Does South London Fancy A Pint?

There does seem to have been an unseemly bias towards north of the river London for previous ILx meet-ups, so in honour of Mr Ewing's recent southerly migration, howzabout having one in dear ol' Sarf Lahndon to benefit its many inhabitants who contribute regularly to this (Streatham) vale of wisdom?

What about sometime next week - maybe Tuesday 28th or Thursday 30th? Perhaps at the Sun and Doves in Camberwell or nearer Clapham/Putney way if that's too easterly for you?

I fully expect zero response to this "ad"!

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tue cool for me, Thur prob not so good (but south london? where's that, like north croydon somewhere?)

mark s, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well on the 28th I am doing something embarrassing for work and will undoubtedly need a pint VERY IMMEDIATELY SOON AFTERWARDS, though it's happening in Central London I think. I will be in a suit, so cheap laughs guaranteed there.

Tom, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Honestly though, Clapham??! How's about Kennington he says selfishly, a useful nexus point for everyone and as I remember from one visit the Doghouse is quite spacious and friendly. Putney might be OK but Clapham is surely to be avoided!

Tom, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

all the same to me (heh)

mark s, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tuesday sounds good to me! Putney would be IDEAL, but Clapham (Junction?) is okay too. Hurrah!

Mark C, Monday, 20 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can probably do either, but prefer 30th. Wd prefer Putney/Clapham, but not too bothered.

Dr. C, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Looks like the 28th at Clapham seems to be the current favourite. The chance of seeing Mr Ewing in a suit makes this to my mind urgent and key.

Any preferred pubs?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Near Clapham Jct station?

Dr. C, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i may make this. i guess the bull & gate does not count as south london?

gareth, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Erm, Gareth, no, not quite.

Clapham Junction should be OK, although I don't know much about the specific pubs there (as opposed to things I do know in Clapham Junction, i.e. Dub Vendor, CD World, Ottokar's bookshop, Arding & Hobbs, etc.).

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have never yet managed to find a good pub in Clapham Junction - I've only tried 3 or 4 times but there you are. However my need for a drink after this Awful Event I'm doing will be so huge I will go to the Goose if I have to.

(NB I am not suggesting the Goose.)

Tom, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is clapham junction anywhere near a tube? or is it trains only?

mark s, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Trains/buses only; rather like Hackney :)

tho' Clapham Common is on the Northern Line.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So - what's happening with this then?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If it's tomorrow, it's looking very dodgy for me. I might be able to make a late appearance, though.

Dr. C, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm still fine

mark s, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was hoping someone might have come up with some other pubs in Clapham Junction that might be any cop. Otherwise it's gonna have to be Ver Goose by default.

(the one at the Junction that is, not the one at the Common).

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait a minute there ISN'T a Goose pub at Clapham Junction!

I assume that the one Tom means is the one on t'Common, round the corner from t'Picture 'Ouse.

Unless anyone can think of a better idea this is therefore the venue of default.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the common is much bettah for me than the junction, transport-wise

mark s, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno if I'll be coming but SURELY you can do better than the Goose *shudders*. What about the Rose and Crown or the Prince of Wales?

Sarah, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Oh yes those are Clarm Common also)

Sarah, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Name the pub and I'll do my best to come along late-ish and ruin everyone's evening.

Dr. C, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will consult with Sarah tonight and post a pub.

Tom, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well you consult as much as you like, Tom, but I will be in the Goose on Clapham Common from about 7 pm onwards. Anyone else wanting to break bread with me is welcome to come along.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Which bit of Clapham Common is it on?

Dr. C, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave, it's just round the corner from the Clapham Picture House. If you come out of Clapham Common tube and use "The Pavement" exit, it's right in front of you.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's just by the station. I forgot to consult anyway.

Tom, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So you did. I cannot register my attendance anyway, sorry chaps!

Sarah, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

**and use "The Pavement" exit**

Do I have to wear a plaid shirt and pretend I'm Mark E Smith, then?

Dr. C, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

chaps, i cannot come along tonight i fear but have a top time and i'll see y'all later!

katie, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

To think it might have been in Putney, and now it might as well be in Greenwich :-) Ah well. See you chaps later.

Mark C, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so, its the goose then? when? and whos coming?

gareth, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i am

mark s, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be there from about 7:00.
