every other day on cable." I thought that about Knocked Up, too, though, and it definitely hasn't had the same replay value for me as, say, 40 Year Old Virgin.
