do you do lunch? i never used to but have got into doing so since moving to london; about once a month my friend C and i take a friday off work, go out for a three-hour lunch and then spend the rest of the day in the pub. the scary thing is how quickly i have gone from never wanting to spend a two-figure sum on a meal to spending over one hundred pounds last friday. ouch.

so, tell me about your favourite restaurants etc etc (you can talk about dinner as well as lunch if you wish).

in fact: going out to dinner vs going out to lunch: FITE!!!

i say lunch wins, but only if you don't have to go back to work for the afternoon.

Quick question.....

Which ILe regular poster frequents a goth pub for lunch??????????

chris, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not the Ben Crouch tavern by any chance! I wonder who that could be who works near there...? I think I retract the suggestion that we do lunch ha ha.

Emma, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If it is not who I think it is then whoever it is just ignore me, I am going mentalist.

Cor the LONDON VAMPYRE SOCIETY meets there I never noticed ahem, whenever I haf been there! NB not for luncheon. Luncheon pubs = Whitehall dross ie Wetherspoons chiz OR THE LAUGHING HALIBUT best chippie evvah (p'raps) down by Victoria Street woo. Can't afford to properly do lunch though I wish I could/anyone else wanted to. Bah.

I AM NOT A GOTH. IT'S JUST RIGHT BEHIND MY OFFICE.

And anyway Chris, you - Mr Food Snob - liked what you ate there. There are other places too, but YOU were the one who picked pub over bar/ cafe.

Anna, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am sorry to ruin the game by getting defensive. But ...

END THIS GOTH WITCH-HUNT MADNESS NOW.

Anna, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But Anna, you look much prettier without all that black shit under your eyes.

Graham, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, someone had to say it..., Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What happened to the nu-goth/ bling-goth movement?

Anna, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We're still as dark and fabulous as ever, Anna.

incidentally tho my LotR meisterwerk is currently circling above the airport behind my GRATE NOISE REWRITE feat. QUEEN OV THE DAMMED and the next episode in the Never-Ending Kogan-Sinkah I-Word Anxiety Thud-Thing, i haf ferreted out an awful lot of info abt IDEAS OF GOTHIC in high lit, low lit, art, architecture, philology and just generally (viz there's a not-bad book by simon schama called NATURE AND LANDSCAPE, which some top pictures in)

Haha it all began when h.walpole's poodle was eaten by a WOLF (this is TRUE!!)

mark s, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I must hold my hand up and say yes, the sausage and mash at that place was lovely indeed. The bar staff, I'm sure would have looked lovely too, if they hadn't had black shit all round their eyes!

chris, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bling Goths are ace of course.

Unless they look like the late Sonny Bono. (*shudders at the memory of the guy who tried to pick her up a few weeks ago*)

j.lu, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry, but a goth who looked like Sonny Bono would be fantastic.

Horrifically scary and wrong, yes, but still utterly fantastic.

Nicole, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Today I actually have black shit all around my eyes. And I just went to Ben Crouch's

Anna, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tee hee, I knew it was Anna.

There is a goth girl who goes to my gym, she works out in a black lace top & never ties back her long black gothy hair. The gym is right opposite the Ben Crouch, maybe she nips in there afterwards....

Emma, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

She probably works there Emma
